Well good for you. I just decided I'd share my opinion on it though b/c it made me want to vomit.

It seems Universal has been increasingly annoying in these past few years with their "If I have to hug another princess I'll puke" commercials, and their new night show with the globes similar to Illuminations'.
It's one thing to hate the rival park but it's a whole 'nother one to hate the movies a studio puts out just because you hate the park. Look at the crap WDP/TP has put out over the past few years (Stick It, The Wild, The gy Dog, Eight Below, Annapolis, Chicken Little, Flightplan, Valiant, Herbie: Fully Loaded)....that's not going to make me hate Disney because I hated their movies.

Why judge this film from its trailer, anyway? It might actually be something good. I HATED the Batman Begins trailers, but when I saw the film I absolutely loved it.

Geez. Read first. Understand second. Post third. Nowhere in the original post does it say anything about hating it BECAUSE Universal made it. You may want to read it twice next time......or not....whatever......your choice. ;)
"Disgusted by Brer Rabbit Cartoon from Universal!!!"

There's also the fact that it was posted in WDW General Discussion and the OP specifically stated her annoyance with Universal's theme park commercials and their so-called 'rip-off' of Illuminations.

Hmm... i sense that someone has a chip on their shoulder. Regardless... the reason you judge based off a trailer is because that's the point of a trailer. It is an ad. I can look at an ad for something else... like a car and then state "I hate those Toyota Camrys" based off of what I see from the commercial.

The illuminations rip off was mentioned later.

Just chill out man. It's going to be okay.

Ummm.....what do you think this means?

Disgusted by Brer Rabbit cartoon by Universal

Because it was a cartoon about Brer Rabbit not made by Disney....seems to say that they don't like it already just because Universal made it.

Reading is such a lost art....perhaps you'd understand it if there had been pictures to explain it all.

I'm not even a fan of the Universal parks....but to be digusted by a cartoon just because of who made or who didn't is childish.

univeral 360 may be a rip off but it's not an exact copy. they are spheres where the projections are projected form teh inside. the illumination globe is hundres of tiny screens put together to make one image. and it opens up and blows fire.

the idea for effects is not uncommon to copy what works. The new Seaworld night show Mystify, uses hydroponic screens just like Fantasmic.

and back on topic. I really don't have a problem with univeral putting out their version of these characters. At least they got the guts to release the story. Disney won't for some reason. how apropriate would it be for them to sell the dvds in the gift shop there.

All I see when these commercials air is good old fashioned competition. I am not a Universal apologist, and while I primarily go to WDW, I have gone to UO (only 3 times in comparison to at least 50 WDW trips though). I will weigh in on the new nighttime show at Universal when we go on our trip next week, however... when I saw a piece about it in our local paper, I was intrigued. I saw video of it on YouTube and it looked quite lame, but then again, you miss a lot of detail looking at Internet video.

Full report in two weeks.

Ladies, Gentlemen, please, sheath your swords. Universal, 20th Century, Warner Brothers, Disney and all of the rest have made some excellent movies. They have all also made some movies that should not have even been released on DVD. Universal & Six Flags both have some excellent rides and attractions. I think, however, that we can agree, and the attendance numbers would back us up, the WDW is the overall best family destination.

As far as cartoons, any company that has the right will market and sell anything they can sell. I have seen Peter Pan cartoons a company you would not even know. They are trying to make a buck, and some parents don't care as much for the quality of the music and animation if they get a similar story for $5.00 instead of the copy, heading to the Disney Vault soon, for $20.00.

Thats sad...
You really dont watch NBC because it is Universal?

That is taking things a bit far ..dont you think?..

Im also sure that Universal has had movies out that have outdone Disney and vice versa..it really all depends.

Im sure Walt would not be angry with you if you saw a Universal movie or watched NBC..I think it is a bit extreme..

Just my opinion though...

Oh..and I LOVE Walt Disney World and have only been to Universal once...
so I am not a Huge Universal advocate..I just dont judge things based on the company that made it.

several points...
1. it seemed definitely clear that the OP was expressing her dislike for the movie because it was made by universal, and it seemed like nemorocks was simply saying its not necessary to feel that way simply because its Universal but should rather be considered crap by the actual movie itself. both are entitled to their opinions
2. i am a huge movie fan, i usually go see every big summer blockbuster, regardless of who made it, because a movie should be good on its own account and not because of who made it.
3. there is no need for yet another debate over the univeral night show being a rip-off of illuminations.... please? competition is a good thing.
4. not watching NBC? really? that seems extreme. did you know shows like NBC's Scrubs (one of my favorite shows) is actually made by Touchstone, which is owned by disney? if you watch the dvds at the end of every episode they even show the buena vista distribution simple with the castle.

If you're going to criticize the commercial...quote it right...

"If I have to hug another princess, I'm going to hurl."

I am a huge fan of Disney and all things Disney however, I will be the first to say that the Spiderman ride at IOA is on the greatest rides I have ever been on.

I haven't seen the Universal commercial but what do you care? If it's for a movie, don't go see it. The Princess line is jealousy and that's all. All's fair in love and war. If given the chance, Disney would probably do the same thing :)

Posts like this just make me shake my head. If a preview for a cartoon can almost make you vomit, you may want to visit your doctor and get some medication for that.

Secondly, I'm so sick of everyone claiming that Universal is copying Illuminations. If you've seen both shows you'd see that they are in no way similar except that both have a big ball in the center.

Illuminations has one big ball that uses LED screens to accentuate the fireworks and the music. Universal has several big balls which they use to play movie clips on, in their case the fireworks help accentuate the movie clips. Only someone with an extreme hatred for Universal or who has just been listening too hard to those on here who do would think they're copying each other. There's only so many ways to display video in a nighttime show. They could have used a water screen, but that would be copying Fantasmic, or they could have lowered video screens over the lake but that would have just been lame.

Release Song of the South ?

I am disgusted by it because the NAACP boycotts Disney and claims that Walter E Disney was a racist. The opening scene of Song of the South, which shows African Americans working in a field. It does not give a year.

So Unverisal is using African American actors in this new adapation of the Brer Rabbit Stories, what's the difference?

Well, the characters SHOULD be voiced by black actors actually. The Bre'r Rabbit stories are part of African American folk culture, so, while the characters' species may be rabbits or bears or foxes or whatever, you could say that they really are "black" characters, and i think that the voice actors should reflect that.
Bre'r Rabbit was voiced by an African American VA in Disney's version, which i'm sure was a rather bold move at the time. Many studios would have cast a white VA doing a stereotypical "southern black" accent. It's sad that facts like this, that help bolster the case against Walt being a rascist, are overlooked in the name of sensationalism and scandal.

Well, jeez, if Disney is going to keep Song of the South under lock and key (in the States anyway), why shouldn't another studio take these stories in the public domain and try to make something out of them?
