When it comes to the local Orlando media outlets and the way they present a story; many of us who live in Orlando know that some will use phrases or words which hype a story (for their own commercial purposes) more than others. They will use terms in a 'tease' that sensationalize the story more than another. I think every market in the country has at least one local station or newspaper you can say that of.
The challenge is that when someone from another market sees or reads that report they don't have the proper context to temper their view of how the story is written based on how that particular media outlet reports. Many people locally have a similar view that channel 6 is among the worst at sensationalizing stories; and that's our opinion based on our experience with them. Others will disagree with us, which is why there are multiple media outlets for us to choose from.
As frustrating as I often find it to be, 'any' report about anything with the word Disney in it gets eyeballs for the Orlando media outlets. The event or report doesn't even need to have anything to do with Disney; there was a robbery recently that happened 'near Disney'. It's kind of nuts, but is what it is. If the media didn't report on these sort of things, they'd get slammed for 'covering up' for Disney which isn't what anyone wants either.
The bottom line 'in my opinion' is that these things are and should be reported by local media. However, they should not be used to improve the ratings of a media outlet by choosing words in the story which sensationalize it to a scale inappropriate to the actual event. That is even more important when the event involves a loss of life which is unfortunate no matter where it happens.
