From Stitch Kingdom:

D23 members and up to three guests each are invited to attend this year’s Disney D23 Magic & Merriment event at the Walt Disney World Resort from December 10 – 12, 2010.
The festivities will kick off at 9 pm ET on Friday, December 10 as guests congregate at One Man’s Dream at Disney’s Hollywood Studios to enjoy a private screening of Archiving the Archives, a new documentary celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Walt Disney Archives.
On Saturday morning, December 11, you’ll enjoy hot holiday cider, flavored coffees and scrumptious Christmas Stollen inside the Odyssey Center at Epcot, where guests will be greeted by members of the D23 Team and some holiday surprises. Walt Disney World President Meg Crofton will be on hand to welcome guests and share some stories of the magic of the Resort at the most happiest time of the year. Chefs Erich Herbitschek and Stefan Reimer return to Magic & Merriment for another hilarious — and delicious! — baking demonstration sure to tempt your taste buds. You’ll then be invited to spend the afternoon enjoying the holiday splendor of Epcot at your own pace before re-joining the group at the America Gardens Theatre as the sun begins to set.
As you nestle into your reserved seat, sit back, snuggle up and delight in the warm embrace of Walt Disney World’s perennial Christmas favorite, Candlelight Processional. This time-honored tradition of classic carols and hymns sung by a choir of hundreds will be narrated by Disney and ABC star Whoopi Goldberg (The View, The Lion King). Following this special performance, you will be transported to Disney’s Hollywood Studios for a sumptuous holiday feast on the incredible set of the Indiana Jones™ Epic Stunt Spectacular. After the park closes, you’ll head over to New York Street for a private viewing of The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights during a special presentation hosted by Walt Disney Entertainment’s John Phelan.
Sunday morning you will wake up to mix and mingle over brunch at the stunning Top of the World Lounge high above Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. The Lounge, which offers a spectacular view of the Magic Kingdom Park, is usually reserved for Disney Vacation Club Members staying at Bay Lake Tower, but our friends at the Disney Vacation Club are opening it up just for you. Enjoy an inside look at this breathtaking building and even tour a Grand Villa, one of the most stunning suites at the Walt Disney World Resort!
After brunch, D23 Members will enjoy a very “suite” treat — exclusive tours of the stunning Dream Suite inside Cinderella Castle, high above Fantasyland. The suite is not open to the general public, so this will truly be a magical moment.
Come nightfall, celebrate together at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and relax at D23’s private hospitality lounge on board the Liberty Belle steamboat for holiday treats, cocoa and cider. You’ll also enjoy reserved viewing of Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Parade and the holiday fireworks extravaganza — Holiday Wishes: Celebrate the Spirit of the Season. And, of course, it wouldn’t be a D23 event without a few seasonal surprises to commemorate the weekend! Happy holidays from your friends at D23!
Included with the cost of your ticket: (note park admission is required and not included)
  • Holiday cider, coffee and Christmas Stollen at the Odyssey Center (Saturday)

Sounds like a nice weekend. Being a D23 member, this is the first I've heard of it. Hmmmm....... The WDW site says there are NO rooms available that weekend. Must be a glitch in the system again.

Our next trip down will arrive only 2 or 3 days after this, darn it!

Sounds like just the type of event a D23 member would want to attend.

I'd love to, but I'm already there the previous week for Holiday Hoopla. If they announced these things with more lead time, I might make it.

I'm still waiting for D23 to announce the dates for Destination D. I don't get what takes them so long to announce things, a lot of people need to plan trips around the events.

I am actually going to be in WDW during that time. I miss every important Disney event because I travel a lot and they announce these things too late for me. I was starting to get excited about attending until I saw this

Tickets to the event are $235 per person

Just not feasible for me this year. It sounds like a lot of fun.

As of right now, we're scheduled to leave on December 12th. We just might have to push that back until the 13th. Anyone know how many tickets each D23 member can purchase? My parents will be with us on this trip, and I'd like to be able to buy tickets for them, too.

EDIT: Found it myself--Members may reserve a ticket for themselves and three (3) guests. Heck yeah!

Anyone else get tickets?! See you in December! :)

Last year, it sold out before I could purchase tickets, even though I was refreshing the page every two seconds, starting a few minutes before the tickets went on sale. This year, this same strategy worked, although it looks like it sold out within a few minutes.

I remember reading the thread last year with the details of your 'debacle' in dealing with D23. Good to hear you were able to get tickets this year--see you there!

Assuming this event is as good as all the accounts of it last year, my D23 membership will finally be justifiable.

Yes!! Your $79 annual membership is justified for your ability to pay $40 more for the same event we paid for last year!

Let's break down the cost of this exclusive D23 event to see how much the actual cost is.

Event cost: $235 includes the MVMCP ($59.95)(Park Admission Not Included)
D23 Membership: $79
3 Day Park Hopper Tickets: $278 (Needed to enter the parks for the event)

Total cost for this exclusive event before taxes is $592 while cost for each additional person is $513. This means unless you have an Annual Pass the cost before taxes for two people is over $1000.

I wonder two things:

One: Is there a lifetime D23 membership?

Two: Is it worth it to join D23? I would love to be an official member.

1) Not that I've seen

2) I like the magazine. I literally just joined a few months ago (because my wife told me I'd like the publication) and just received the most recent issue of the mag (I'd love to get my hands on all previous issues, but not at the prices that most fools on eBay want). A tad on the pricey side, at $20/issue, but it's pretty cool. I'm sure our trips will never overlap a D23 event at WDW - especially if they give a whopping 2 months notice - so that part of the membership won't justify itself at all for us.

I didn't get the membership just to attend this one special event. I would say that I've gotten $60 of value out of my membership prior until today. At $74.99 per year, that's only ~$15 worth of value I hadn't received until today.

Even if it does cost $40 more this year, I'm fine with that. It sounded like a great deal last year, and it sounds like the events are possibly slightly better this year.

I'll gladly pay $242.50 ($235 cost of the event plus $7.50/ticket cost of the D23 membership that had previously been unaccounted for) for this event. Every account of it I've read from last year stated it was awesome, and well worth the price. Did you not enjoy it?

Again, you get more with the membership than just the ability to buy tickets for this one event, so it's not quite fair to calculate that as part of the cost.

Further, I wonder how many people attending this actually have to buy tickets to attend? My guess would be that most are Annual Passholders. For BOTH of us, it's less than $500. Considering everything it includes, I anticipate it being excellent value for money.

My D23 membership is worth it to me. I have gotten value out of my membership both years and will renew regardless of whether I make it to a D23 meet or the D23 expo.

If the event was "overpriced" it would not have sold out in less than 10 minutes. You really cannnot blame Disney for charging what they can get for this. The highlight of course is a tour of the Castle Suite. I am not aware of any other way you can purchase entry into the suite at any price.

I'm thrilled we were able to get tickets this year after being shut out last year.
