I think your right on the money here. Disney has a lot riding on Avatar and they want to stroke Cameron's ego. Plus, update on Disney Springs. Iger has a lot riding on Shanghai going over the top. Star Wars comes out in December and Abrams doesn't want any leaks. Hopefully we do get some idea about the Pixar expansion. One comment that I can add to this is that it would not surprise me if there was a lot that was not leaked about this project, even at D23. The main reason being is that this is going to be a substantial announcement considering the sheer amount of work that this could involve. WDW has so much going on right now from a construction perspective; there are almost new changes/refurbs/additions/expansions/etc happening constantly.
For example, to keep someone like James Cameron happy, I doubt that they would overshadow the Avatar expansion with a major Star Wars announcement. Even though Avatar is the highest grossing film to date, it still pales in comparison to the impact that Star Wars has had on the cultural zeitgeist in this country, as well as at a global level.
Indeed, it would not surprise me if the Star Wars 'stuff' is the last thing to be announced with everything that has been going on. That will allow them to shine the light on projects like DTD/DS, Shanghai, as well as everything going on at DAK, including the show piece that is going to be Pandora, along with the overall transformation of the park from just a day park to a park that is opened late enough for a new nighttime show and night safaris. That way, Cameron can have his time with Pandora in the spotlight prior to the arrival of the galaxy that won't be so far, far away anymore. It would not shock me if more real details about DHS - and more specifically Star Wars - is held off until 2017. Not that my opinion will make people very happy, but I could certainly see it being handled that way. But who knows? I have never felt that Disney's Marketing and PR Divisions were that great to begin with. I mean, look at how that made that big Pandora push for DAK...from Japan!

I always thought Test Track could be a Cars themed ride. But you are making a good case for Star Wars at EPCOT.I just sensed a terrible disturbance in the force...
What if the target land for Star Wars isnt HS, but EPCOT?
Think about it...
The seas would become Naboo.
Test Track becomes Tatooine Racers
Mission Space is The Galactic Training Center
The Land becomes the Rebel Base, and Soarin becomes "Journey to Cloud City"
Energy becomes a "worlds of the empire" ride with scenes from Hoth, and the like.
Imagination becomes the Jedi Academy.
Star Tours is shut down and moved to Wonders of Life which becomes the Space Port.
And Soaceship Earth is a Journey through the Death Star.
(Shudders!)
Currently 9/7-9/10 for Mermaid.
Rumored closure for both is end of operations 9/27.

Still reassuring to here positive (even if not definitive) MuppetVision news. I think the legacy of Jim Henson needs to be kept around.Nothing definitive. Personally I was told it's staying. Then depends who else you talk to.
In the past, attractions have often closed around fiscal year end. Makes budgeting and things a little cleaner that way. If you're already planning to close somewhere around that time, might as well time it to fiscal year-end.Seems coincidence that the rumored closure date is in line with Disney fiscal end. My guess is that someone was looking at a Fiscal Calendar and these are not actual closures. At least not by end of Sept.
Also, why would they close Mermaid right after a short refurb? What's the point?

I assume the refurb will be canceled if they finalize the closing. Then why refurb a few days before close?

Couldn't it also just be a "closing of the books" for operations of the rides for fiscal end. That guy on that other site has been wrong about things before, especially when it comes to details. Seems like he is just jumping to conclusions about closing these down.
Edit: didn't know listing that other site was considered a bad word. Sorry!
love to hear it... pm?Yeah there's a back story. He's been declared "persona non grata" and then some.
