But "Disney" is counting on park guests' affection for its IPs, because that allows it to create a below-par park attraction and get away with it. That's why we get underwhelming stuff like the Little Mermaid ride and the Pooh ride. They have plastic fish glued to walls and wooden cutouts in them, but hey, it's Ariel and Tigger! Be happy, you peasants!
The "classic" Fantasyland dark rides that all the purists love in Disneyland are mostly wooden cutouts.

The "plussed" version of this would be Runaway Railway.

It's now projections on the faces. Much better. We need more rides like the original Epcot ones with the amount of AAs they had. These new attractions lack a lot of that. We are lucky to get 1 or 2 per ride now. This is what happens when IP trumps how good a ride is. FOP is what every new attraction should strive to be like. The ride is the best part about it as most people don't care about the IP. Expedition Everest is another good example. No IP but the ride is really good.

On the other end you have Remy, people love the IP but the ride isn't very impressive. Same with Frozen, people love it for the IP but the ride really is nothing to write home about.

To many here the IP is more important then having an amazing ride.

Agree. The one thing I can’t stand that every singer seems to do now over the last 20 years.. whether for the star spangled banner..classic Disney songs..etc is the eeeeeaaaaaheee stuff after every line. Just sing the song. If you have a great voice people will know. Is why all these reality singer shows I can’t stomach. All doing the exact same thing.

Thankfully singers of all sorts exists, and ones who riff have found great success.

When she riffed the end of Part of Your World, I was gooped, gagged, and slayed.

She sounds incredible.

I've long contended that the classic rides should be updated. Peter Pan's Flight, for instance. Aside from the queue, it's remained the same for decades. Meanwhile, Shanghai gets a new Pan ride and it's amazing. Great new effects and yet still has the old-fashioned dark ride feel. We in the States will never see that, of course. The Imagineers could do great things with a plussed Pan ride given all the new tech (which didn't exist in the time those "classic" Fantasyland dark rides were built; hence the cut-outs). But "Disney" won't spend the money. Never mind that PPF is incredibly popular, which is probably the only reason it still exists, probably. The suits think that, dated as it is, it's good enough for the rubes, so why spend money on it that could be spent on Marvel or Star Wars?

Expedition Everest is a broken attraction. Has been for decades. "Disney" won't spend the money to fix or replace the Yeti, which is what the ride is supposed to be about. They just put a strobe light on it. EE is the perfect metaphor for what the "Disney" company has become. Don't fix it unless it's absolutely necessary. Proper maintenance and plussing costs money. As long as park guests are in love with Ariel or the ride goes real fast, that's good enough. Meanwhile raise prices to keep the poorer people out of the park. Good god. Face it, the Walt Disney Company a lot of us fell in love with no longer exists. There's no longer anything special about it. There's nothing that sets it apart. Even its wholesome family image has been sullied. It's appalling and heartbreaking. And when the "Disney" suits have the nerve to drag out ol' Walt to try to manipulate Disney lovers, I want to hit something. The suits are contemptuous of him. That's made pretty plain by their actions regarding his parks and his classic movies. Nuts to those scumbags. At this point, I'd rather go to Universal. I hope its Epic Universe deals WDW some real hurt. Makes it have to compete. One can only hope...

Disneyland’s dark rides have all been getting slowly updated. I think they just need to work on Toad and Pinocchio still.

Halle’s voice is angelic and from what I’ve heard so far, her rendition of “Part of Your World” sounds fantastic. The run/riff was the best part.

People complain about Disney remaking the animated films and lacking originality (something I agree with), but then turn around and also complain when a singer puts their own spin on a song.

She sounded incredible and looking stunning.

If I wanted to hear the original rendition, I’d watch the original.

Riffs/runs in songs have been a running joke all the way back to the Randy days on American Idol.

They can sound good, they can sound ridiculous.
