Diagon full opening day

While not my thing to wait in line on opening day I see it as no different then people who camp out for concert tickets back in the day. The wait with other fans is part of the expierence and fun. Heck I did it as a teen we used to line up overnight for our local Alt Rock Festival in the 90s pre online buying. It was fun although I couldn't imagine doing it as and adult b

If I didn't have a 7 month old, I probably would have gone just to do it. When I was full-time, pre-baby, I had Tuesdays off usually, so I probably would have done it just because it would be an experience and it would make for an exciting day off. Also, about half my FB friends are either CMs or TMs and soooo many of them were there today. I'd say the majority of crazies waiting in that grand opening 7 hour line were 20-something CPs and/or locals.
But if I were a non-local who was paying thousands upon thousands of dollars for a vacation at Uni/Disney/wherever, this is NOT a week I would have chosen to visit. That - to me - is crazy (or possibly poor planning). :)

(For what it's worth, my husband and I - and baby - visited Diagon Alley yesterday. But we will probably stay far, FAR away until the crowds die down in September)

We all love the parks, but why would anyone possibly subject themselves to the kind of crowds and waits reported here? How is any of this possibly pleasurable in any way, and even though you get bragging rights to be the first kid on your block and all that, isn't life really too short to spend 6 to 10 hours melting in the humid Florida sun for a four minute ride, when the same ride will still be there in a year and (hopefully) with reasonable crowds. This is just nutty!
that is the definition of "die hard" fans.
they will stop at nothing from getting their fix.

there is a huge difference imho.. I remember It was mentioned before.

Concerts are usually limited in both capacity and dates.
A ride will never go down unless they are tearing them down (which I dont think it will happen in the next 10 or so years for Potter)

Nice to see Universal had Gringott's ready for opening day. Universal Comcast learned nothing from 1990.....

Anyone know the length of the guest relations line?

The crowds are no where near the crowd for Hogsmeade on opening, the major difference is Forbidden Journey was ready for guests, Gringotts is not.
You know nothing.

I was at Hogsmeade's grand opening and at Diagon's today. Very similar crowd sizes. The difference is how much more organized things were this time around.

Even though Gringott's was up and down today, it seemed to be running more than not. Something that advanced should be expected to have issues. Forbidden Journey had issues on opening day when I was there too...as did the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.

Look, we can turn this into a ing contest (this ride had MORE DOWNTIME) but let's not pretend that Gringotts doesn't have MASSIVE issues and objectively is not ready for daily full-time operation. The ride itself, when it works, looks to be great from what I've heard - but right now, it's an operational mess and will continue to be for the rest of the summer (and possibly beyond that). If they can't get the kinks worked out by HHN, I'm sure those early closings will be a wonderful respite.

So we entered the line to get in to DA at 8:47am. They are saying 3-5 hours to get in the land. 4 hours for Gringott's.

I will update as I progress through the lines.

Edit: 9:10am: They started issuing return time tickets for 10:30. So we got one and are getting on the HE now.

Edit: 9:50am:just single ridered FJ. Getting a Hog's Head Brew for the train ride back to DA.

Edit: 10:30am: going in.

Edit: 11:00am in line for Gringott's. Posted 270 min. Stand-by.

Yes in the case of the Yeti, it's been a 7 year riot. :p
Not to mention that the mine train goes down daily and not a word from our village idiot. Yet apparently according to SNJ1279 DA is a miserable failure. Obviously this guy has Mickey Head Rice Krispy Treats for brains.
I am absolutely DONE with putting up with his absolute crap posts. The guy really is a hairs breadth from being retarded.

Gringotts was not ready to open. Most new rides go down, but Gringotts is going down while running at half capacity or less.

Yes, they are having issues with Gringott's. Did you think that up all by yourself, or did you read it on some Disney Board?
The 7DMT was down longer yesterday than Gringott's. It has been open for over a month with daily down times. It was obviously not ready to open. What's you clever response to that smart guy?

I really don't have the patience to deal with your crazy. But thanks for playing.

7DMT is an outdoor coaster that has to brave the elements of a summer in Orlando. It is expected to be done from time to time. When it runs(which is the majority of the time), it runs at full capacity.

Universal knew Gringotts wasn't ready for July 8, but they decided to open anyway. They didn't want to lose out on the huge summer dollars by keeping Diagon Alley closed. Who cares if people have to wait 6 hours to experience a malfunctioning under half capacity attraction? Certainly not Universal.

Overcrowded land, with overcrowding walkways and cramped stores and a low capacity headliner. Summer at Universal sounds like fun.
