Ok so I'm at work talking with a client about what else but disney...Well she goes on about how she really has no desire to go to epcot and visit the "little towns " as she called them.... she likes coaster rides and such..so I proceded to tell her about Animal kingdom and the new EE ride....well I first asked her if she ever went to animal kingdom...she said "oh yeah thats at universal"...uh no....I laughed and then corrected her to tell her where it was ...she then said "oh so its a zoo"...so now I'm stuck in that disney commercial...you know the "its not a zoo" commercial..ok that's done...so then she asks me about what knida of tickets we get..so I tell her that we usually get the park hopper plus ...tell her what its about...so she says" oh so you see disneyworld..and epcot in one day?"..so yes I corrected her once again..saying that magic kingdom has the castle...and epcot has the"ball" (had to simplify) and that disneyworld is actually where we are ,once you go through that " Waltdisney World "sign...yup....I lost her..I told her I quiz her in few weeks....ao I had to laugh to myself...beacuse I knew I'd come home to tell you guys....anyone feel free...you have any stories like these...

15 more days......

OMG! All the time...people talking about Universal Rides that they believe are in Disney...or wanting to go off property...

I stop talking at that point because they are unaware...

I had a similar experience with a co-worker just this week. She had gone to WDW last year and also went to Universal, and some other things around Orlando. She told me afterwards that they only spent one day at WDW which surprised me, because I had been feeding her all this neat stuff to day.

Anyway, last week she said, "Did you know there is more than one park at WDW?" I had the most dumbfounded look on my face and said, "Seems like I remember hearing something about that." She said, "Yeah, there are three other parks beside Disney World."

I just walked away.

I have a friend who's REALLY into superhero comics...like, is absolutely OBSESSED with them. Goes out every Tuesday and buys all the new comics on the shelf. As you might expect, he has a near-encyclopedic knowledge of comics and can recite the most arcane details about them, even comics that were released decades ago.

I have a little interest in the topic. I own a couple of boxes of comics and know a fair bit about comics in general , but nothing near as much as he does.

Whenever we talk about the topic, he typically mentions characters and stories or titles I'm not familiar with. I'll usually smile and nod, maybe throw in a comment or two, even though I know I'm probably getting some things wrong.

He's always cool about it, though. He knows that most people aren't as interested in the topic as he is, so he doesn't talk down to me or try to make me feel bad because I haven't spent as many hours reading comics as he has. He just keeps the conversation on a level I can appreciate, or he takes time to explain something to me if he can tell I don't quite follow.

He's a nice guy. If he ever started acting like I was "special" for not knowing as much about comics as he does, I probably would start thinking he was a jerk, though.

I mean, I LIKE comics and all, but not THAT much. I suspect most people are more like me than him. :)

So you're the guy we're always mocking on my Comic Superhero message board! Hahaha, the funny stories your friend tells about you and your "comic" ignorance. When you weren't sure about the middle name of the second henchman of Aquaman's archenemy ... that was great. Derisive laughter all around, I tell ya! ;)

I don't think this thread was started as a tool to demean others. I imagine it was created to provide a place to vent that small amount of frustration and disappointment that we all feel when in a similar situation. (I suspect that many of the visitors to this web site come here not only for information but to get the satisfaction of communicating with others who get what the heck they are talking about.)

I saw a standup comedian one time who talked about how Coca Cola and Pepsi both spend hundreds of millions of dollars to distinguish themselves from one another. But whenever people go into a restaurant and order a Coke and the server says, "We don't have Coke, but we have Pepsi" most people just say, "Oh that's fine"

Sometimes I think Disney and Universal suffer from the same problem. It seems like a LOT of people get attractions at the two mixed up with one another, or they think Universal is IN "Disney World" or vice versa. So I guess the question I would ask is this: If that many people are confused about all this stuff, whose fault is it? I mean, it's easy to jump to the conclusion that it's the guests themselves being stupid. But if so many people are making these mistakes, then maybe Disney and Universal need to re-evaluate their marketing. Just a thought.:)

I like to walk past that big golf ball thing to ride Fast Track. Then I head over to Mission to Mars and ride that. Then I go over to Disney's zoo and ride that Africian safari ride, and Kawalai Rapids. After that, it's off to Disneyland to ride the Splash Mountain roller coaster, Back to the Future, and Jaws. We end the night by taking the monorail over to the Studios to watch Fantasia.

LMAO...ROFL!!

OK, I'll add mine at the expense of my girlfriend's Mom...
First off, I love my girlfriend's parents to death. They're like my second parents. So we spent this past Christmas with them in southern Florida and then my girlfriend and I drove up to the World on Christmas Day for a week of Magic. We decided that for Christmas we'd bring them up to stay with us for a couple days since her Dad and brother hadn't been there since her brother was a baby. Her Mom, on the other hand, "has been there several times for conventions."
Well, during the planning of this grand event, we all watched the vacation planning DVD together, etc., etc. After viewing the video, we got into talking about what we'd like to do for the days that they were there. The conversation consisted of her Mom playing the well-seasoned Disney veteran, suggesting we could "go to Treasure Island" at night after the parks, and that "Wild Kingdom" might be a place her Dad would like to go.
Bless her heart, I did my best not to correct her.
So, when her folks arrived, we blazed our way through three parks in one day, which I can understand is a bit overwhelming, but her Mom proceeded to add comments throughout the day like "well, I know we don't have time on this trip, but last time we were here we saw Jaws" (to which I'm thinking, "I thought Seven Seas Lagoon was fresh water! LOL!)
Needless to say, when it's your future in-laws you're talking to, I really had to bite my tongue a couple times to keep from straightening out the situation!
OK, so maybe my story was :snore: . LOL! maybe you had to be there...

I think everyone's experiences with WDW are different, and I really don't feel that I have the right to criticize those whose opinions are different from mine. If my friends ask for advice, I gladly give it, but I don't fell like I'm a failure, or that they're morons, if they don't share my enthusiasm.

This reminds me of the conversation I had with my mother before a trip last year. We invited her along as a "thank you" for all of her help and so she could enjoy her grandchildren and this magical place together.

Well, she was insisting that Disney World is actually Magic Kingdom, and the rest were just other Disney parks.... etc etc, you know how people get confused. I kept explaining it to her "There are 4 main parks, Disney World is the entire complex together etc" and she kept arguing with me. Finally, a little light went on and she realized I was right and she was wrong...... It was a great moment! LOL

I can do one better! My husband called it Michigan Space last week.   Thing is, he has no excuse (like my grandma, who still calls all places Disney "Disneyland" ) Andy's been there at least a dozen times altogether, and 4 or 5 since M:S has been open!

Well put Mimi! We're not here to put down people who don't "get" WDW like we do. Just to enjoy the pleasure of the company of those who do. :)

It is amazing how you people get so offended when someone says something wrong. Gosh, you'd think they were doing something criminal. I remember reading a thread once where someone was telling a story about overhearing someone on the monorail giving out the wrong information, and she said, "If I had to listen anymore I would have jumped on her and started screaming..."

Come on...is it really that big of a deal if someone calls the Magic Kingdom Disneyworld, or calls Test Track fast track...my parents do both of those...SO WHAT!!

I'm sure you've been in a situation where you think you know something and are telling someone but you are wrong. And I'm sure you wouldn't appreciate it if you were looked down upon by those around you who do know about whatever subject you might be talking about.

In all fairness, this is a common mistake. When WDW first opened MK was the only park, so many people just carried this over when the other parks opened. To me it's not a big deal!

I don't think that we are saying we are offended. But don't you think if a person took the time to fly/drive someplace as big as WDW, stay for for a week or so, see all the park maps and maybe resort TV, not to mention the money they will be spending, they would know the names of the parks, at least, or that the MK is not Disney World?
