Did all Disney has to offer...without the parks

As far as "crimes" goes, this is a small issue. But it is annoying that people do this. The pools are for people who pay to stay at the resorts. I am sure there were not that many guests in the pool for it to make a big difference but in busy times if other tourists and locals all did this then it would turn a small issue into a bit one. We would not feel comfortable doing something like this, it is against our moral code. I am interested in hearing from to OP on why he thinks that this is OK to do.

Pool Hopping the ultimate Disney forum gripe. The way I see it is if I am resort hopping, having a $25 drink at the Disney bar, and my DD wants to jump in the pool for a few minutes, whose really going to stop her? At all of the resorts I have stayed, none of them know or care. For those that complain about it, do you stay at your resort and check to see if everyone is a resort guest at the pools?

Resort hopping, to me, means that you are staying on property. Although Disney does not want you to pool hop, I personally do not have an issue with that if you are staying at a WDW resort. The OP was not staying at ANY WDW property and did not even pay to go to the parks. Just came on property and used the pool for free. There is a big difference in the 2. IMO

Not a similar comparison. He didn't go into anyone's room and he didn't join anyone in an ADR. He took up mass in places where there is plenty to go around. Now, if anyone here could show that he actually had an effect on someone not being able to use the pool, then you guys might have an argument.
I'm sure those 700 DVC members who got in free to the after hours event didn't have an effect on those 300 who paid $149 either....there was plenty of space to go around ...extreme example, but just sayin where does it the conditional line end? On my end, its conditional on whether or its worth saying something, but its NOT conditional on whether or not it was right or wrong...

Who is really going to stop him? The OP SAID he wasn't a paying guest and indicated it took a two-fold line of BS to even get past the guard; the guard offered the initial "resistance" but the dude wasn't havin it. Check to see if everyone at the pool is a resort guest? Why? Again, he put it out there he wasn't...and the way I read it, he was bragging about how clever he and the wife were in gettin over...

And he sees it the same way you do...if he buys a $25 drink (or muffins), and wants to jump in the pool, who's really going to stop them?

I have a question. For all of you who think that going swimming at Disney resort without being a guest is OK, does this only apply only to WDW or anywhere. Would it be OK to do this at Universal? How about some hotel on I-Drive. Or what about some hotel in your home city. So you are sitting at home one day and decide to go swimming, do you drive to a local hotel and use their pool? How is WDW any different then any other hotel in the world?

So let's ALL do this then. We all want to save a buck on our vacation when visiting the mouse, right? The OP, and some other's who are in support of him, have made it clear they are entitled to hop in the pool after buying a cookie and a drink. We all have learned that we can lie our way past the guards via this thread and really, we're not hurting anyone. So why not! I say let's all do this over the 4th of July holiday. It's not THAT crowded. We can stay at the local motel 4 down the block, bring our floaties and settle in for the day. To heck with those who paid for the resort amenities...they're a bunch of chumps for not taking advantage of this great deal.

Just curious how you explain that your kids when you DO get kicked out of a pool you're not supposed to be in and little Susie and Timmy are crying that they don't want to leave the pool. "Sorry kids, we have to leave because we snuck in and got caught?" That's probably too honest of an answer...it probably get's turned around and blamed and Disney, right?

And pool-hopping to me isn't a big deal but as @Dad 2 M & M pointed out, when you pay for a more expensive room for a certain property's amenity (BC/YC's pool for example), it isn't right to have someone from say Pop "hopping" over to use those facilities. Honestly, I'd be perfectly happy with having to scan your MB/room key to get into the pool areas at ALL resort pool areas.

Plenty to go around??? Thats crap. Just because theres room at the pool he has no right to take what isnt paid for. Even if Disney isnt losing a cent for him doing it hes wrong.
I'm paying my prices for my resort package that gives me all thats included in the package and getting the benefits of staying on property. He takes advantage of the lack of security and his lack of morals to take what he didnt pay for. It doesnt matter if he has affected the pool seating or seating on the buses. What matters is these things are supposed to be exclusive benefits for those who paid for it. So why cant I spunge off of him when he pays??? I'd rather save for my trip and know I got what I earned and didnt take what wasnt mine.

Yeah, but those DVC members were invited. And judging by all of the photos I've seen, they didn't have any effect on those who paid. I saw kazillions of photos where people were dang near the only ones on the ride.

Settle down, kid. I didn't say it was right. I'm pointing out that they took up air and water space, which are plentiful. Even Bill Nye would agree with that. And guess what, he's sponging off of Disney, not you. Man, some of you folks need to calm down about stuff. When you're at the resort pool when you ARE at WDW, do you go around checking for people's credentials as resort guests? I'm betting that this happens more than people realize. You only know about this incident because he confessed to it. So give me a break with the Internet protests already, geesh.

How about " Sorry kids, they're being mean"

And, I'm not sure, but I think you do have to scan your MB almost at every pool with a fence (somebody will jump in and correct)? I believe the All-Stars is the last resort to add the fencing and if they are not done, they are working on them now...

Except that he clearly stated that he took the boat from Disney Springs to the resort, he didn't "lie his way past the guards". He also purchased a ride on the carriage, which I'm sure costs a bit more than a cookie and drink. I'm not condoning his actions, mind you, simply pointing out the ridiculous ferocity with which people are reacting to this. And those of us who aren't up in arms like you are not saying anything about being entitled, we're simply trying to put what he did into a realistic scope.

I do agree with you guys though, they should(and I would assume plan on) adding scan spots to get into all resort pools.

Don't forget to bring your refillable mug from last year and your cigarettes and beer hat to the Gay Days Pool Hopping party at the Poly while staying at Universal.

*there...that should offend just about everybody*
Had you thrown in: Wheelchair, service-dog, or Donald Trump into that sentence...the internet as we know it would have imploded. Talk about a close call.

I must admit it would never occur to me to do something like this. I would expect this sort of thing from teenagers I suppose, but adults? Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should. What's wrong with the pool at the hotel you are staying at? This seems like an awful lot of trouble to save some money. I can see visiting a WDW resort to dine. If you want to swim at a WDW resort pool save your money and stay at a WDW hotel. That's just bad form. This is akin to going to a party and making an extra plate of food to take home with you to eat later. Sure you can do it, but why would you want to? That's just embarrassing.

Save money? He paid for a carriage ride AT the resort. Again, this isn't a clear case of getting something for free. It's breaking the rules, sure, but he did patronize the place as well.

When it starts to look like this, I'm sure Disney will do something.

I've been pretty non-committal on this issue, but where do you draw the line on "theft of services"?

Is it really even our place to decide what constitutes "fair use" and what constitutes "theft of services"?

I think until Disney decides to press charges on someone then we will never know how far they can be pushed.
