Oh good God, Iger. Somebody stop that man before he buys again!

Seriously, why does Iger even WANT Fox? Disney already owns Star Wars. True, Fox has some good films, but nothing that can be heavily merched (even Home Alone), and merch, not art, is what moves Iger. So what the actual heck??? Why does that fathead keep spending company money on deals like this when it could be invested in the parks at the very least?

Speaking of the greatest movie franchise in movie history (IMHO) TNT is running a SW marathon as I type this. Just the episodes that matter. Wednesday I'll be watching The Force Awakens...and trying not to ball my eyes out. :bawling:

And thinking, where do we go from here...

Cars Land and Star Wars Land are just two examples of how acquisitions have lead to major additions in the parks. There will be many more.

Take off your blinders.

Avatar, Planet of the Apes, Alien, X-Men, Fantastic Four, Deadpool, Die Hard, Transporter, Home Alone, Wimpy Kid, Percy Jackson, Maze Runner franchises now under the Disney umbrella. Blue Sky Studios also becomes a part of Disney, which includes the highly successful Ice Age film series.

Interesting choice of sources. I think I will wait for a bit more vetting of the info thanks.

It might be about the new streaming service. Disney is late to the game on this, so to challenges Netflix and Amazon they need as much content as they can get their hands on.

This is troubling how much control one studio will have over the entertainment history. If the way that Disney manhandled movie theatres for more revenue and screen time with The Last Jedi release is any indicator of future behavior, not much good will come from one company holding this much of a market share.

It's exciting to think about the fantastic Four and X-Men in the Marvel movies, but step back and look beyond the shiny veneer of re-released Star Wars and the endless succession of superhero flicks. company with this much power will start pushing around theatres more and that's not good for consumers.

I think it could cause other studios to step up their game and give audiences what they want. Competition is the answer. But first some consolidation is necessary due to past mismanagement in the industry. IMO.

Because as a company...if you don't evolve...then the company itself becomes an acquisition target. If Disney concentrated on just the parks without any M&A plans, they themselves would have been acquired long ago. I like going to Walt Disney World - owned by Disney. Don't know what going to "Apple's Magic Kingdom", or "Amazon's EPCOT" would be like. Nor do I care to find out.....Good move by Disney.

He wants that 30% stake in Hulu and that 39% stake in Sky Plc. And o course the speeding up of getting X-men back for Marvel Studios - but even if Fox were sold to Comcast they would get that back.

See AOL Time Warner. Worked out real well for all parties.

Funny you should mention that. Because that's exactly what Sony was considering doing in the 1980s...acquiring Disney.

This deal makes sense on so many levels. It’s such a no-brainer that any analyst (except the creators of The Simpson’s because they have) who hadn’t predicted this must truly be banging their heads! Just look at what Disney is getting...

Star Wars — the rest of the rights and ownership titles they currently do not have (namely, A New Hope ownership and distribution rights for original trilogies) — well, duh, makes perfect sense!

Avatar — I’ve often wondered why Disney would promote another studios’s IP at a Disney-owned theme park. It just didn’t make sense to me. Now, it will all make sense! With Star Wars, Avatar, Alien, X-Files, Planet of the Apes, and other sci-fi titles along with Marvel, Disney can make a sci-fi network or even a science fiction themed theme park (possibly outside the US). The possibilities are HUGE! Again, this makes so much sense and is such a no-brainer that it’s not even funny!

X-Men, Fantastic Four, Silver Surfer, etc.— See https://screenrant.com/marvel-movie-character-rights-explained-studios-sony-fox/5/

FX/FXX/Nat Geo — How many cable networks will Disney own after these are added?
