Curtains Missing and No One Seems to Care?

That is for sure. Time to bring FW into the future. It can be done. Mission Space is a good example. As is Soarin.
There is nothing more futuristic than hang gliding over Yosemite.

And only JT could "hope" for the removal of another FW pavilion to become convention space. You know where convention space belongs? Convention centers. Wanna build a new convention center at Coronado Springs? Go for it. Most would agree that theme parks are appropriate locations for themed attractions and dining. A Future World East with Mission:SPACE and Test Track is laughable.

"It must be very hard for Disney to maintain something as technologically advanced as automatic curtains," says the 1950s.

I enjoy both of them, but for some reason Mission Space has never been a "must do" for me. Same with Soarin'. Or Nemo. And even Test Track doesn't thrill me anymore. Figment and UOE are fairly embarassing and need updates.

I think Future World could be so much more than it is. I know I'm likely alone in that, but it personally gives me very basically nothing to do, even though I like the attractions. None of them to me make me want to ride again and again. Soarin' could depending on the update they get. And believe it or not, I really like Epcot. So it's not that. I think the other three parks have much many more rides that lead you to want to constantly re-ride them. Spaceship Earth gives me that. Test Track used to but ehhh, it's very basic. Mission Space, I dunno, I think they could do better. It's probably time for an update with that one too.

It seems to me that they're in the situation where they should have been updating these rides over the last couple of years and now they're stuck with attractions that pretty much BEG for an update, so instead of spending money over the years, they now face the realization they need to pour a ton of money into them, so that's why I think things aren't getting done. Coupled with them probably not getting much money because it sounds like WDW as a whole is getting punished for the cost of MM+ (not saying we need to get into cost overruns, whether it's true or not but it seems to me that money is being withheld because of how much that cost, whether it went over it's budget or not).

I really think they should consider splitting the park and focus on Future World. Possibly a corporate campus/education center as some have suggested. Many 'outside the box' possibilities.

Does this remind anyone of the old Disney Institute that failed and led Disney to create Saratoga Springs?

There was a time I would have thought any plan to privatize or reconfigure Epcot was bordering on sacrilege. I am over that now. I only give it a very slight chance of happening but it could. Thank Lee for changing my outlook on the possibility.

Disney Institute was entirely different from ideas floated by Eddie Sotto and others that seem more and more reasonable as time passes.

I'm sure people may have noticed, but I've found that major curtains that are essential to the story transitions from small screens to wide screens are missing at Ellen's Energy Adventure and Mickey's Philharmagic. I also noticed that the curtains at the American Adventure are terribly out of sync with the video, completely ruining the effect of turning from drawing to color in one of the first scenes. Anyone know what's up? It seems Disney has been really bad with curtains lately.
Just my opinion. Repairs and maintenance that don't affect the guest's safety or cause the attraction to be inoperable appear to fallen into the "why should we bother to fix it? These people will still pay $100 a day to ride broken attractions" category.

There's rumour and there's rumour.

Personally I'm going with the one using the parking lot expansion pad. You know, the one that doesn't kill a dying park even more.

If and when it ever happens.

Well, here's hoping they boldly choose one direction or the other. Sitting still seems unprofitable.

Wait, wait, wait...
So they run Philharmagic without the curtains? So it's just one big screen for the entire show? Woah... now that's pretty awful. Do they at least pull down the front of the 'fake stage' at the start?

Things like this are why I have a hard time recommending WDW to any newbies anymore. They don't have the nostalgia or anything else to go on, just very high expectations. What must people dropping down loads of cash on premium theme park prices think when they experience an attraction that is already very outdated (both content and show-tech wise), and then they can't even bother to keep something as simple as curtains operating correctly?

We need a bit of context to understand the situation Disney is in here. With the record low crowds lately and continuously lowering of ticket prices Disney just can't afford to keep the curtains. They're just too expensive. Would you rather have a bankrupt closed park or a park with no curtains? Oh wait...
