I don't think that we are saying we are offended. But don't you think if a person took the time to fly/drive someplace as big as WDW, stay for for a week or so, see all the park maps and maybe resort TV, not to mention the money they will be spending, they would know the names of the parks, at least, or that the MK is not Disney World?

Why? Just because someone is obsessed with planning, someone may be equally unobsessed and just go with the flow. Why do they deserve criticism? Someone could say the same the other way. Why does someone obsess so much and feel they need to be infinitely prepared for something, why can't they just let things happen?

So, no, I don't think someone who spends a week there spending hundreds or thousands of dollars is required to know the park names, or the specifics of each ride, or other details that are commong knowledge on this board.

Everyone has different priorities.

And come to think of it, my parents took us there several times growing up. We stayed onsite, offsite, just day trips, all different iterations. We were there when there was only one park, when there were two parks, and when there were three parks (they haven't been since Animal Kingdom was built), and yet they still call the Magic Kingdom Disneyworld, my mom called Test Trak fast track, they still confused Universal with MGM (they've been to both), they do all the common things "wrong". BUT SO WHAT!?!?!?!?

So they have done just what you said, gone there for a week or so and spent lots of money, and still call the Magic Kingdom Disney. They know what they mean, I know what they mean, why would anyone else care?

It is interesting to me what is a 'hot topic' on various discussion boards. I read cruise discussion boards alot, and the hot topics on those are things like wearing jeans in the dining room, saving deck chairs at the pool, not tipping. All of which effect others in some way, but no one ever complains about someone not knowing a name of a ship or confusing a port of call or misunderstanding terminology...why is it such an issue when it comes to Disney?

So we established that not everybody is as Disney-educated as we are. And that's totally fine.

But the thing that really annoys me is when I overhear people giving other people Disney-advice like they know it all, when in fact they're all wrong!

I work as a waitress, and one afternoon I kept breezing past this table (not my table) where a woman was giving advice to her friend about Disney like she was an expert! I was always too busy to stop over and say anything, but maybe that was a good thing. I wouldn't have wanted to start any trouble. But she sat there, "yak yak yak...i'll help you plan your trip!" and every time I walked by, I would cringe at hearing things like, "oh, universal and mgm are like the same thing...blah blah blah" and "just skip epcot, it's all educational...just go to disneyLand!"

arghhhhh

Generally the only things I encounter are "Is it the Disney World in Florida or California?", calling Magic Kingdom "Disney World" and a surprise that Epcot, The Studios and Animal Kingdom even exist, they thought it was just the castle.

No biggies that will stop the world turning, plus I'm always happy to educate :D

But the big deal that I have is the big deal you make about it. The only problem I have is that you people almost get violently angry if someone says something wrong. Almost as if you are thinking, "How dare someone not call my place by the right name..." Or "What kind of an idiot doesn't know that the Magic Kingdom is NOT called Disneyworld."

Believe it or not, there ARE people on the planet who don't eat/sleep/and crap Disney 24 hours a day

In all fairness, this is a common mistake. When WDW first opened MK was the only park, so many people just carried this over when the other parks opened. To me it's not a big deal!

Oh, I know it is a very common mistake. I was only correcting her because it was my mother, but she kept insisting that she was right. To me it was funny when she realized that I was the one who was right. If it was anyone else I never would have said anything.....just smiled. But, my mother....? Had to!:animwink:

And you are making just as big of a deal about us making a big deal about it.

The misnomer thing doesn't really bother me much. But I love the reactions I get when I tell people there's actually a ride in Spaceship Earth.

"Spaceship what?"

"The big ball."

"Stop pulling my leg."

The funny thing is this usually comes up when I'm talking to people about their previous Epcot trip and it turns out they walked right by SSE several times.
