Disney After Hours Event

My first reaction to this was, no way! Are they crazy?

Then my husband and I are considering staying offsite for the first time and if we wanted to only ride some of the rides, that would be a One Day only way to do it.

But that sounds okay, and realistic. We go to the parks for far more than riding rides over and over again. We like all the stores and restaurants open, the ambience, being able to go on the attractions we want and take the amount of time we want.
That, I think, is the difference in who will buy into this, and who won't.

If you have one day and love to ride the rides only, then this is the ticket for you. However, if you are like us, and want the whole Disney experience at your own pace, then we will opt out.

Just my 2 cents worth, since we are at 45 pages now and I've been pondering over this for a while!

i will say its really cool to see the place empty however if they put more effort into park growth to allow a less crowded feel 24/7 that would ya know...be nice.

bear with me but what if they brought back E nights to a degree charge 50 a head but require tickets so its purely an add on. sell and market it hard in the parks each day, remove the free concessions keep the ride list and cap it at say 5,000 not exactly dead but hey...i bet they could make alot more money by playing with the cost....150 is just absurd....50 per.....sell like hot cakes i bet.

Sort of like a weekly (or thereabouts) 'party' night along the lines of MNSSHP, but without the special music, candy, dances, shows, etc? That might work out pretty well.

Anyone else slightly creeped out by how empty the park is (from the pictures of the event)? I'm all for low crowds, but there is is something that strikes me as not quite right about the park being so empty!

This is the kind of stuff Disney could have been offering as a loyalty program instead of unlimited APs... driving people to spend spend spend all the time to get their 'status' with the Mouse. Tell people they can have access to events like this if they are 'gold status' and watch the spending increase.

Haven't had ANY time to follow this of late, but I have confirms from two independent sources who I trust that WDW sold no more than 300 tickets tops for the event. And the original capacity of the event was 8,000, although it's clear that Disney didn't want to invite that many DVCers for free and there are only so many lifestylers who were free for the night.

I absolutely don't see this event continuing. I'd be shocked if Disney doesn't cancel some of the future already announced dates as well. Even if they sold five times as many tickets they'd have a hard time coming close to breaking even operating all those attractions and staffing the place. And they didn't. And they won't.

It's amazing how most of us here knew this was a ridiculous idea and would be a total flop but apparently Disney upper mgmt didn't think so.

Then again maybe it's par for the course these days

You've got the sources, but from the outside looking in, I wouldn't be surprised to see these events continue with a larger guest cap, reduced offerings, and potentially modified pricing.

I think offering DVC and AP discounts might come before the plug is pulled.

The weird thing about this even is that we're all discussing what it's worth to get exclusive ride time on old attractions.

Think about that for a moment. We've each ridden these attractions dozens or hundreds of times. There's nothing new. There is no attraction that is so awesome that it's nearly impossible to get on. It's not hard to get a FP+ for one of these attractions to avoid the line.

There's no other entertainment like with MNSSHP or MVMCP. You're really paying to ride re-runs.

Can't like this enough. It's exactly true! It would be one thing if there was an additional entertainment component to this - rare character meet and greet, mini-parade, castle projection/stage show, even a dance zone (can't believe I just expressed a desire for a DJ party!). But there's nothing like that. From what I could tell, they didn't even use event lighting like projection gobos or colored lights to liven up some of the walkway areas.

I'd rather see the attraction line up reduced in half with some kind of unique entertainment offering rather than having things like the Speedway, Stitch, Aladdin carpets, Barnstormer, Philarmagic, Country Bears, etc. open.

Again, there is potential for this kind of event to be successful, but Disney has to put some effort into it. Can't just phone it in and expect people to pay ~1.5x park admission for the same old stuff.
