DHS CARS LAND

I doubt DHS's identity issues will ever get fixed.
Well the thing is Some parks are not as identity driven as others. All the Magic Kingdom Parks are more or less a collection of Different Genres or settings loosely connected to each other. Parks like EPCOT or Animal Kingdom are supposed to be one complete unified whole. Both DHS and DCA were intended to be unified wholes but it just didn't work out. (Why would people living in California want a park about California?) I feel that the way to move those parks forward is to apply The Magic Kingdom model to them. That being said DCA and DHS had relatively weak concepts to begin with. Epcot was such a sound concept that the attempts to turn that park to the Magic Kingdom model have failed spectacularly because the underlying concept is so strong.

DCA arguably has a bigger identity crisis now than it did a few years back

I don't think it's all that debatable. Buena Vista Street is great, but otherwise all the additions to DCA have made it more of a thematic mess. Initially, it's identity was very well executed -- the problem was, as just stated, why would people in California want to visit a park about California? I don't know what Mermaids or animated Cars or Monsters have to do about California (or a show about colors for that matter), but new attractions in that park have made it a much better place to visit as a guest which is the more important thing.

I think a well executed Star Wars land can be a big boon to DHS as Cars was for DCA, but there needs to be more added to DHS just like there were other attractions and theming added to DCA in its makeover.

I think that way too, but every time I've been to Vegas with friends from NY or NJ they always want to go to the NYNY casino. I gravitate towards something different from my everyday, but some people like the comfortable I guess.

Oh my, really? It's...ok, I guess. I'd prefer the Bellagio or the Venetian myself. :p

Why would people living in the Midwest want to go to a park about California?

When I went to Disneyland, DCA was an afterthought. In fact, if Radiator Springs Racers hadn't been there, I probably would have skipped it altogether. I prefer going to Yosemite itself as opposed to seeing it on a film. So, I would agree that a Midwesterner probably isn't driven to visit a park about California when I would rather visit the places in California that the park represents. To be honest, even going to California for Disney wasn't going to happen. I happened to be in Anaheim for work and thus the chance to go to Disneyland. Having gone, I'll probably not go out there again. I prefer WDW's location and surroundings. Now, if only DHS would get the upgrade that it needs (even though it won't open until 2020, based on the FLE timing).

I miss the tile mural at the right side as you enter DCA. And the fountain at the "hub"ish area. And even the giant lettered CALIFORNIA out front.

I think they killed a great deal of charm when making these changes.

The mural was flat out beautiful. But then again, whatever happened to the Mary Blair mural in Tomorrowland at DL. Yep. Same treatment. Dang shame.

Tell me about it. I love that newer wing of the Venetian, the Palazzo. The sports book is amazing and they have a Lamborghini dealership in the basement. If I'm going to pretend I'm someone else and somewhere else that's the place I go. I did win $1,000 on a slot machine at NYNY one time. Stopped to meet up with a friend who was staying there and wanted a beer so I saw the cocktail waitress coming and sat down at a machine. That was one heck of a lucky beer;)...and probably the best tip she got that night too.

I disagree. BVS, Hollywoodland, Condor Flats, Grizzly Peak, Paradise Pier and even Cars Land all feel very California to me. I love that I can come to Disneyland and still experience a lot of the state of California, especially when I'm only there for a few days. I think where it slips is some of the attractions not have very strong themes. A good example would be Goofy's Sky School.

Even Buena Vista Street is a mess. When does it take place? Why did Walt steal Oswald from a gas station?
There is too much pretense on Buena Vista Street. In my opinion they should drop the whole "This is the LA Walt saw" shackles in a vain attempt to keep the California theme and let the place speak for itself. It should take you back to a place and see it through your eyes rather than through Walt's eyes. That feels contrived to me and sucks me out of the time and place. It's being unable to see the forest from the trees.

They were trying to make Disneyland into a destination resort - so don't limit yourself into just thinking about Californians

In addition... Do people not build museums and reconstructions in areas where the originals? Do they only celebrate and recreate at remote locations?

Dca didn't just clone what was around the corner....

I guess, since I lived in Cali, I never thought about it that way. When they were building it, I thought...that's silly, I can just go see Cali!
