DHS 25th Anniversary Rumors... Hat Removed?

What I think doesn`t matter. More and more of the right people in TDO, Glendale and Burbank don't like it either. That is why there are plans in place to move it.

Take your photo in a decade and it`ll look different to today.

I really hope you're right. And I really hope it happens sooner rather than later!

It's in several movies, "Singin' in the Rain" being the most important. It's where the "Wizard of Oz" premiered. An entire episode of "I Love Lucy" was devoted to her antics with John Wayne's cement block; in fact, it's the only Hollywood location with handprints and footprints. It's next door to the Kodak Theater and across the street from the El Capitan.

Don't forget the end of Blazing Saddles!

And to be honest here... you're not making much sense. First of all... what is a huge ball thing? I only know SSE. Second of all, even though the Chinese Theater isn't in a movie.. it's like the grandfather to all theaters around the globe. It deserves some recognition at this park. And last but not least, the actual Chinese Theater is located in California. Not China.

well ive never been to epcot so idk what the thing is called and I grew up with my family members calling it " huge ball thing "

Okay, think about it epcot has SSE magic kingdom has the castle and animal kingdom has the tree of life. Now without the hat its gonna be as boring as universal studios. i didnt care about the chinese theater when i was a kid and i still dont. the hat is an icon which every park has. dont say the hat doesnt fit the park cause the park is about movies and was the sorcerers hat in a movie ? yea i think so and i would rather them take away the chinese theater and i dont remember that being in a movie.

ohhh and this isnt that importANT but just to say , yesterday i bought i keychain with the castle, the hat, the tree, and the SSE on it now wats it gonna look like without the hat. dont make the chinese theater an icon. Hello!! we live in america make the chinese theater an icon in china!

Our American education system at work!

Either that or the "Big Golf Ball".

And I'm really really happy I wasn't enjoying a tasty beverage when I read the "Chinese Theater should be an icon in China!" quote or I would have sprayed my monitor with said beverage. :ROFLOL:

The hat was originally built in 2001 for the 100 Years of Magic Celebration. According to a conversation I had with Tom Wolber at the time (he was then the VP of the Studios), it was going to be built based on the assumption it would need to stand for 10-11 years.

And for everyone here saying it gives the park an "icon" don't forget that the Chinese Theater did that too. And, in my opinion, it did so in a much more unique and thematic way than an out-of-place hat that just dropped there. That whole area has an "old Hollywood" feeling. Why's there a big hat there? Made much more sense that there'd be a grand, legendary theater at the end.

Some have tried to say it is a "Disneyfied" take on California Crazy architecture which is represented by Gertie's Ice Cream of Extinction. I find such arguments be lacking as the materiality of the structure is not appropriate for it to fit such a description.

I think those "high profile attractions" on the "verge of getting approved and built" are really just wishful thinking by fans. That this is Screamscape saying it makes it even more comical. I'm sure there's plenty of proposals by WDI to do any number of things with DHS, but it's clear that TDO isn't in the mood to spend much money on anything until after FLE is done. If they even want to spend big after that, instead of just taking a year or two off and maybe getting around to another something in 2014 or '15.

Correct me if I'm wrong or have forgotten something, but the list of "potential high profile attractions" rumored for DHS over the last few years goes something like this, mostly dreamed up and contemplated by fans on message boards, in order of probability of ever seeing the light of day from most probable to least probable;

  1. Monsters Inc. Coaster added
  2. Tram Tour Major Rehab/Rethink/Retheme
  3. World of Color clone replacing Fantasmic!
  4. The two spinner rides from Cars Land added
  5. Radiator Springs Racers from Cars Land added
  6. A clone of Cars Land in it entirety added
  7. Indiana Jones Adventure replacing Indy Stunt Show
Oh, and The Hat? That's been a removal rumor for several years. It comes and goes every year, like the autumn leaves. I'll believe The Hat is going only when the bulldozer operators take their second coffee break of the day and the thing is sitting in a thousand pieces.
love the angle you are coming from

Remove that blemish already. At once, the guest is magically transported from the 'Hollywood that never was and always will be', to the world of crass entertainment and in-yer-face-commercialism.

Somebody should post this everytime someone defends the monstrosity. Worst addition to a Disney park ever.

So the Value Resorts are the be-all, end-all of "Disney theming"? Plopping giant props and characters around instead of trying to put you into another setting?

Don't be rude. I've been going to Disney since I was a young kid, well before Epcot had it's wand and Hollywood Studios was still MGM Studios. I appreciate the history of the park but there's nothing wrong with enjoying the fun and quirkiness of the hat. It makes me smile and reminds me of memories from past trips.

Keep the Hat... Lose and replace the OLD TIRED shows.

The Hat doesn't bother me... it blocks that ugly theater anyway.:lookaroun

Anyway I would argue which is more of a Hollywood ICON... the Hollywood sign or the Gruman's Chinese Theater. I would think more people(not crazy Disney fans) recognize the sign then the theater..
