Okay, thanks!! At least this looks more positive than what we've heard the past few days ago. Hopefully, we'll hear the IFT approved the deal in the next few days or so.

we wont know if the IFT approves it FYI. The are not allowed to make the decision public. The only way well know if they approved is if the deal closes I guess following Brazil approval. Which is hopefully soon if CADE is wanting a meeting sooner. Curious don't you think this comes barely days after they met with Iger. hmmm. I think they want a meeting sooner than the 27th because they promised Iger they will approve it.

But what happens if they put conditions like divestment or behavioral remedies on cable sports, would they have to make it public?

Only Disney maybe Fox and IFT will know. The only way well find out if they have to divest anything is maybe through one of the market research trades like seeking alpha or bloomberg since they would have sources at Disney (even then it would only be speculation on their part). And if Disney suddenly decides to sell some sports channels in Mexico that would be an obvious giveaway.

I didn't get that from this statement by Villanova.... I think all she is saying is the Cade may not be able to get the information they have requested from Disney and Fox competitors by Februrary 27th. Because there is a legal requirement the Cade make a ruling by March 17th, she may request a special meeting ( I am guessing between February 27th and March 17th) to review the case. I think the Cade has what it needs from Fox and Disney..... It appears they have requested information from the other competing media companies in order to make a decision.

Back to a point I tried to make yesterday..... The Cade has to think about what will happen in the market if the do force Disney to Sell part of these assets. Would the buyer necessarily broadcast the Sports programming for free? Or do they have more leverage with Disney to get a remedy agreement to continue to broadcast the key sports over the air for some extended period of time (say 10 years). I bet this "free over the air" broadcasting is what Iger brought to the table, and the Cade is taking this time to shop it around and see if they force a sale, would the existing competition purchase the channels, and agree to broadcast for free...... It doesn't seem reasonable to me, if the Cade forces a sale, the buyer will not go the pay-per-view route they are so afraid of. My theory is, this outcome (the new buyer goes pay-per-view) is the most likely outcome.

The way I read it is they might simply want another meeting before the 27th. Whether that is to approve the deal or not because they met with Iger and promised approval asap who knows its speculation on my part but whatever the case its a positive development imo.

I wonder...

If the two year non-screen time after cancellation clause in the Netflix contracts are correct, then the earliest that the Netflix shows could be continued on Disney+ would be as follows:
Luke Cage (June 23rd 2020)
Iron Fist (September 8th 2020) (or Heroes for Hire, or Daughters of the Dragon)
Daredevil (October 20th 2020)

...to update this after today's news...

The Punisher (January 18th 2021)
Jessica Jones (XX/XX/2021)

Hopefully Netflix will add Jessica Jones as soon as possible so that the clock can be started on it being continued on another provider.

I would imagine that a deal elsewhere would probably not be announced until after Jessica Jones is aired - an announcement before then may make Netflix delay airing Season 3 just to spite the other provider - is there anything in the Netflix contract that would prevent Netflix holding onto Jessica Jones Season 3 until the year 2023 so that she couldn't be used on Disney+/Hulu until 2025, or even longer?

According to The Wrap, Craig Erwich, Hulu's senior vice president of originals said ""Marvel has a ton of titles we’d be interested in," when asked by TheWrap if Hulu would have interest in reviving one of those series. "It kind of just depends on when they’re ready, [and] who, most importantly, is going to be behind these things.”"

However, you would think it would be better to hold all of the Marvel live action content in one place on Disney+, rather than spread over 2 different services... (obviously Runaways is already on Hulu, and Cloak & Dagger is on Freeform already)

I agree. I think when the Disney-Fox deal is completed, FX might also be a possibility to bring these shows back. It's been about almost a week and we still haven't heard news of Brazil approving the deal yet. Anyone heard any updates?

Last thing I read was that CADE was requesting more information from various third parties in Brazil on what type of structural remedies they would be ok with if they approved the deal without sale asset. Along with CADE possibly wanting to call a meeting before the 27th.

Okay. Sounds good. As soon as they sort out what remedies they would approve the deal with, CADE will announce they met with Disney again before the 27th and then a announcement about Mexico approval will come afterwards.

Yep I really think the whole thing is going to come together quite quickly. Once Brazil approves. Its basically a straight run to the finish line.

How right you are! It's becoming more and more likely that the Disney-Fox deal will indeed be completed at the end of this month. With Brazil promising Iger they will approve it, we'll hear some news of them making the big approval in the next few days.

Been checking all the major trades all morning for any news out of Brazil re approval. Got nothing so far. I guess they didn't ask for another meeting. No news is good news right?

New here but been wanting to chime in on this topic.

I think the only item of note over the past couple of days is that, for the first time, we are less than 7 days from the expiration date of the debt exchange offers and consent solicitations. Up to now, Disney has extended this at least 7 days before the expiration data, with deal close expected shortly after the expiration date.

I don't know that there is any requirement on how long in advance Disney has to notify of extension, but they may be waiting to hear from CADE whether or not they will be voting on the Disney-Fox deal in the upcoming session on February 27th before they determine whether, and how long, to push out the debt exchange offer expiration date.

Interesting. The Pixar, Marvel and Lucasfilm deals took over about a few months before they become finalised. The Fox deal being completed just 7 days after/if Brazil approves the deal would be a home run right to the finish line like it's done in 30 minutes. Hopefully, this means it'll indeed be completed in early March.
