It was. I miss how it looked before...especially during F&GF.

I didn't read all of the pages, but I was not fond of the 'tombstones" myself. Felt very weird seeing them.

It might feel weird, yes, but personally I enjoy being reminded of my own mortality every time I pass through the gate of Future World. Nothing like your imminent doom to put you in that visionary spirit...

I sorta kinda like Leave a Legacy.

It looks nice and dramatic at night with the lighting. While I'll agree that the prior entrance area was MUCH better...LaL isn't too bad. Also, It has been the source of several very touching moments. For one, check the Cast Member Appreciation board. Another happened while I was in line to have mine done a few weeks ago (yes, I had a tile made). While I was waiting for my picture to be taken, a woman walked up to the counter, practically in tears. She was trying to find a tile of her and her son. Her son had recently passed away. She and the rest of her family were crying once they had found their tile, but were very happy to have this at the same time. The cast member who had located the tile for them had a large full-color source picture from the tile printed up for them. It was really touching to see.

Dont know if it true or not but a few years ago I heard that one of the main reason for this was actually to protect the park entrance from possilbe bombs

Actually, with the Tombstones at that angle, and with enough speed, I think we might just have solved the Wand problem. Anyone got a Pinto they wouldn't mind losing?

Actually, while not the LaL tombstones, they *did* install barriers outside all the parks in the months after 9/11 to protect against vehicles driving into the parks... That's why you see all those heavy posts circling the fronts of each park.

Not to mention those big ol' raising pavement wedge thingies backstage, just like you see at the Pentagon.

Not being funny or anything but my family and i went on our first trip abroad and our first trip to Disney in 2000. We did the leave a legacy and we saw the wand over SSE and i have to say they both hold a lot of precious memories, so although i may be the only one, i am sad to see it go and, i like the wand.

Disney isnt just for those who were there before things changed, when new things are introduced they mean something to someone. You may have been there a hundered times but for someone it is their first trip and seeing the wand and leaving a legacy will be special to them, just like what is special to you is based on how you remember it.

What i am saying is, sometimes people on this forum seem to have lost some of the magic. Its almost as if you know it all inside out and therefore you are very judgemental of every move Disney makes. This will only be my second trip in 7 years, and i will be happy to see anything that Disney have built inbetween. Sometimes you guys are the most exciting people to talk to, but sometimes you spoil it a little by being so extreme about it,

Just my opinion, i say lighten up and enjoy every moment.

I'd dare somebody to flame this post, but I know it will happen anyways.

It's okay Disneyworld07. I like the wand. But some people on this site would rather see the Snow White Premire Mickey in the parks than the one we have today. To each their own er something.

It is the single worst attraction on Disney property, and the only one - okay, two including that Narnia thingy - I refuse to do more than once.

It's not the best show on property but its far from the worst. Have you not seen "Sounds Dangerous", "Stitches Great Escape", or "Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor"? Those are by far a worse attraction than LMA is.

Ah, it's that old argument again. Accuse those who are against some change that has/will happen at WDW as being opposed to any change, to wanting the park to remain forever in amber, etc. I'm not saying that people like that don't exist here, but they are a minority. Most people, and I mean most people who are anti-wand, or anit some change or some set of changes at WDW, don't seem to be anti-change for the sake of it. I for one think the wand is awful, but there have been lots of changes at WDW since I first went as a child that I've thought were great. The Buck-Rogers-esque redo of Tomorrowland, for example, removed the antiseptic white Tomorrowland of my memories, but I thought it was a vast and needed improvement. Getting back to Epcot, the old Horizons was my favorite attraction ever, and yet I offered no complaints when it was demolished because I knew that no one was riding it anymore. Unfortunately, I don't care for Mission Space, so it's definitely a net reduction in fun for me, but at the time I had no idea Space would turn out so lame.

Summing up, I don't dislike the wand because it's different than what I remembered from before. I dislike it because A) it looks cheap B) it doesn't match the style of the geosphere C) Mickey's wand has nothing to do with Epcot. Actually to amend that last one, Mickey's wand has nothing to do with anything. I mean, he didn't have a wand in Fantasia, even.

Ah, I was like you once...so bright-eyed...so bushy-tailed...:animwink:

But ya know, most of us are still like that. I used to be shocked at how seriously some people took WDW--but I realized (as I became that serious myself ) that it doesn't really ruin the magic. You still walk through the gates of a Disney park and turn into a little kid again.

Some of us might be "extreme" about things like the Wand and Leave a Legacy, but do understand that it's not just for the sake of finding something to whine about. We all understand that for tens of millions of people, the Wand and LaL have become some of their fondest memories of Epcot. We're not crying "tear 'em down" because we want to take that away from you. It just all comes down to our opinions and, yes, our memories of how Epcot used to make us feel--many of us who remember the way the park was long for the open green space again...we long to begin our fascinating journey into Epcot with something that's actually fascinating, not just the color brown...we long to gaze up at Spaceship Earth and see a sleek and daring and magical vision of things to come, not a Mikey Mouse billboard whose "magic" feels generic and manufactured. It's precisely because we care about keeping the magic that we debate WDW until we're blue in the face...it doesn't make our opinions more valid than yours, but at least know where we're coming from. We're not all that different from you. :D

Honestly, I can't judge Leave a Legacy too harshly. I completely understand the emotional connection to the faces...I always thought it was kind of a sweet idea, and one that, I have to admit, did have some connection to the themes of the Millennium Celebration. Most of us WDW freaks, you will find, want the faces--whether on the stones or not--to be preserved somewhere. It's not just a matter of being fair to the people who paid for their tiles, but I think it's a matter of principle. Their faces should remain in the parks for their children to see. But as they were executed, the stones...the tombstones...are a rather dreary introduction to the park. There is nothing but brown, brown, brown welcoming us to a park that should be daring us to use our imaginations and envision a bright new world. And (funny I should be saying this given that EPCOT Center was built on such a monumental scale to begin with)...they're just intimidating. It's one thing to have Spaceship Earth looming above you--that's awe-inspiring. But walking among giant hunks of brown granite feels almost post-apocalyptic...it is not the harmonious future we were led to believe in when EPCOT Center was built. It seems to be one of those ideas that looks great in a concept drawing, but the reality is decidedly colder and less inviting. So keep the faces, yes...but that's why many of us want to see the tombstones go. It's not pure nostalgia and pining for the way things were...we feel that way because EPCOT Center, entrance and all, was designed with real meaning, thought, and imagination behind it. We don't want a museum of EPCOT Center. We just want some of that to return.

And as for the wand...well that was just wrong. Though I will say, the wand was much cooler when you saw it in 2000 than it is just saying "Epcot".

Some of us would be happy if they hired someone to carve out the tops of the slabs and stuck little box planters in them and used some sort of greenery that would cascade down the front and sides a little.

If it was that shape in plants/greenery, that'd be awesome.

I haven't seen Laugh Floor yet, so I won't comment on it, but I happen to think Sounds Dangerous and Stitch's Great Escape are two very enjoyable attractions. I know I'm a minority in this, but I really think people are too harsh on those attractions. So, I still stand behind my original statement - LMA and Narnia are the worst.
