Well the USA is much farther away from the Artic than the UK. You guys are more in the same region as Canada.
I don’t mean that air conditioners are too widely used (though one might argue that they are). I mean that they’re overworked, very often pumping out much more cold air than necessary. There’s something very strange about going into a shop or restaurant on a baking-hot summer’s day to find the place so cold that you have to put a jacket on.
For me, cold AC keeps me awake, heat or little working AC makes me tired. Also one cast member told me at DHS Star Tours the AC is running cold so the animatronics would not malfunction.
Opposite for me. My Loop office literally becomes a freezer at like 3 PM and I struggle to stay awake. The on tap cold brew doesn't help

In many areas where heat and humidity is rampant, like Florida, buildings will keep temps much cooler to prevent mold growth. Outside of the south, you'll often find restaurants kept cooler to increase appetites and therefor orders.
I generally find AC temperatures at WDW pleasant, so I don’t buy the idea that you have to keep somewhere cold as a fridge to stop mould growing in the South.
You are unique then. It works the other way around for most people. Colder conditions make it more ideal to get better sleep too (assuming you're not actually freezing with no cover)
Mold likes moisture. You want to dehumidify, not just cool. This is where you get into the differences between wet bulb and dry bulb temperations, and “real feels”. In a hot and humid environment, going into a very dry environment is going to feel like you are going into a colder environment. You can feel this at Antrtica at SeaWorld Orlando where the first room you enter, which feels really cold, is actually really dry. The temperature drop occurs later after that first room. Just running air conditioning at a lower temperature is emblematic of the rather singular nature in which Americans deal with heating and cooling, building a box and crank up the machines.
My guess is that kids are out of school for the summer. Still, people should know ahead of time it's going to be hotter than hell in July and August. This is common knowledge.
For families in the South they can be acclimated to heat and humidity. For families up North visiting FL in this time it can be very uncomfortable.

Good for you! Our compressor got all Chapeked and now we're waiting for a new system to get here for an install this week.
We actually went through that three years ago. Our compressor died and had to get it replaced. That’s why I was freaking out when it stopped working on Tuesday.
This heat is so intense. Why anyone would be out by the pool, beach or even at WDW is risking getting a heatstroke. Hydrate, hydrate..
