I've heard a lot about this park latley. I remember when it was suposed to be built in Va. about 3 hours from my house. I was very mad when it got cancelled. I heard it was back on the drawing board:D. I hope it goes in Orlando. Here are some pics, it will take a couple posts. Heres the logo for the park.

And last but not least here is a pic of Victory Field. This was going to celebrate WW1 and WW2 fighter pilots. There was going to be a flight sim here. Dosn't look like Condor Flats at Cal. Adv.

Are these pictures all from Mouseplanet? I never knew America was ever on the drawing board in the first place and always assumed it was just a rumor.

It was no rumor. The park was suppose to be built about 5-10 miles from my house. I was in junior high school when the plans were revealed and I remember the local news stations coming to our school and asking us what we thought about it. Everyone was excited, and most of us said that we would get our summer jobs there.

yup.. it was slated to have been open and running already.. then if I'm correct, the locals were scared that it would turn into another Orlando or Anaheim and quickly voted against it (idiots in my opinion, but hey.. to each his own)

Take a close look at all those pictures.

OK now look at pictures of California Adventure. You can see that the area and ride layouts are almost identical, except for the theming. The airplane area is now condor flats (that's what it's called I think), and the Indian River ride is Grizzly River Run. So it seems that Disney's America was never taken away, it was just redressed.

You are right, I read about that on Mouse Planet. Eisner wanted to put this park in Anahiem after Wescot was rejected. And then they thought of Cal Adv and just changed everything. Mostly everything in Cal Adv has backroots to Disney America.

Is there any posslbility that Disney's America can be placed in a diferent area in Virginia. I live in Virginia and a would really love a Disney park near my house instead of driving 15 hours to Disney World or taking a plane to Disneyland.

Disney America was a much better idea than California Adventure.. I wonder why they "readdressed" the plans. (but maybe I just think that cause I'm an American history geek  )

Not only that but the state of Virginia disapproved of the park because were it was planned to be built was historic land and they did not want a theme park built on it.

The Disney America would be a great idea , but it would have to be done very well . In these post 9/11 times people are coming back to the idea of loving america and embracing it for the great country it is. If disney did this now and kept everything factual and didnt change history for commercial purposes, and also gave it the disney magic , they would have a wonderful park on there hands . And there are plenty of places for a park like this not just Virginia. Pennsylvania , Ohio , the carolinas are all good spots for this. :D

I agree that Pennsylvania or Ohio would be a good spot. I Northern Ohio would be the best because it would only be 8 hours away.:king:

Not really "Redressed". Disney always re-utilizes unused material.
Take Discovery Bay-its concepts were unused until Discoveryland was built. Of course, It would have been cool have a Hyperion ride instead of a cafe, but hey, the movie really wasn't that good (Island at the Top of the World)

Theres a ton more concept art that wasn't used, including a painting of Ellis Island during a fireworks dispay over the Statue of Liberty, etc. It can be found in the Disney Imagineering book.

SUPPOSEDLY Test Track came out of an idea that originated with Disney's America (you would board Ford motor cars and zip through a factory). Of course, I'm only repeating someone elses material.Take that with a grain of salt, please.

Disney wanted to put it in VA. because of all the historical importance of the area. They needed to find a location where they would be near other landmarks of historic value. Florida isn't really known for its historic importance other than Ponce De Leon and the Fountain of Youth myth. I think they would rather put it inTexas or back in VA. before they'd ever ever ever put it in Orlando.

ON MOUSEPLANET, THEY RECENTLY SAW THAT THE SAME PLOT OF LAND WHERE THEY WERE GOING TO BUILD DISNEY'S AMERICA, A CHEAP WATER PARK AND A HOTEL HAVE BEEN BUILT.
