fair enough and i wasnt questioning your need and as i said .. everyone is different. I just know plenty of people always question others who use DAS and granted a guest truly dk if you are using DFAS or FP/genie now a CM can and i will say there are times you definitely get the look when i would go up for a return time in the past bc my conditions are not as obvious as others...
FTR, I know you weren’t questioning our need, I was just demonstrating why medical personnel asking the questions isn’t the solution it’s being thought to be.

People may look at us and give us looks as it isn’t always obvious for Dd either. That’s their problem, not hers. And I’d prefer to teach her that, rather than teach her it’s her responsibility to provide private information no one else is required to provide to avoid that.

not sure how that has anything to do with my response to your statement which was 100% inaccurate based on my countless experiences and what ive been told. do you have DAS? is that what they did with you? because ive been using it for about 10 years now and not once have they cared about prior usage and the process was the same each time applying both in person and now both times on the video chat....

I do have DAS. And each time I’ve used it after the first time I’ve started to explain and I’ve been stopped once they’ve pulled up my ID, and I’ve been told I’m already on file and I’m good to go and to just ask to renew next time.

Your experience can be 100% accurate for you. But that doesn’t make them 100% accurate for everyone.

I totally agree... i was just trying to come up with a solution which honestly there probably never will be... Maybe im naive but i dont think the people who are using DAS who should be is as high as people think. Do i think it was embarrassing and absurd people were literally "renting" handicap people to use the system years ago 100% & wouldnt be shocked if it still happens to a degree but for most part i think the ones using it have legit concerns etc....

I stand corrected because every time ive mentioned i already had in years past 1st thing im asked has it been within 60 days... if not i must go thru process again about my concerns etc. I even called the hotline last week before i did the video chat and asked that specific question and was told it doesnt matter i must re apply... Glad that you didnt have to deal with it but as i said earlier the process was seamless this time around it wasnt terrible at all.....

If they don’t change Genie+ I wouldn’t doubt you’ll see similar issues as years ago with GAC.

1 in 5 American adults has a disability..20% of all adults.

As I recall from recent advocacy I was working on there are something like 7 million students ages 3-21 who qualify for IDEA services.

Yes, it was insulting when people were renting GAC holders to tour the parks. But I agree that I think most people using DaS currently have a legitimate need for it.

Honestly also as ive stated even tho i have DAS and even tho i despised Genie in November i still purchased it for my upcoming trip.... I felt DAS w genie was less useful than when FP was around and seemed that most of my selections honestly were via FP anyways not DAS... No perfect system unfortunately

They already kinda do this. They don’t want to go through the process every time with you, either. After your first time qualifying, subsequent visits you are supposed to tell them you want to renew your DAS not get a DAS.

Yeah, that makes me wonder why they even have the 60 day limit in the first place. If the reason for the 60 day limit is that circumstances might change and you might not need the accommodation if you get healed, then why do you just get to keep saying "I want to renew?" It seems to me that they could just give you 365 days instead of 60 days.

Being someone who uses DAS just got approved & booked my rides this week. Shocked process took less than an hour all in what a contrast from last year… as ive stated prior issue i had in November was bc Genie was awful & lines were long we spent way too much time basically waiting for our window to open up via Genie or DAS. This never happened with FP+ ever. Even if it mean filling some spots w any rides just to do something as we enjoy riding everything & not a fan of people watching. So yes DAS helps but when return times are 60-90 minutes out min at times its not some system that allows you free run of the park. Genie being limited to only 1 ride per attraction & truly limited capacity vs FP definitely made my November trip
Worse than past ones. We shall see what August brings in less than a month.
I'll be interested to hear differences. I've only been where free for all pre buy Genie+ was there. Return times were often when I knew I'd need rest so I didn't buy.
Crazy you got through so fast too! Even April it took me a few hours off and on.

I find in person is how you stated. Online they ask in my experience exactly like the first time even if I just say I'm renewing. At least 3 of 3 trips this year. Even when I had DAS active but it would expire before arrival. YMMV of course

I was shocked was online at 7am in the chat someone picked up and the video chat started & ended by i think 725 he told me i can book rides same day clicked on other link and was done by 755 for an 11 day trip.... im still in shock lol....
My DAS experience in the chat this year and last seemed to be more "invasive" last year the woman digging and questioning and thats when i simply told her what my issues were etc... this year i kinda just went to the point of what got me "approved" last year... in the past at city hall i would bring documents etc and honestly the only question i was ever asked was who was in my party that needs to be added... literally didnt even ask what my concerns were same with my Mom in person. when she has went and applied...

My last experience was actually May (I got which was 30 or 60 days mixed) but it felt no different than Oct or Feb for me. I even started with renewing and said as much in chat too. I have key words I use to describe and have it short and sweet. In person my first time was rough but I think some of that was an ESL CM from Norway not grasping the terms I used. (Obviously not judging that, but my ESL family often hoses up medical terms too). No renewal in person was more than me just saying I was and if I needed a new pic or not. Renewal online was still questions which is okay.

But gosh I wish it lasted a year!

My video in May started good, and was out of chat in 40 mins or so. The next part was awful and kept getting tossed out of chat. Wound up taking 3 days to do it all. I might not bother doing every day again because we tossed 2 or 3 anyway.

That was my experience in November. Took me 3 days to get into the chat and another 3 days for booking. Total sh*tshOw. Whether i was lucky or if this was the new norm who knows but agreed. 60 days is useless but i will say this. Hershey has the same policy i believe. So there may be a reason why? I truly dk. I recall last year going in the summer and then again in Early December i believe and had to fill out forma again.

There are few places I go regularly that this affects me so I cannot compare. I suppose I wish as an AP holder it would last longer but oh well. Maybe some things are temporary and they don't want to guess who is?

that would be my guess but this goes back to me suggesting willing to disclose... like hey disney this is my condition its a lifelong one im willing to disclose etc to avoid this daily procedure... at least give that option & those who fall into this category can have that option if they so wish to do so

I'd love to do a more in depth verification to prove that to keep me from re-upping. But truly I'm grateful for the service. Also at home where I can do as I need is easier than dealing with lines and such. So won't complain too much

My child has a medical disability - multiple actually - and yes, I would absolutely have a problem with being required to disclose medical diagnoses in order to receive accommodations. It’s dehumanizing. I have no problem disclosing that she requires accommodations and what those accommodations are. But medical information should not be required.

ETA: quite frankly it’s attitudes similar to this that make families like mine - where there is a legitimate need, but it can be “invisible” - feel entirely self-conscious about asking for and using the accommodations we require. And no, requirement of doctor’s certification doesn’t ameliorate that - it exacerbates that. It may not make sense, but we have absolutely experienced that. Disabled people have the same right to medical privacy as neurotypical people.

I did not say they had to list the specific diagnosis, but my family is in a similar situation and we would have no problem whatsoever having some sort of doctor's certification for this stating what is needed. Lord knows, we have 100's of 100's of sheets of documentation that are required every year for schooling, insurance, and everything else, so it seems like a really simple solution to preventing abuse but still giving people what they need.

We would very much prefer it, in fact, because then there are no questions, suspicious looks, etc. - it is what it is. They know we aren't people just trying to get an advantage in line, but have an actual need. And we wouldn't have to depend on a Disney employee to decide if we are "worthy" or not. It would be a one-time thing, it's not like anyone would have to show doctors notes at every ride, etc. It seems like a much, much simpler way to get everyone what they require and prevent the abuses that happened, and left us with the restricted system we have today.

Oh trust me. Not complaining at all. Just spitballing ideas on how to potentially improve processes…

Funny how you say do it from your home. Just how i felt about FP lol. Can do it at your own convenience on your comfy couch as opposed to a mad dash now at 7am. But thats a separate thread lol ;)

I really dislike any real advanced planning so neither was well loved. I did swap around FP+ more easily though.

With DAS now absolutely having a monetary value. In the HUNDREDS of dollars a day, they will have to do something soon, I suspect.

I hear what you are saying, truly, but ime this doesn’t solve the questions/suspicious looks, etc. we have a disabled placard for the car - which does require physician signature - and it doesn’t stop the suspicious looks there. So I have significant doubts it would ever do the same for Disney.
