Did anyone watch the Christmas Day Parade on ABC?

I finally had a chance to watch my taped copy of the Christmas Day Parade on ABC. Some observations.

At times it seemed that Kelly was on a green screen. It just didn't look as though she was actually there for the whoel event.

The sound quality was horrible during the Jonas Brothers performance as well as one of those other Disney channel stars.

I don't udnerstand why some performances are lipsynched while others were actually live.

I really liked the stop motion animation sequences during some of the breaks and at the end.

It felt more like a Christmas parade and less like a two hour commericial.

I usually don't care too much for Celine Deion, but I found her performances quite good.

Overall I throughly enjoyed the show.

Green screen? Hmm didn't notice anything unusual...why wouldn't she be there the entire time?

I also thoroughly enjoyed it as I do every Disney parade! I still miss the Easter parade :(

I was able to catch chunks of it. I didn't notice any green screening, but if there was any, it might have been due to weather difficulties during shooting. From what I saw, there didn't appear to be too much (if any) re-used footage from past years, which was a welcome change.

If you liked the footage playing under the credits, here are two Youtube videos you'd like. It's not stop motion at all, but rather a photography technique called tilt-shift.
Magic Kingdom Tilt Shift: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HyZfIlxwsfI
Epcot Tilt Shift: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6pTRcVuoRA

I work with green screen technology for photography and didn't notice any of the usual effects of green screen on Kelli but I did on Nick Cannon before the JB performance. Nick had a defined edge on him that does indicate he could be in front of a green screen. It is very possible Kelli was green screened but after a commercial in the beginning, seeing the fast forward shots you can see Kelli at the bottom of the shot on the stage. The Jonas Brothers sound was not as good as I would have liked (I prefer them muted IMHO LOL). There was more screaming teenagers coming through than the music. I'm not sure what performances were and were not lipsynced. I too loved the Celine Dion performance; she is truly gifted and I doubt she lipsynced.

Personally, I missed Regis being there. Being alone, Kelly sounded like she was reading the whole script. Without Regis there, there was no banter. I was a little disappointed...

I agree, there were some obviously differences in lighting.

All in all, I really disliked this parade. It didn't feel as fun as all the rest, and in fact felt kinda forced. There was nothing to really showcase, seeing that there is nothing new in the parks. We barely saw EC, DAK and DHS, either. Kellie was ok, I prefer her paired with Regis, and the other Co-host was aggravating. Who was he again?

Celine ScreamOn was meh, as usual, but her first number was good. Don't know they had her conclude from the GF, that really left it on a low note. It should have been in front of the Castle, like they did in previous years with a VERY big finale with pyro and the works.

Hope it's better next year...I usually really like them!

I'm sorry to say that I REALLY Dislike the Whole Disney Parks and lame gimmicky specials from the Recent years...Why can't they be as great as they use to be...When they didn't have to Force things Down your throat..I loved the ones in the 1980's and early 90's when they were simple and were also celebrated at Epcot & Disney*MGM at the time...Take a look and you would really say...I WANT THIS AGAIN!!

Yes, they did had a rather large lighting projector down Main Street and by the Castle to compensate for the weather that day.

However, as stated previously from my Blog, there simply was not much attention to anything else in the other WDW parks. They only zoomed through the headliner attractions as mentioned from the volunteer stories. Surely more attention could've been paid to minor attractions and other experiences, recreational or personal, even if it was also a nanosecond. Of course, they focus on the major attractions to draw crowds but fail to utilize more of what they have in those segments.

And they also could've made a plug about the FYL expansion during the Princess sequence. Why they didn't is a mystery to me, unless they plan to reveal it when timing is perfect for them. Which, IMO, should've been during that part of the parade...

Oh, and Nick Cannon was the replacement host. Yeeeaaahhh - he's forgetful. :lookaroun

Exactly. I guess they are saving that for the opening? You would think that they would milk it for all it's worth...

I'm with you. The best commercial for a Disney park is just showing it, like that video does. Forget all the concert set pieces and marketing tie-ins and just let people see what's there waiting for them. That video is just plain fun.

Also, the show has a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Cinderella (a movie that would have been around 36 years old at the time). Unless it was being re-released on VHS around the same time, there's no marketing "need" served by that. It's just plain cool!

BTW, Mickey sounds like a wanna-be NY street tough at 3:23.

Exactly. Good promotion, just for the sake of it. I don't think that there was a VHS Release...That was in the early 90's.

Cinderella had a theatrical rerelease in 1987. That was a typical promotion for it.

I enjoyed the parade, however,I did so while knowing thatvthe parades can be better. They have improved in recent years though. I wish that the Thanksgiving and Easter events still happened, but oh well.

I watched some WDW anniversary party videos on YouTube a while back, and they pulled out all the stops for those things! A-List celebrities, televised parades and fireworks.

I would love for 4th of July and New Years events to be televised. A few acts to beef it up and make it similar to ________ Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest wouldn't be bad fir both events. Televise fireworks and performances too. I'd love something like tahr forcthe 40th!

That's another thing. I REALLY miss all those long specials on ABC for something big happening in the parks.
