Bottom line is the hat will be leaving. They may even pull another wand on us and give a weeks notice...

Please be right, please be right!!! One of the top 2 gifts I ever got from the karma Gods was that stupid wand coming down after we'd planned our 07 trip - absolutely fantastic!!! :sohappy:

Excellent. The hat really has no choice but to come down, I am sure it is not built to last more then a decade or so. If it was designed and constructed with the idea that it would just be a temporary thing, how could it last for too long?

Those who defend BAH seem to be the same people who don't mind burnt out light bulbs, peeling and fading paint, broken effects, overall mediocrity.

A guy in a had hat could ask me to move so they could remove the hat while I was shopping there and I would not be the slightest bit upset.

I don't think it really matter if it goes or stays. Nothing will change... everyone will still be complaining about something and unhappy with the results.

I love the hat!! It's Disney World, whose biggest star is Mickey Mouse!!
I would be heartbroken if they took the hat away!!
I also think that the purest joy when visiting Disney is in children's faces, and the gigantic sorcerer's hat really relates to them-none of them would even know what the Chinese Theatre was!!
So I hope the hat stays!!

Well I'd be heartbroken if the hat stayed.... one of us is going to be heartbroken.

Biggest problem with the hat, like the wand before it, is that it was an addition tied to a year-long celebration...and it stayed for 10 years (and counting). As out-of-place as the hat looked, I didn't mind it when it first appeared. It was eye-catching and tied into the celebration that year, at least marginally. Same with the wand. For a year, it was a interesting to see something different, acknowleding the celebration going on all over the park. But then it wouldn't go away.

Disney should have learned its lesson with the castle cake for the 25th anniversary. Keep the temporary icon changes...temporary. The people who like them will smile, take lots of pictures. The people who don't like them can live the change for a year.

The sorcerer's hat is from Fantasia, which most children haven't seen. And the hat itself looks cheap and out of place, which is off-putting to adults. I think it would be better overall for the hat to go, restoring the area to its former Hollywood Golden Age atmosphere. Hollywood and Sunset Boulevard have an amazing atmosphere, among my favorite of all the parks. But I think the hat really throws a huge wrench in that.

While some children may not have seen "Fantasia," I'm sure they are familiar with the hat. After all, Mickey does do meet-and-greets while wearing the hat in the Animation Building, and he wears the hat during the end of "Fantasmic," and the hat plays an integral part in "Mickey's Philharmagic." I'm sure many more kids are familiar with the hat than they are Grauman's Chinese Theatre!

I agree...all of this is just opinions!! Even after seeing the two pictures, I still love the hat!! If I wanted to be in Hollywood, I would go to Hollywood. I like Disney's version of Hollywood.
I grew up going to Disney, but did not go during the "college" years. I had never seen DHS without the hat, so until two years ago, I never knew the hat was not always there. But now, after seeing the pictures, I still love the hat. Other people do not...that's great!! There are many things about Disney that appeal to some and not others!! That's why it appeals to so many!!
I originally posted that I like the reference to Sorcerer Mickey, and that children enjoy the hat. Not all children are familiar with Fantasia, but most children are familiar with Sorcerer Mickey-from Fantasmic, merchandising, and the hat!! How many children are walking around WDW right now with the sorcerer hat on? And it's not from Fantasia, it's from DHS!!
It may be commercialism, but Disney is commercial!! So many rides you exit have a shop to go along with it...but that's fine with me!! Disney's rides, shows, and products all have a whimsical, magical quality to me.
I understand that some great Disney fans find the hat misplaced, but for my family and I, we have our picture taken in front of it every year!!

I completely agree!!! I was suprised when I joined this website how many people were Complaining about EVERYTHING!!! I thought this website was to talk about how wonderful WDW was! I love WDW AND the hat and I would be very disapointed if the hat left!

So what if kids are more familiar with it? The parks should be more than just a repetition of things that people already know. There should be new "Disney" things introduced at the parks, just like kids are introduced to new "Disney" things in a movie theater or on the Disney Channel.

You`ll find a lot of older members who remember when everything did seem wonderful, before cuts began to bite in the mid 90's.

People don`t complain about everything. Far from it. They care because they love the place so much. They also hold the company and the resort to the higher standard it once held itself to.

Martin is correct. I myself didn't go to the parks until probably the late 90s, but even I can see why the parks (in particular WDW) have stopped holding themselves up to that high standard that kept the older members coming back for more.

The hat looks wonderful where it is. It does not look cheap and always reminds me of Fantasia and is very much a part of what the studios was all about. Honestly if you want to see Hollywood you need to see it in person in California. I am in no way being disrespectful to you. If you take that way or I come off that then I do apologize. The hat to me does not throw a big monkey wrench as you say into it. To me the Hat says welcome to Disney, come on let's play

Another vote for the BAH to be moved, or just thrown out. Either way will work for me. Speaking of BAH, did any one see the LAH on My yard goes disney. That family must REALLY love the hat.

I don't think the hat should be removed completely, just moved to somewhere else as it does truly destroy that fantastic view that you once had.

I think we need to watch the development of DHS. The idea that started the park has been slowly moving toward embracing Disney/Pixar movies and films as the center of the park's attractions along with the Star Wars themeing....why maybe the hat is not in a great spot it is a significant piece of Disney animation history and that needs to be embraced in our parks. You might want to ask the question does the Chinese theatre really fit into the future vision for DHS. I am not sure that is only a question the imagineers can answer. If they add a cars land and the monster inc coaster for the 25th anniversary, I think we might have our answer.

I know I'm in the minority, but I love the hat, love the fact that it provides a symbol for the park and I feel the park would look awful without it....

I like it, but I feel like it needs to be moved up towards the top of the giant HM. That way, it'd still be in the middle of the park, but not directly in front of the theater, it wouldn't obstruct the view of the theater (as much) and it would look like the giant HM was wearing the sorcerer's hat.

With that logic, you would also be in favor of tearing down Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom, because if you want to see a castle, you should just to Europe so you can see a real one in person.

The entrance to Disney's Hollywood Studios is themed as golden era Hollywood, which hasn't existed in California in 70 years. So, you can't simply go to California to see it in person...unless you are talking about at Disney California Adventure, which doesn't count. The hat doesn't belong in a 1930s Hollywood themed section. You can like the hat...that is ok...but it doesn't belong where it is. I personally dislike the hat, mostly because of it's location and cheap look. Move it to outside the gate, or the animation courtyard, or somewhere else in DHS...just not infront of the Theater.
