DHS Makeover - What we know so far.....

I don't think "Studios" really has to be removed. I mean, no one gets confused with the name "Universal Studios" do they? And both parks seem to be going in a similar direction with the kinds of expansions they're getting.

Name change not really needed IMO.

It is needed to draw a line in the sand for easier marketing like BDGIST(BC) and ALDGAC(AD). But more importantly to show the park has changed philosophies. A simple Disneys Hollywoodland - would be ideal, but Disney likes to over complicate simple solutions with BS so ...

It's not all that hard to figure out. This is a park showcasing the entertainment industry. Movies, TV, and Music. So Disney's Hollywood Adventure is a perfect name......that is rumored to be testing poorly with surveyed guests.

So if it is testing poorly it is not the perfect name... You may like it others don't SMH ha jk

While the announcement for Star Wars Land and Pixar Land and maybe something else all sounds neat, it does leave me wondering:

What is DHS supposd to be?

Think about DL/MK. They're fairly clear with their lands and how it's all laid out and all that. Both are very popular well-rounded parks. You can make some arguments with regards to Tomorrowland and tooning it up, but, overall, they're fairly well rounded.

With Epcot it's clear that there's a look to the future and a look to the past (along with the multi-cultural aspect). Again, you can make arguments that Epcot ought to have more countries and Future World ought to be updated. I'm not arguing that. I'm saying that there's a fairly clear theme happening.

Animal Kingdom is animals and foliage from different continent. You know you're getting animals. That's the theme. It's well done.

Hollywood Studios. At one time this place had a working theme. Now it's called "studios" even though it is not a working studio. There are sound stages where they've put some rides and shops in. The old Hollywood is there and, with the removal of the hat, looking better than ever.

Here's my problem: I kind of wonder if they're just doing some quick fixes to DHS with, "Let's put in a Pixar Land! Let's put in a Star Wars Land!" Ok. Then what. Why do those lands belong there? What brings it altogether? Is it going to be "Disney Properties Theme Park"?

I'm just thinking that while we're all excited about them finally doing something with DHS, I don't know if just tossing a bunch of stuff at it really fixes it. It'll be interesting. I'm looking forward to the new areas and rides.

Are we going to be left with DHS becoming "Other". It has some lands in it. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Just some stuff that they stuck there.
It has always been a massacre of theming anyway. The front of the park is the only really well done part of the park. And since that's the only part staying essentially then good riddance to the rest.

So, WDWMagic posted a news items on how the lands may fit in DHS: http://www.wdwmagic.com/attractions...-may-fit-within-disneys-hollywood-studios.htm

It shows that 50s Prime Time could be absorbed into the new SW land. I know this has been discussed before. If that happens, re-theming it as the diner from EpII seems the most obvious choice since it already has a 50s vibe to it.

Universal changed to the same philosophy of now bringing you to the worlds of your favorite movies, TV shows, and soon Video Games yet they don't need to get rid of the "Studios" name to avoid confusion. All I'm saying is that if you think about it a name change isn't really necessary for DHS.

Oh it is ... Disney doesn't have any TV production. Universal still has video production, such as The Voice Kids and some other TV.

There are more than a few pieces missing from the puzzle. The presentation was a Cliff's notes version of an unfinished story with pages torn out and run over by the passing tractor. Then the DoD got out the black marker and redacted the heck out of it.

The most straight forward thing presented at D23 Expo for the "parks" was Toy Story (play)Land. The concept art for Star Wars was limited to overall shots or "elevations". The concepts presented as attractions were intentionally vague. The attraction list provided is incomplete.

Watch things start to happen (in Florida) as early as October and as late as January. You can indulge your Anaheim inferiority complex until then.

This.
D23 was just a teaser.

Parts of SW attractions are still in the R&D phase.

So is the only green for DHS: TSL and SWL? If so how the hell has the BoD approved a plan for $2.8bn without anything else "green"?

Like I've said all along that budget is a head fake so the Disney fanboi's will spew how great WDW will be for 18-36 months until they understand the cynics were right and only TSPL will be built.

It's not my decision… Although honestly and I don't mean this to be hurtful, if it was my decision it would be long gone.

That show jumped the shark and jumped relevancy years ago.

I'll say this for the Little Mermaid show- bunraku performed with blacklights is a really, really good idea.
I would happily watch an entire show performed like that.

That and the mist lasers were cool.
And I liked some of the details in the holding room.

The project is green lit and I'm sure it was revealed to the BoD what the general project is. There are folks who are aware of the general set up of the entire project. You don't put in 14 and 11 acre puzzle pieces without knowing the other pieces. That doesn't mean all the rides are fully fleshed out, just that they have a master plan (one would hope!).

I highly doubt it was "we need $2.8 bn but can't say why!" like an African prince.
