DCL Picture Of The Day

Yes, I agree. I actually didn't leave the Dream when we docked. I had been keeping tabs on the crime in Nassau before I left and there had been 11 murders in as many days. I am sure nothing would have happened to me, but it does look a bit dodgy from the boat. I thought about going to walk around the town for a bit, but I was traveling alone. Besides, it was much more fun to stay in the Adult Only area of the Dream.

I also didn't realize that HMBS was in active use, I thought it was a tourist attraction!

I got off of Enchantment for a couple hours there in October mainly to eat at Mr Amphibian's and poke around shops. The bustling areas with tourists were not all too creepy but heading back to the boat (which was beside Magic and I should probably post photos here) we walked down a road (eastern side of the dock) and this shady looking dude offered to sell me roofies! The lady and I hauled butt very quickly to the butt. In some 13 days I will be there on Dream and heeding the advice of @WDW1974 @sweetpee_1993 and Disney Falcon with staying on the boat with how much is offered. Other than getting off to buy booze!

Definitely post your photos here! That's crazy about the guy dealing Roofies, wow. Will your upcoming DCL cruise be your first one? If so, definitely stay on the Dream, because there is so much to explore and do. :)

First Disney cruise. Second cruise ever with the first being just over two months ago. I will have to around to uploaded them. Lord knows I took more of Magic than anything else on that trip.

Pulled this off of the internet. Some quick facts:

1) Magic and Wonder used to to be serviced at BAE shipyard in Hampton Roads.

2) It is right off of a major interstate as well as several parks where it was viewable in dock and also coming/going.

3) The yard that DCL had a contract with holds many contracts with the US Navy.

4) Watching it go past the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel was a one of a kind sight that cannot be replicated. Same goes for Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel

5) The dry dock it is in is actually a floating dry dock

Nassau isn't a place where you are going to be murdered or assaulted. But it isn't a place with much of anything worth seeing beyond Atlantis. Most of the Bahamas, even Freeport, are much nicer. Personally, it's a fine place to stop on a first or second cruise, but, after that, well ... you should have no desire to ever return. I won't do a cruise there.

As to your experience being offered drugs, well, that is simply common of many places. You are an American. You are abroad. The view, not entirely incorrect, is that if you can travel abroad as an American you have wealth and you also probably have some desire to obtain things that are not so easy to get in the USA. I have been approached in places from Curacao to Lisbon by folks wanting to sell me everything from pot to cocaine. It's no big deal. They aren't going to harm you. A simple NO or gesture and walking away tells them all they need to know. And they aren't interested in you if you aren't interested in what they're selling. I know this may scare some sheltered Americans, but it is no big deal. ... On the other side, you can walk into pharmacies almost anywhere in the Caribbean, Mexico and many European countries with a prescription (legal of course, but it could be 18 months old with no refills) from back home and they'll sell you a large supply (usually three months of what you may be taking, controlled or not) and not ask for any paperwork. Totally legal. :)

Now ... as for you, yeah, I'd be staying onboard and enjoying the Dream.

That's my plan for the next Nassau day, too! The only reason I got off the boat this last time was to meet friends for lunch.

I might do Atlantis - maybe.

I have found 3 things I want to see in Nassau: rum distillery tour, chocolate factory, and rum cake factory. Didn't get to do any of these last month because our Nassau port was cancelled due to crazy seas. I'm finding Nassau things that I wish to see!

I wanted to do the chocolate factory tour, too, but I felt really washed out on that cruise. I just didn't like what I saw when I looked out onto the town. It looked like a run-down tourist trap. But, yeah, that rum distillery tour sounds kind of fun, too. ;)
