well ive never been to epcot so idk what the thing is called and I grew up with my family members calling it " huge ball thing "

And I'm really really happy I wasn't enjoying a tasty beverage when I read the "Chinese Theater should be an icon in China!" quote or I would have sprayed my monitor with said beverage. :ROFLOL:

The hat was originally built in 2001 for the 100 Years of Magic Celebration. According to a conversation I had with Tom Wolber at the time (he was then the VP of the Studios), it was going to be built based on the assumption it would need to stand for 10-11 years.

And for everyone here saying it gives the park an "icon" don't forget that the Chinese Theater did that too. And, in my opinion, it did so in a much more unique and thematic way than an out-of-place hat that just dropped there. That whole area has an "old Hollywood" feeling. Why's there a big hat there? Made much more sense that there'd be a grand, legendary theater at the end.

Some have tried to say it is a "Disneyfied" take on California Crazy architecture which is represented by Gertie's Ice Cream of Extinction. I find such arguments be lacking as the materiality of the structure is not appropriate for it to fit such a description.

  1. Monsters Inc. Coaster added
  2. Tram Tour Major Rehab/Rethink/Retheme
  3. World of Color clone replacing Fantasmic!
  4. The two spinner rides from Cars Land added
  5. Radiator Springs Racers from Cars Land added
  6. A clone of Cars Land in it entirety added
  7. Indiana Jones Adventure replacing Indy Stunt Show
Oh, and The Hat? That's been a removal rumor for several years. It comes and goes every year, like the autumn leaves. I'll believe The Hat is going only when the bulldozer operators take their second coffee break of the day and the thing is sitting in a thousand pieces. :lol:

Don't be rude. I've been going to Disney since I was a young kid, well before Epcot had it's wand and Hollywood Studios was still MGM Studios. I appreciate the history of the park but there's nothing wrong with enjoying the fun and quirkiness of the hat. It makes me smile and reminds me of memories from past trips.

Keep the Hat... Lose and replace the OLD TIRED shows.

The Hat doesn't bother me... it blocks that ugly theater anyway.:lookaroun

Anyway I would argue which is more of a Hollywood ICON... the Hollywood sign or the Gruman's Chinese Theater. I would think more people(not crazy Disney fans) recognize the sign then the theater..
