Disney After Hours Event

The answer to this question may be some where in the 27 pages but I have not and probably won't read all 27 pages.

Is this going to replace EMH completely? Or is this a trial run to see if people are really going to pay for this and then make a decision?

I love WDW as much as anyone but I am not going to pay an extra $450 for my family to have 3 hours of park time.
Disney has said that EMH will continue. Of course, things can always change.

Hello, long time lurker - first time poster.

For my upcoming trip my main MK day will be on the 21st and i've noticed they've added an 11pm MSEP. Do you think day guests will be able to linger around main street to watch this or be rushed out for the event? I was hoping to be able to leave in a leisurely pace after park close on this day but I wonder if the event will put a stop to that.

Welcome!

That's a really good question.

I think we will have to wait and see how it plays out and exactly what the park exit strategy will be. If it is anything like Halloween and Christmas party nights, it will be a quick exit at 11. But with the parade taking place at 11pm, I can't really see how that can be done.

And wont that in essence lower the "value" of this event?

It looks like lose-lose is the plan.

They cant boot out (hopefully!) regular tickets right at close as there are parades scheduled right at 10 and/or 11. So the alternative is regulars can linger in shops and restaurants but CMs will card everyone attempting to go on rides, only letting eventers pass.

Maybe I'm being overly pessimistic, but that just seems like conflict waiting to happen and no one being happy. Regulars being barred from rides while they see others boarding (and CMs having to politely explain why constantly), Eventers arriving to their expensive empty-park experience to find things still crowded.

I'll be there on the 28th and I'm not exactly looking forward to seeing the results.

Wow, this got to 27 pages really fast. I'm not sure if this has been addressed, but let's say we already have 5 length of stay park hopper tickets and want to take advantage of these extra late night hours. How would I be charged since the tickets we already have allow us in the park from 7:00 PM until closing anyway? I can't see paying another $150 each for just 3 hours. I'm hoping there is some type of adjustment being considered.

I think it is all extra. You'd have to pay the extra. Considering that there is very little value added, not sure who will pay.

It could be a trend. It wasn't that way when I was there in August. We still had a hard time getting a table at a few of the places you mentioned, but really only the Boat House was newly open at Disney Springs so it may be that crowds are flocking there now that more is opening up. We did eat at Raglan Road and it was quite packed. I really like what they are doing with Disney Springs and with 3rd party vendors mostly in charge the quality can and should remain high. Based on news dropped in Spirit's other thread they are going to be cutting back even more on quality and portions at Disney run restaurants.
Disney has already cut back on portions and quality. But wait. There's more. They can do it again. But that will not stop the prices going up.

You have to pay for those hours. $150. From what I understand it's like a party ticket

Technically the event is only 3 hours, they are just letting those ticketholders check in early (like the party). From the Parks blog:

“Disney After Hours” is a three-hour event that will take place once the park closes on the following dates:
  • April 14, 21 and 28
  • May 5, 8, 12 and 19
A separate event ticket is required for “Disney After Hours.” Guests can check in starting at 7 p.m. each night, with the event hours from 11 p.m. – 2 a.m. Pricing is $149 plus tax for both adults and children (ages 3-9).

I read the Parks blog. Once you're in the park at 7 PM you can eat, ride and shop for the next 4 hours along with everyone else, then you get the 3 hours of event time. If you do not already have a prepaid ticket of any kind, this may not actually be a bad deal. (7 PM - 2 AM). If however, you've already paid for a length of stay park hopper and additional $150 per person would be an insane expense.

Agreed - I was just noting that since they are billing it as a 3 hour event I wouldn't see them adjusting the cost if you have a multi-day ticket since the event technically starts after the park closes to regular guests for the day.

Very interesting - I am late to the party, I only found out about this after seeing the "reactive response" thread. We'll be very disappointed if EMH goes away, as we always made good use of that time at MK. However, they haven't said anything about taking away EMH yet, although one would question their intentions after including it in the "resort fee" idea that was being surveyed -- unless I am mistaken. However, after seeing a couple of posts about the benefits of losing EMH altogether, I'm wondering if there is a percentage of people that wouldn't mind seeing it go. IF it meant better upkeep of rides, longer overall park hours for everyone, and cleaner parks, then I would be okay with it. IF this is just another way to get money out of people with no intention of making better use of the empty park hours, then that's an issue.

No clue how this will actually work. My guess is they will allow regular guests to stay on Main Street and in the hub for the parade but they will have CMs at all access points from the hub checking for wrist bands. They will also check at the rides. This way the crowd will already be towards the exit. The $150 party people will have exclusive use of the rides starting at 11pm. That's my guess, but who knows how it will actually go down. It also brings up an interesting point about parades. With the Christmas and Halloween parties you get an exclusive parade included in the price. This event doesn't even include that for almost twice the money:confused::confused::confused: Ouch.

So, its either $130 for 9am -10/11pm (13-14hrs) or $150 for 7pm-1/2am (6-7hrs) ? hmmm.....

But as I have stated before, there are many people visiting the Orlando area that can only visit one of the Disney Parks at night. This would include the thousands of convention goes that visit Orlando every week. For someone that wants to visit the Magic Kingdom, has only one night and wants reduced crowds; this might be there ticket. It not something I would do because I have an annual pass and visit the park often.
