Creepy New Survey Question....

Glad I found this thread a couple of weeks ago I went to the parks on the weekend with my son and on Monday went back to work and my job works with Disney and sells products to them I got a call from one of the Employees there giving me and order and he mentioned he finally got to see what I looked like. I asked him what he was talking about and he proceeded to tell me what park i was at and what ride I was riding and what time it was also and he said described what i was wearing and and even told me what my son was wearing and he was guessing his age which he was off by one year so the technology is there for this .

^^^^ THIS ^^^^

Stuff like this is not in the realm of tinfoil haberdashery any longer it's there and it's being used. A valid question is what are the access policies in place here. Remember in Las Vegas the casinos have had this level of surveillance for a long time and the surveillance department is not even allowed to socialize with the rest of the casino employees for both legal and psychological reasons.

A question which was asked in the time of the Romans by Juvenal is even more relevant today Quis custodiet apses custodes or "Who watches the watchers"

Food for thought.

As you might expect, I having a bit of a problem with this. How would they have identified you if they didn't know what you looked like? Where would they have gotten your picture? Why would they even have that information? I'm thinking that this is BS to the first degree. Doesn't have a single reason for happening and the company would not have a single reason to have that information, none. So no, I'm not buying it. It did seem to work well to support some of the more paranoid among us, so that was helpful for them.

Magic Bands are associated with a name and on-ride photos automatically associate with Magic Bands.

Not to mention that apparently some random low to mid level functionary from Disney Purchasing Dept just ambled over to Security and had them comb the admission records for a name and then pull up photography on said guest. Yeah, seems likely.

We don't know what the access policy is for MB data I'm guessing it's pretty much available to anyone who has guest contact in their employee profile on the HUB.

What's bothersome is sounds like anyone can get these records because once he looked me up he told me what color hat I had on and the logo on that hat and was right about the time I was on the ride in Tomorrowland. And this employee doesn't work in the parks he works in another division of Disney.

I guess the question is a bit creepy in that they actually asked it. However, I made a reservation using my name and address, I showed up, they know what room I was in, they know I paid for stuff either on my room key or my credit card, and they knew how to find me to ask me to take the survey. If they were not already linking all that information together before they ever asked the question I'd actually be shocked.

I'm more creeped-out that after all that data collection they don't acknowledge that I'm aware of the continuing decline by degrees. My share of the 'revenue per guest' is skewing the average down.

Well, let me ask you this: Do you find the mouse keeping track of what you do, stay, answer surverys, etc., creepy?
Not really any more than shopping at a store, eating at a restaurant, staying at a hotel, and then getting an email survey shortly thereafter asking about my experiences. What's the difference?

Because something something Bob Iger something something why can't it be the 80s again something something I hate millennials.

Correction - we don't hate millennials.

We simply think they are anti-free speech, over-entitled snots that wouldn't know true adversity if it bit them on their overly-pampered rear-ends, that they ridiculously claim to eschew traditional labels while inventing dozens of new ones that everyone else is expected to instantly be aware of and unquestionably subscribe to - lest they be branded as "haters" and risk Taylor Swift penning a song about them - and they are too busy validating their existence by taking endless selfies and pictures of their food that they compulsively share online to realize that their precious "micro-aggressions" are are one step away from declaring "thought crimes" - as the world they want to create is closer to a fascist regime than the gender-less utopia they believe they are inventing.

Maybe you should read this. Unfortunately, I don't have a poorly drawn political cartoon that grossly oversimplifies things to accompany it.

If i could like this more I would. We don't agree often but this is so well put. It's almost embarrassing to see some people I attend college with and they actually believe a lot of what they say. The stuff would scare you

Oh, it terrifies me - even as a liberal gay man.

FWIW, we realize that it's not all of you - but that the voices of those that are like that are unfortunately being allowed to set the tone for how the entire generation is perceived, because so few peers are speaking out about it and are seemingly complicit in allowing it to propagate. I can sympathize, because if I had to be around those folks every day I'm sure I would want to avoid becoming their target by simply holding an opposing thought.

BTW, congrats on 1K posts!

Just to clarify one thing- Freedom of Speech applies to the GOVERNMENT, as in, THEY cannot censor your words. (And even that's not so simple and clean cut). Private businesses, groups, and services can do set whatever guidelines they like regarding your behavior. And if you don't like it, you don't have to associate with them.

For example, say you invite me into your home. I start swearing loudly, non-stop, in front of your children. You ask me politely to stop. I do not. You ask again more firmly. I refuse. Finally, you kick me out. Are you infringing on my First Amendment rights? No, I was just being a jerk.

Thank you Captain Obvious, for this reminder. ;)

I think you'll find most folks literate enough to post here know this already - but with so many over-sensitive snowflakes out there who misuse the concept, it's always good to repeat.
