DHS Makeover - What we know so far.....

Sorry, I was a little off on the 2.5, but based on my research which is in this thread, http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/construction-times.875058/, all three of those took a little under 3 years which is what was really in question. I stand by my assertion that a Star Wars attraction could be built in 3 years even at the current pace of construction.

Now, whether I believe they will start working on Star Wars in time to have it open in three years, that's another story.

Are you... are you seriously quoting yourself as your own source?

Also keep in mind that with the NDA's that are in place we probably don't know how much of the Imagineering portion is done. I hope that this is all true and within the next three years the majority of these new lands and attractions will be done. I have a lot of faith in Disney and believe they CAN do it in under 3 years, if the effort, money and manpower is put into it. If that will be done, is an entirely different conversation. Marie

I'm curious... what exactly about the track record of the last 10 - 15 years of WDW has made you put 'faith' into TDO?

If I had known construction times were such a sensitive topic I would have stuck with safer ones like strollers and tour groups. ;)

Its not the construction times - its that for some reason people think Disney will just flip a switch and build everything right away. This isn't DLR where they would. Until they prove differently, they will not. They haven't in a very long time, regardless of its 30 months or 36. Both are far, far too long. In reality, they should have a Star Wars attraction ready to go for December. I was wrong when I said it was three movies within 3 years of now. Its actually four. And Episode IX wouldn't be far away. They should be trying to capitalize on the release of these movies, not trying to keep the rides relevant after they've been out already.

2.5 years is a very long time when Universal (or Cedar Fair and Six Flags, for that matter - yes, I realize the theming is much less/non existent at the latter two) can do them in about a year.
And what 'major' attractions have taken 2.5 years or less at WDW 'recently'?
Well, for one attraction (King Kong) they will be taking more than two years. Work began before Diagon opened and it finally went verticle in October of that year according to my thread here http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/skull-island-reign-of-kong-construction-and-hype-thread.891178/

Point taken, I will switch faith to hope. As you have said DLR has done it, WDW CAN as well, if they choose to do so and get that go ahead. If that will happen is a whole other question. I am hoping so, I like DHS and would like to see it get some love. Also I agree with the relevant statements. Frozen went over like gangbusters last year, because it is relevant to what the kids are seeing in their homes NOW, not 3 years ago. Marie

Right, and Frozen is popular enough still this year, but next year when the attraction opens? Who knows. At least they will have Frozen 2 to help boost synergy with the ride.

You said 2.5. Now you've switched it to 3. None of those attractions took less than 30 months, even if you go from construction start date. The only one that can even be considered close is Mermaid, and while a nice attraction, I wouldn't consider it 'major' on the level of what would be expected from a new Star Wars E-Ticket.

Well I was about to back you and suggest you have every right to feel this way about the company, based on their recent track record...... but then you went and split hairs between 2 1/2 & 3 years.

You're right that the entire length of this project is going to take awhile. You're correct in assuming multiple phases of Pixar. Star Wars will take awhile too.

But they need to get something open soon.

Good things are going to happen. Don't split hairs.

No hair splitting, I was just basing my posts on the first number he gave, which was 2.5.
Either way, I think start of construction to anything over 2 years is too long. If they announce something and say 'we aren't starting on this part til 2017' thats one thing. But if the attraction in that space is already closed, then they need to start right away. Not wait for the sake of keeping expenditures down.

Have faith. I get your frustration, I really do.

Look at it this way - when an entire part of the park is closed down, they don't have to worry about guest or keeping things open for them. They can work and work fast.

IMO, they should close the ENTIRE park for 6 months and just go after it at this point.

Also - its not the company I'm frustrated with, just TDO. Iger is a joke, but he's a hands-off joke, so he is inconsequential.

Well we have new leadership in Parks and Resorts with Chapek. Staggs was all about the money, time to see if NewBob will get things done.

I'm a former employee and was told that work of some sort has already started where SWW merch was this year (the old Studio tour queue). Hence why there was no Oaken's Trading Post this year
They wouldn't start before 1st Q would they?

What the new guy said. Things are already in motion. Theyre not quite to "tear stuff down" mode but the ball is rolling.
