Disney After Hours BOO BASH

I'm complaining because I really wanted to do this. If the pricing were on par with a DAH Villains and included a DVC/AP Discount, I'd be going to multiple ones of these. But for whatever reason they decided that if you want to go in October, well then screw you.
Villains After Hours was $155 in February 2020. $125 DVC/AP. This is $119 DVC/AP at the start and $159 during the (obviously) popular October dates. They don’t need to discount in October and never discounted MNSSHP in October. Increasing the price by $4 or $14 isn’t unreasonable after 18 months. The price will actually be lower in August and September. And there was no trick or treating at VAH.

The prices are high, but also weren't firework viewing party prices pushing $90 pre-pandemic? That was a few treats for 30 minutes of cookies and a special corral for a fireworks show in a park one had already paid to attend and could otherwise watch without additional cost.

I think we paid $129 but that was on Christmas day.

I'm not comparing it to the Halloween Party, in fact, I keep telling others in this thread to stop comparing it to the Halloween Party.

I'm comparing it to other DAH events, especially the Villains After Hours that happened in the Winter over a year ago.
How can one not compare this to MNSSHP? This is the replacement for MNSSHP.

It's clearly different in significant ways, but comparing the two, and making a decision to buy or not based on that comparison, is entirely reasonable.

I will say entirely separately, paying those prices in October for a 50th Anniversary celebration of the park makes sense. Being inside the Magic Kingdom with low crowds during the first few weeks of its 50th birthday could be really special. But this is, of course, if someone cares for sentimental justification.

The events will sell out due to demand and that's great for Disney!

I’m going for this reason. We will be there 1 week into the 50th. A guaranteed night of low crowds is an easy sell.

Id love to see this be a poor seller, telling disney that they are charging too much for this little and maybe getting us some market correction. I am pretty shocked at the price this year.

But we all know it will probably sell great and embolden disney even more when fireworks and stuff we should expect returns. SIGH

There's zero chance this will sell poorly.

They cut it back to 2 nights per week, knowing that it won’t sell as well as MNSSHP.

They will show Not So Spooky and Wonderful Christmastime again. Might the party format shift in 2023? Sure.

If they want to show Wonderful Christmastime to day guests throughout November and December and then have rides and a parade at an event with far fewer people, I won’t complain.

Just to clarify, so this year Not So Spooky and Wonderful Christmastime will not be shown and just HEA for all guests?

For years WDW has had two separate events: Holiday Party Nights, and After Hours Events (also Early Morning Hours events).

They are not the same.

WDW decided not to do Holiday Party Nights this year (at least, not for Halloween... we've yet to know for sure about Christmas).

And so, instead, they're doing one of their other types of events. A type of event that has been happening for years.

In one sense, yes, one type of event replaces the other type of event.

In another sense, no... absolutely not... The After Hours event is not some modified version of the Holiday Party night. It's its own thing.

As its own thing, it can't be compared to the other type of event. That is the very literal point of the metaphor of comparing apples to oranges.

Compare the offerings and prices of the Boo DAH to other DAHs, especially the Villains After Hours. That's fine.

Compare the offering and prices to the Holiday Party Night? Apples and oranges.

It is not a watered down event. It is not the Holiday Party Night. It is an After Hours event. Most nights' prices are in line with the Villains After Hours that WDW had a year and a half ago.

really?

that doesn’t mean any of that labeled crap was ever a good idea. But that’s off the table - I suppose

So, we complained at an event that closed the parks at 6 pm 4 nights per week. Now we complain at an event that is 2 nights a week and maintains normal hours with fireworks for all.

Sounds like we just want to complain.

If you don’t find appeal in buying extra time in the park, don’t do it. At least you won’t be forced out at 6 pm.
The problem is we shouldn’t have to “buy” things we used to enjoy for free (park hours, better seating at shows with a more expensive dining package, resort parking, soon to be fastpasses, etc etc). It’s a trend and it’s not a good one and how it looks to guests.

I know this Halloween party or whatever they call it is going to have some extra things, but when compared to the Halloween party of old it is more expensive, less time to enjoy it, less special offerings, but now with ice cream and soda. For a family of say 4 this is major expense on top of their likely already park tickets for that day.

October's prices jumped pretty high. I've got a trip booked for early December so I'll be interested to see how the Christmas version pricing goes. I don't know if I'm willing to drop $160-$170 per ticket - especially if December doesn't have any DVC or AP discounts. I'm hoping that the Christmas DAH tickets don't go on sale until after the Boo Bash events have already started so that I can get a feel for how crowded these events will be and if they're worth the elevated price tag during the month of the holiday since I assume December will cost more than November.

The Christmas event will go on sale in July, last I heard.
