Never ceases to amaze me how an entire state that would be most susceptible to melting ice caps continues to quadruple down on building around the automobile.

Two things....the ICE is on its way out (so electric will slowly become the normal) second is walls....humanity does best when under pressure. You might not like it you can hate it you can stomp and scream but we dont solve problems until economics make us.

Im a car guy....im partial....this is a hill i can die on happily.

Saying its on the way out is insane. It might become far less used for passenger vehicles, but a gas/diesel engine has far more uses than cars and trucks. And if you think converting some major portion of the world's cars to electric is going to be the factor to 'save the world' from the climate crisis then I have some bad news for you.

Oh i dont.....but as costs continue to come down...that will slowly translate to industry too....really its the storage end of things we need to work on. Furthermore industry generally gets alot of...leeway because politics (granted i don't think goverment should tell somebody how many mpg etc you need) airplanes are an obvious obstacle for example...you cant fit the storage medium even if you paid for it on something that small. (And slow sailing dosen't really work in the air) ships would be another medium where the engine will remain however i also dont think it will die off in the traditional car segment either. My miata isnt going anywhere.

Please note my comment was about cars because the comment i responded too seemed to "talk down to" the reliance of some places on the car. Even norway likes boats....

Oh how to placate the NIMBYs. They want lots of energy to do things, but dont want it anywhere near themselves. They like Windmills but not blocking their views. They like Solar, but live in places where the sun doesn't shine. They like Geothermal, but hate volcanos. They also like to eat, but dont want those farms and ranches or animals near them. They want that magical Disney experience where everything is just there for them to consume but dont want to see nor bear the price of the supply chains that deliver it to them.

Yup. Wind turbines are great as long as they are in the middle of nowhere in west Texas or Minnesota. If they are visible from Cape Cod then the lawsuits fly, ironically from the people most in favor of wind power!

BS, Northeastern states like New Jersey and Massachusetts are currently building or preparing to build near gigawatt offshore wind farms. Please do not post old stories from 15 years ago and present them as current.

Haven't been to the Orlando area since right before Covid hit in March 2020. Arrived on Monday, drove by Crossroads yesterday, and saw that all businesses have been shutdown, and area fenced off. Anyone know of project timeline/scope for new I-4 interchange...or whatever the state has planned for this area?

Sad to see Crossroads just a shell. They could have at least kept some of the businesses open until some of the ‘to be’ work actually started…

Is Flamingoes Crossing meant to be the upcoming modernised ‘replacement?’

Largest eminent domain case in the states history for a reason. I talked personally to ops management of some of the restuarants. Those were the most profitable restaurants in the state for most of them.

Flamingo crossing is sort of a replacement? For the businesses affected here keep an eye out for the area where the new white castle is. And across the bridge at target.

…I’m gonna guess you’ve never been near a road project if you think that’s “long”?

Being near a road project is not really my background. Why the lag between businesses closing & the works starting is my general curiosity. Contracts / funding issue perhaps, or maybe just p*** poor management.
