Not even close. Wdw only has true convention sized spaces at contemporary and at the swan-dolphin. And just ONE of Anaheim’s halls is bigger than the entire swandolphin. Contemporary is the same or smaller. Neither have anywhere near the kind of capacity nor infrastructure for these large industry sized events. They are too small by multiplies... the multi big 5000+ panels plus convention floor space is what makes wdw not a good fit.

Anaheim is one of the biggest convention centers in the country. The only hope for an east coast thing would be the Orlando convention center.

They would never have it there because there's no Disney connection (other than filming a lot of Marvel stuff in the area), but the World Congress Center in Atlanta is MASSIVE. I think it's at least twice as large as the Anaheim convention center.

NBCUniversal doesn't have the brand recognition that Disney has to be honest.
Universal doesnt have enough material or fanbase to support a convention like D23 though.

Right now. You're 100% correct. But I don't think Uni is quite done. New land, new park, - don't forget they bid on Fox too. A lot can happen over the course of a few years/decade. There will be acquisitions made by both companies. TSL underwhelmed. We'll see the response SWGE gets. Uni is not going to throw an expo and draw 100,000. But could they throw one and get 20,000? I think they might be able to.

If they throw one and get 20,000, Disney will welcome them to Central Florida, happily sell them two-day park hoppers at $279 a pop, and then never think about them again.

I'm a massive UO fan and I don't think they would be able to put on enough content for the scope of something like D23 for a LONG time. Because they work with so many IP partners, including Disney, they would also be limited in what they can have and share. I think the HP movie weekend they've done in recent years was solid, but something spanning their entire universe is going to be difficult.
