Disney After Hours Event

At first, I thought that this was another Disney money grab - just like the proposed resort fee (a blatant money grab) and the premier parking (which people wouldn't find necessary if the transportation worked well on a consistent basis). But now that I've seen the details, I have to say that I would seriously consider it. Mainly because it fits the way I prefer to travel.

First off, I am not a morning person. My perfect day at Disney would be sleeping in, having a leisurely breakfast/lunch at the hotel, some afternoon pool time before doing an early dinner and heading to the park for the evening. With the way this is structured and the 7 p.m. entry, I could do a few rides in the day time (Thunder Mountain, Jungle Cruise, maybe the 7 Dwarfs), do the evening parade and Wishes, and then go park commando once the crowds thin out.

Also, I have no patience for the crowds. I will spend a lot of planning time trying to ensure that I can do what I want without having to deal with a massive amount of people. So, if these events truly are capped to a reasonable amount of people, it is worth it to me. Last time I was at Disney (November 2015), I got a taste of what I think (and hope) these events will be. We were at the Magic Kingdom two late nights in a row - once it was EMH from 11 p.m. until 1 a.m. By 12:30, the park was EMPTY. My friend and I were in Adventureland and there were so few people, it was almost spooky. She went to ride Pirates (walk on) and while I waited (it was kind of chilly and I didn't want to chance getting wet), I was able to get a Dole Whip - no line, no waiting. My version of heaven! The next night we did the Christmas party and the same thing happened - we could have basically walked on to any ride that we wanted (we didn't try 7 Dwarfs). By the time we left, we had done everything that we wanted to do and then some with very little waiting.

If I wanted to go to the MK for one day on my next trip (I am an annual passholder at that other Orlando park so I will be spending the bulk of my time there), I would probably go for it. In my mind, it is like a party without the reason for the party (Halloween or Christmas). BUT, and this is a big but, I would be super upset if this takes away from the EMH for hotel guests or shortens regularly operating hours - and I can see why people are worried that that is what is going to happen, considering the current state of things.

Love a little Disney every day!! ;)
Anyone have any idea if the Extra Magic Hours are still scheduled for the nights this takes place?

All EMH are still scheduled as usual and none were scheduled at MK these nights offered anyway. MK has the evening EMH on Wednesdays on the schedule. :)

So they are effectively adding more late hour operations to the MK, limiting the amount of time available to refresh and maintain the park and its attractions. ;):greedy:

It's 3 hours extra once a week to take away from that! Doubt that park will suffer. lol

It's been a few years since the MK has had two evening EMHs in a week, by going off of my past notes, 2011 and 2012 both offered them on Friday and Sunday. Since then, they dropped the second, and reduced the hours from 3 to 2. You can occasionally get lucky (or unlucky if you're working) and have them extend hours on the day.

Count me out. Would hope few people support this and they would if you didn't get in as early as seven. 6hrs total and 3 with light crowds and fireworks I can see the appeal. This is the beginning of another on site "perk" going away.

We thought this too but did buy into DVC, After our last wdw visit last month we have said that we are skipping the parks for a long time, the nickel and diming has gone to our heads, the cast cuts, everything they are doing isn't sitting well with my family, we all talk about the breaking point with what Disney is doing and that was it. Our DVC points will now be dedicated to the cruise line where you can still
get the classic Disney service, not be upcharged for events, food, etc that they are doing on land. It honestly is more fun to Disney cruise
for us now than to step into the parks.

There wont be any rare characters - The sweatshops are considered attractions, and cost considerably more to operate than throwing out a couple randoms.

WDW is like a bad boyfriend. They keep doing the most ridiculous things to upset you and your family tells you to move on but you will always love them. :hilarious:
Disney truly is a huge part of my life and silly things like this make me upset but I will always go back. That's what they're banking on.
