Die Leagacy! Die!

They don't look like tombstones.

I think they blend perfectly with the futuristic theming.

Besides, if they did move them, then there would just be a lot of empty space. Then everyone would complain about that.

Not to be disrespectful of those who had their photo taken, but Leave A Legacy was nothing more than a revenue-generating gimmick that catered to people vanities. If Disney really wanted to do something creative, they would have given guests the opportunity to leave something much more significant -- perhaps a 1 minute time capsule video of what their hopes for the new millennium would be. It would have tied in beautifully with the message of Spaceship Earth that Communication is one of the greatest tools we have to not only bridge different cultures, but time itself. One could leave a message for the future.

My hope is that the monoliths themselves are soon removed to a location where they fit-in more appropriately -- perhaps a Millenium Garden somewhere -- or better yet: recycle the granite cladding on the monoliths, cut up the metal panels, and give the photo-squares to those who are invited back to participate in a project such as the one I mentioned above.

As for the plaza, it needs to be restored to something grander than what it was before. The flower beds were nice, but I'd love to see some water features that would lend some natural kinetic energy to the space. And a more impressive version of the acrylic EPCOT sculpture would once again symbolize the optimistic ideals of the park.

It was the replacement to the 'Walk Around the World' bricks. You paid a fee (Started at $75 I believe and went down to $25 eventually) to have a picture taken of you and then etched into stainless steel and placed on monoliths at the park entrance.

It couldn't have been $75 too long. In August of 2000 we paid $25 or so.

When this is gone, what's left to fuss about?

1. Wand
2. Stitch
3. Imagination Institute
4. Dinoland
5. DDP using up ADRs
6. Transportation CMs spreading rumours.

Did I miss anything?

P.S. This was by far the one that needed the most attention.

Not entirely incorrect. We did it as part of our anniversary trip. Its nice to have a momento in the park that says we spent our anniversary here. Vain or not, its something we share with family and friends and now our daughter.

Sigh...I guess I'm the only person who doesn't mind Leave a Legacy...even though I can never find my photo on there.
Wonder where they'll put them until the agreements run out? And won't the guests who bought a spot recently be annoyed?

Did I miss something somewhere? Are they moving these things or is it still unknown?

Where could it be moved.

Outside the park gates

To Pop Century - Maybe making the Legendary years being 2000-2050 instead and keep selling

DTD - Don't know where??? Maybe a new wall w/the pix only and not the statues

Lets add Die LMA Die what a waste of area and resources , it was great for the celebration but give it back and lets get something more that relates to the studios.

The return of visitors for this attraction is limited saw it twice wont go back again thought I missed something so went back the second time guess what I didn't..

That sounds very nice and perhaps would have been perfectly fine if the monoliths didn't clutter the sight lines of the entry plaza the way they currently do. I'm just thinking that if Disney went one step further, and thought about the project a bit more creatively, then you could have had the opportunity to leave something much more significant for your family and friends than your photo etched on a metal plate.

Wouldn't it be fun to watch a short video message you made on that anniversary trip? It would have more accurately captured your thoughts and emotions at the time, your aspirations and frailties, and if you were in the mood, a sample of wisdom or insight for the future.

As of September 30, 1999, when the LaL sales started, it costed $35 for one image per tile, $38 for two images per tile, plus tax. So I don't think that the price ever increased past that.

I also found this:

"The Leave a Legacy plaza was designed by veteran Imagineer John Hench, along with a team of Walt Disney Imagineering interns. Hench started as an artist with The Walt Disney Company in 1939, and went on to help design and build Disneyland. He was the original art director for Epcot, and chief designer of Spaceship Earth."

For a man that brought us so many wonderful things, why did John Hench screw up so bad on this one? How much say did he really have in the creation of LaL?

people like this?? Im not too fond of it. but then it could be worse....
You see, the thing that bugs me the most about LaL is that the color of the stainless steel pictures doesn't match the color of the granite structures. Also, the stainless steel plates are in rectangles so they don't curve up like the shape of the granite does.
