I don't know if I want a SSE update. The concept art for the one they had planned most recently looks like a scenery downgrade, reduced the animatronic population (again) and relied much more heavily on projection at the expense of physical detail. Not to mention there were concerns they were attempting to shoehorn in a Moana connection. Aside from fixing the descent and giving the ride a new narration (and even the narration could easily be a downgrade from what is currently there), I don't trust them with it.

The current prevailing rumor is that the Pecos Bills corner is being considered for a New Orleans makeover at some point in the future. Including turning Pecos Bills into Tiana's Palace. Whether it actually happens, and when, I don't know. Seems like Bayou Adventure will open first either way.
Yeah, I have seen those rumors and im not wild about them! But that pathway to Adventureland is weak and could use some love. So I’m speaking that into existence LOL

Are you joking?! I have never heard this. My gosh, and there's already Moana fatigue among some in the fanbase. Hopefully everyone can agree this would have been an awful decision.
Board your time boat to learn about how Maui brought about all of humanity’s societal and cultural advancements.

Seriously, though, they were supposed to add some kind of “storylight” effect that would run throughout the ride. The concept art looked a bit like Moana’s dead Grandma.

It seemed to me the proposal was more along the lines of having a couple background cameos, akin to what was done with IASW in Disneyland. I doubt it was exclusively Moana; that doesn’t make much sense. I assumed the descent would also be repurposed to tie into the “storytelling” theme and that, interspersed among flashes of the continued tradition of storytelling would be some Disney things. The refresh looked too light to change things significantly.

As for Moana fatigue, I don’t quite understand it. I get that she keeps cropping up in proposals, but as far as what has actually been built, her presence is far more minimal than that of other characters. People probably need to separate what might happen from what actually has happened on that front.

Imagination on the other hand I legitimately don't think can get any worse at this point. It is painful and unpleasant to ride and I avoid doing so. I think it's the worse dark ride they've ever built by far, both versions 2 and 3 (yes far worse even than Superstar Limo). Even shutting the ride down and leaving it empty wouldn't make me care. So they can fiddle with it, they can only really create something just as bad. But at least there's a chance it'll turn out better than it is now.
I agree,,,yet I dont think they plan on doing anything at all with imagination anytime soon....SE on the other hand cant keep going in its current state too much longer, they know it needs addressing and work. And is way overdue at this point. But knowing how inept they are now they will keep the thing running till something happens or it just breaks and then stays closed. However being the parks centerpiece attraction and at the entrance I would hope they would have the common sense to know that's not going to fly. Last that was heard was that team that came up with that projection heavy downgrade story light nonsense was let go. I say leave it, but do a new narration, new descent, all the mechanical work that is needed, and update/freshen the current scenes without changing them. I dont trust them either, especially if gets in the hands of a certain imagineer.

The descent actually sounded timeless and I do remember seeing an outline that said that a lot of the ascent was untouched (not sure what was up with the stingray), not a fan about how the last few scenes prior to it were "look at how great Disney is," but it desperately needs an update. If I were in charge, I would swap another narrator, keep the focus on communication and drop the storytelling crap. Imagination also needs a rework, but that's not happening either (though I do find it weird that they're using figment a lot outside the parks these days), nor am I expecting anything concrete from Destination D, at most a couple dates for previously announced things and a piece of concept art or two, but knowing the 2021 one, it will be even less than that.

It’s not a matter of should it get an update. The ride system inside spaceship earth simply is not going to work as intended much longer. It’s old and needs to go, I guess that means I’m in full support of a major update.

For SSE, fix the ride system, keep the basic ride. If you want a new script with the same scenes, cool. Redo the descent to something more interesting/up to date, great. Change the premise of the ride and change all the scenes? Please no.

I'm extremely fearful as to what we will get if modern Disney tries to "modernize" SSE. There's virtually no chance it will be anywhere near as awesome.

I agree with this, though if we keep the premise they can probably spruce up the existing scenes with new technology.

Could mean nothing but Disney Parks Blog has stated:

“During this year’s biggest Disney fan event, Destination D23, we’ll be sharing a series of Disney Parks updates from around the world you won’t want to miss. But before this weekend’s event at Walt Disney World, we’re starting the party early and inviting you to join us on the road to Destination D23 as we roll out a few special surprises here on the Disney Parks Blog!

We’ll cap the week on Saturday with A Celebration of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow featuring Josh D’Amaro, special guests, and a fun-filled show that’s sure to entertain as we celebrate with our biggest fans. For fans not attending Destination D23, the presentation will be livestreamed on the D23 YouTube page, the Disney Parks Blog and Disney Parks social channels.”

This event is seeming to me more and more likely to get something of substance. They seem to be hyping this up more then usual. Again could mean nothing but it’s worth noting.

Agree. The entire back half of the ride was never finished. They tacked sheets up and called it a day. It needs love bad.

Please please please please PLEASE let them
announce a light parade! Yes I know I’m going to end up being very disappointed when, yet again, nothing gets mentioned.
