News D23 Expo 2019

If they do respond with significant new WDW announcements, they'll look reactive and behind the market.

Uni's got ahead of them on this one, and there's no getting around it.

There is one, top their announcement to get the full attention. The only thing Uni announced was a name and a conformation, easy to top.

I agree, though one anomaly in the past was that Star Wars Land was announced by Iger at the end of the 2015 studios presentation (since it fit the topic of Star Wars movies) and then Chapek shared some more info about the lands in the parks presentation.

Possibly this secret presentation is a parks thing that gets followed up on with more info in the parks presentation Sunday.

But I still think this is a unique corporatey thing that doesn't fit well in any other bucket.

Except for that the 'secret' has its own follow up panel on Saturday.

There have been a few reports of yet another DVC survey asking about whether members would buy in different areas, including Hong Kong, Tokyo, Breckinridge, Vail, Maui, Oahu, Bahamas, New Hampshire, New York, Lake Tahoe, San Diego and more.

I thought they’d given up on that idea, but maybe not. Another non-WDW possibility.

I'd be all in on a Tahoe and Breck DVC.

Sorry, I meant the secret gets announced Thursday in a press release, more fully revealed Saturday, and then IF it's a parks thing, a few more details can be dropped during the parks panel on Sunday. It probably wouldn't be much, but their Powerpoint slides would be able to say "Look at all these things happening in Parks & Resorts! The 50th! Epcot! The secret thing we talked about yesterday!"

But again, I find it unlikely.

I mean, its possible that its a park and they cover it on Saturday and the Sunday panel is for everything else Parks related. But I don't think its a park either.

Thing is - trying to figure out what else it could be that would be so big as to warrant both an hour long announcement and an hour long follow up is kind of difficult.

It's only easy to top if you actually have the information that would do the job.

Universal announced a name, and showed concept art. Do you really think that Disney would have more up their sleeves than that? It's more than they had for, say, the initial Star Wars Land or Pandora reveals.

Well the announcement itself could be as simple as a twitter post. Like the DL version of Runaway Railway.

In the words of a certain Grand Moff, this bickering is pointless. The arena where Uni and Disney fight over eyeballs is in the DAILY news cycle. Yesterday's battle had Epic Universe in this corner, and the AP preview of DHS Galaxy's Edge in that corner. MAYBE the insertion of the secret presentation into the schedule was part of the news cycle battle, but not the content of the presentation itself.

The decision to build a 5th theme park will have nothing to do with Uni's PR timetable, but rather with market supply/demand, etc. This is definitely impacted by what Uni builds, but not with what Uni posts on social media.

But they blocked out an hour for it on the schedule. I would say that means its an actual presentation.

Right, announce with a brief twitter post on Thursday, follow up with an hour long presentation on Saturday, and then IF parks related, include mention of it with the rest of the parks presentation on Sunday.

I heard about this. Any rumors of land purchases in the US...?

It could also be tied to that ever elusive "regional entertainment" dream (aka, Mineral King, St. Louis's indoor Disneyland, Club Disney, DisneyQuest, etc.).

Maybe DVC + those black box attractions could make it work when earlier attempts failed...
That was my thought...

It has probably been posted somewhere, but a "Secret Walt Disney Company Project" has been announced for D23:

The wording makes me think it'll be park related but I'm probably wrong.
Maybe an insider will chime in and at least say if its parks related or not

I really don't think it is parks related. They probably just haven't fully secured something or someone for a panel yet.

If it was in Hall D23 this would be an entirely different matter, but clearly it's not deemed to be *that* exciting.

A DVC panel would be the only random thing that would maybe be "Parks" related. DVC being a bit more "niche" that most attendees would be a bit uninterested in.
