D23 about to begin. Go on the record with your predictions here.

The Conundrum

New Member
I have already gone on record. Star Tours 2 will be announced it will be the first true e-ticket since Indy in DL. It will be innovative and next gen and include a space battle and pod racing as well as charecters Darth Vader and the two headed dude from TPM. Basically incorporating all 6 films. Captain EO will be returning to Disneyland. New details will be provided on the DCA rennovation including lushous new Little Mermaid and Carsland art and models and some new details about the park. The announcement for Shanghai is ready to go but they may delay it pending on the Chinese governments wishes.

In addition there is a surprise planned for each day's film presentation. Pirates 4 (Friday) and Winnie The Pooh (Sunday) although Lasseter announced it today in London jumping the gun (strange..)

Posted on 9/10 :wave::animwink::p

Oh and before someone starts, EO and Shanghai are still happening their announcements got delayed by external factors that are outside both my and Disney's control. I will post a full report when I get home with my "interview" with the imagineers and a memorable encounter with John Lasseter himsef!

As for why I didnt mention New Fantasyland. I intentionally left it out to leave some sembalance of a surprise (sorry for ignoring you WDWVacationeer!) although you read my final post before this one I tried to tell you indirectly while also giving fresh info on the newest resident of the Haunted Mansion: George, The Hatbox Ghost!

So what's the missing 25%?

Pixie Hollow, which opens a year after the rest of the land. Al Lutz mentioned a Pixie Hollow dark ride opening in DL. Maybe we're getting it too, hence the added year, and the shifting of Pixie Hollow to the back of Fantasyland instead of the middle like in the original leaked plans.

No announcement on Mystery Island, if that's what it will be called, at Disney's Animal Kingdom, but I am very happy to see Toontown going away at the Magic Kingdom and that the renovations to Fantasyland will take place.

Also very happy with the new Star Tours and improved Muppet Vision coming to the Studios park.

I still wish I could have made it to the expo to see some of this stuff. I have the feeling people will be talking about their experiences there for years to come.

They suprised me :) in approving everything we saw in the blueprint. But PH is phase 2 and I think we are going to see even more for FL. It's still in the design stage and there are rumors percolating that more could be added. So the 75% may prove right actually. Don't listen to the spin, this concept is revolutionary in theme park design. In many ways it exceeds even TDS in concept if not in size.

Finally, unlike Con, I made my prediction two weeks ago in another thread and since I have no insider connections I'm rather proud of my prediction.

By the way, I know every little detail that will happen at WDW for the next century but I can't say cause I don't want to spoil the suprise.

Hey if it works for Conundrum, why not me?

An explanation always helps advance the conversation.

The only thing I see that will potentially be "revolutionary" is the new Dumbo "queue".

Mermaid will be a terrific ride, I'm sure of it, but there's nothing truly revolutionary about it.

And yes, the M&G are not your average M&G, but there's nothing mind blowing about them either, IMO.

Whereas TDS is just far and above every park in terms of theming, innovation, an story telling.

I've been to Tokyo DisneySea a few times, and I've seen the New Fantasyland artwork from D23 and have the blueprint saved on my computer from this website. So, I'll bite.

How do you feel the New Fantasyland exceeds DisneySea in concept exactly?

TDS has great theming and I doubt FL will surpass that although it looks close in some cases. But the main thing is the levels of interactivity. I'm certain RFID tech (kim possible-esque) will be a part of it and we have already heard you will be given an electronic device as part of the Dumbo Circus. So while TDS is a step forward in theming, it is only that. Whereas this new FL appears to be a new concept in theme park design. Under the surface it is very forward thinking. Very Epcot.

The expansion looks beautiful based on what we've seen so far, I won't argue with that. But calling it revolutionary and exceeding TDS quality.. that is definitely going overboard  I will wait until everything is built before I give it my ''better than TDS" stamp of approval.

When was the last time a "Phase 2" of a project actually went through at a Disney park? It seems that there's always a Phase 1 expansion that gets watered down, with stuff moving to Phase 2 of the expansion that ultimately never happens.

I didn't say "quality". Nice try. Please read my post again.

Looking at the way they used to do things doesn't help in this case. TWDC is under new management.

Very valid point. I think it was Al Lutz who first spoke about an updated Fantasyland using RFID tags and interactive elements, and it sent these boards into a tizzy at the time. We didn't hear much about the interactivity technology or RFID in the D23 Expo reveal, but I'm sure it's going to be a part of it.

They likely weren't ready to speak openly about their RFID tech initiatives, even though they were pulling the curtain back on New Fantasyland where it appears it will debut, likely for proprietary reasons.

I have no doubt key employees from WDI's competitors at Universal Creative and other design firms were at the D23 Expo for a few hours to check out the huge 75,000 square foot Parks & Resorts Pavilion. WDI had plenty of space in their Tomorrow exhibit rooms in their pavilion to lay out their RFID concepts, but they chose not to. There was also a separate exhibit of about 20,000 sqaure feet in Hall B at D23 Expo, specifically titled Disney Technology Magic, and it had a lot of techno gizmos on display used by Disney divisions. RFID was missing from that D23 exhibit as well. There's a reason for that, and I bet we'll see more info on that as New Fantasyland nears completion.

The 'it's a birthday party so all the kids get to colour a card to present the adult' isn't even considered revolutionary at my childcare centre. Nor is 'all the kids get to learn a play which they then get to perform for an adult'.

The theming, I have little doubt, will be great. TLM I have great expectations of. The meet 'n greets, not so much.

I understand the thought behind it: how can we 'plus' the immersiveness of a child meeting his/her favourite cartoon character. I am not excited about the execution. I do not think anybody is above the age of four, or without children that age.

Yup. Looks like a lot of people on the boards are dead wrong about Al not knowing squat when it comes to WDW!

Thank you  Interesting.
