Where are these 'hunches' coming from? This is the first I'm hearing of it... and I'm hearing it a lot. What's up? :veryconfu

Recent rumors of additions to the PotC appeared here. I think adding this minor attraction may be the answer to guest demand if they are planning a Haunted Mansion style rehab for PotC. Guests will still be able to get some kind of pirate interaction in the meantime.

That hallway where the queue is, for Narnia and now Pirates could really use some themeing. I'm hoping they'll theme it to look like an actual backstage for pirates. With just left over pieces of sets used in the movies strew about, that you could walk through as you queue for the attraction.

If it is the beginning of the rolling out of bigger plans then it is worth getting excited about. Time will tell. I have begun to think the "potter swatter" has been happening right before our eyes but perhaps we are all too close to see it.

Crazy old Maurice -- always good for a laugh.

Just the opposite I suspect. I think the classic PotC ride is about to be all about the Sparrow version of Pirates. They need this open to close PotC and refurb it. Just a hunch. And I think it could be awesome. Better than the HM upgrade.

I love Pirates as it is, and I have little doubt that if it does get a HM-style refurb, that classic scenes will remain. But I'm with you - a high-end refurb could be awesome. I'm hoping that the battle at sea scene is massively plussed. It's a little tepid right now, just a bit of noise and splashing water, but imagine if it were given a huge upgrade, with the passenger boats rocking amid a huge storm at sea and cannons blazing away and maybe even a kraken...

...well, scratch that last bit. I just got visions of a disabled AA and a new meme - "disco kraken"... :p

Still, a huge refurb for Pirates would be epic as long as it preserved most of the original ride while upgrading the effects and sound system. I'm sure Walt would approve of that (and, incidentally, be very proud of the Pirates films' success, although he might question the quality of a couple of the sequels...)

Well over a year ago, Rum Pirate leaked out that the Hitchhiking Ghosts were about to be upgraded to CGI interactive spooks and everyone said that he was crazy. A few months later, we all found that he was right. Several months ago there was talk about mermaids being added to POTC and out of the blue comes Rum Pirate who claimed that there was a major refurb coming and we should expect POTC to be closed for a long time. Since he/she was dead on the money about the HHG's when no one else would believe it, I'm willing to go on a little faith here and hope for something big.

I'll quote Martin's earlier post since most people seem to have missed him in this thread-
A walk in, another walk in, and a walk out.

That does not inspire confidence, especially coming from a guy who would know. I'm expecting the worst here (like someone else), and maybe i won't be disappointed. I don't see any point hyping up something like this.

If this turns out to bring good things to the ride itself, then that's at least a positive. But i'm pretty sure our insiders have already confirmed that any hopes of a major POTC refurb have long since been axed (heard there was originally plans for an outdoors segment and a "going up the waterfall" bit or something that underwent a budget slashing). Lee and others have mentioned mermaids coming to the caves in the beginning of the ride, hardly a major addition (however nice, though i'd prefer to have some more of the skeleton curse scenes from CA's version instead). Ironically, i think the thing the ride needs the most at the moment might be a competent sound person to fix the sound system up (i can barely hear most of the dialog or singing).

I keep imagining some of the animatronics that could be added. Seriously, there are some amazing concepts in the movie that could be duplicated for the ride. This is the kind of thing Iger has proven willing to greenlight.

I believe also that Lee talked about mermaids. There are amazing possibilities with this attraction being upgraded. The HHG rang true to me as does the mermaid rumor. Fingers crossed.

Who was that rap star that was brought back to life a couple of weeks back using hologram technology? Admittedly I have no clue if this is what is planned, but I know when I read about this Sparrow sensory experience, I thought of that...

Wasn't a hologram. They used a version of Pepper's Ghost - like on Haunted Mansion.

It's happening.
A basic walk-through. One large room, like Narnia but with a PotC theme.
Not what I would consider major at all.

I was thinking they would do something similar to Posidons Fury like Uni has. It seems to be a sensory walkthrough experience. Although it isn't an E-ticket it is something that does kill time and is pretty neat to check out. A pirate themed version of it would be pretty cool. Is there enough room in the building to do something like that? With multiple rooms to walk through and then a big room at the end for a battle of ships and what not???

No.
This is just a one room thing.

Set your expectations on "low".

Wouldn't it be nice if while the construction equipment was there they took a few extra days to remove a certain hat located nearby?

Just move the hat outside the front entrance. All the people who like the hat would be happy, Disney could still market it as one of the 4 park icons, and we'd have the old view back looking down Hollywood Blvd. I actually think the hat is rather nice...just move it. :)
