I really hope Jurassic World is great. I remember seeing JP about 5x in theatres as a kid. I wanted to be a paleontologist. I had all the toys. Decorated my room like a raptor pen haha. Dr. Grant is still a hero lol. The sequel was ok, and I liked the Mercedes ML (which weren’t for sale yet in the real world). The other movies have been lackluster or worse.

I would keep realistic expectations. I wouldn’t say “great,“ but definitely doesn’t have the baggage of the last two installments. I have also been a fan from day one, and I very much enjoyed it (and will see it again.)

Stitch is just gonna barely make it…big hit there.

Elio never found its “legs”

Interested to see what the Jurassic haul…which is being praised and panned - sometimes in the same articles - will mean for the two tent poles coming up?

without delving too much into the political arena with this one, pop culture has always been used as a vehicle for social change. I mean the whole counterculture movement of the 60s and 70s was lead by many pop culture figures. So I don't see this use of it really any different then in generations past.
It’s stunning to me that people don’t know these facts.

Unfortunately "stealth mode" is a fantasy, never happens for either side especially in the modern social media lead era. It'll just cause reactionary harm the other way, and embolden those that the current pop culture movement is trying to fight. Its a constant battle of sides that has gone on for as long as the world has been turning.

Business and life will survive this culture war, just like it has every other one before it.
Not true…many social movements have had to strategically take steps “back” to alter approach/messaging to move forward. It can work.

Is it gonna happen here? No. But Hollywood isn’t doing itself or anyone they claim to be advocating for any favors…more the opposite. It’s the context right now

Taking a step back doesn’t mean a complete retreat and go into “stealth mode” as you implied though. As battles are still waged and messages are still pushed out even if not as “in your face” as previous attempts.

But let’s not go too much further on this as it’s wading into a territory that we are to avoid.

Box Office is out for this past holiday weekend. This now makes it official; there is no good word of mouth happening for Elio, and it is fading fast on only its 3rd weekend. The overseas box office for Elio is even worse. It's a bomb, and along with Snow White is really dinging 2025 box office for Burbank. Thank God for Lilo & Stitch, or it would be brutal so far this year.

News coming in from the weekend now has the total take of Elio so far at $96 million ($55 million in the U.S., $41 million internationally). So it will cross the $100 million mark at least, but it's still lagging far behind pretty much every would-be Disney tentpole released since Haunted Mansion in August 2023, which wrapped up at $117.5 million total. Pretty grim.

Ooh, there's a fun one we hadn't thought of yet! Elio vs. Haunted Mansion. And yes, it's very grim.

...a movie like Blazing Saddles could never be made today without people screaming about too much politics in your satire

I'd love to see a movie like Blazing Saddles be made again, but Hollywood would never allow it.

And.... now I'm going to be humming/singing/kitchen performing The French Mistake for the next two days! :banghead:

Throw out your hands, stick out your tush, hands on your hips, give 'em a push!.... 🤣🤣🤣\

P.S. I'm parked over by the commissary.

A Minecraft Movie ended its 90 day domestic run at $423.95M

Lilo & Stitch sits at $408.67M through 45 days, is there enough left to pass Minecraft domestically?

It’s still averaging around $1M per day for the moment but we’ll see what the next few weeks brings

It’s possible…can they suck another $25 mil out of the late summer?

Either way…it’s a billion and will be the western box office champ of 2025 until avatar
