This press release just went out for Disneyland in California (stay with me - it relates to MK at WDW):

You'll be grinning from "ear" to "ear" this Summer. For the first time in Disney history, you'll have the opportunity to Create-Your-Own Ear Hat.


It's just FOUR (4) easy steps:
  • Find An Ear Hat Base
  • Select Your Desired "Ears"
  • Accessorize
  • And remember to have your name Embroidered on the back

Now, realizing the hat shop on Mainstreet at the Magic Kingdom is currently closed for renovation and has had permits filed for extensive installation of fixtures and electrical work - to me it suggests the same program is coming to WDW. Suppose we wont need to be making our own SSE ears for much longer?

I know what we'll be doing during our December trip if The Chapeau is being fitted! Thanks for the info. Very cool! I just hope the embroidery is still the old-school looking stuff...

I wonder if there will be rules that you must go by ?

Kinda like no nicknames....we all heard the guest who insists: "my name really is Sleazy"

Maybe you can't have Goofy ears and a Minnie hair bow. Just wondering how far they will let guests play with the carefully protected corporate mascots.

I can tell you that it IS coming to WDW. I worked on Main Street on my CP. The bad thing about the Chapeau referb is that as of the news in early janurary the hand machines are going bye bye and all will be computerized.

Well, I'm grateful that I got my family's names embroidered/crocheted on our last trip with the classic hand machines on both the classic black ears and our dream ears. I love the classic look with the swirls and squiggles to dot the i's. I loved watching the ladies handle those big loud machines. I suppose going to a computerized version will eliminate the excess waste from discarded mistake ears. :)

This would be cool for WDW. I just hope they have hats that will fit my head because the hats they currently sell are small on my head.

Agreed! How cool! I wonder how creative Disney will get with all the possible options...Maybe even have different options for WDW and DLR.....Hopefully they have this up and going in DLR when I get out there in June. Any idea when this could possibly premiere in WDW?

Oh they are coming, they will be using the DVC area the chapea just for the Build a Ear Hats. The initial plan was for Disneyland to get them in Feb and WDW to get them in March but now its looks like they are deleyed until Summer (at least for DL) My guess is problems with the snaps matching up on the hats to put the ears on. My friend in Merchandise development told me there were problems with this on the samples so its just my hunch. But I got one for Christmas and they are cool. They will be a big hit.

This sounds really cool!..I just hope they have more different versions that you can make...I would like to make one ear with one park symbol, another ear with the other favorite....Hey I wonder if you can make dream ears lol..just kidding! I just hope there is alot to pick from! Like create your favorite ride ears!:sohappy:

I'm sad about the hand sitching going away...:cry:I only get those I don't like the computerized ones...maybe they will make a computerized one that it the orginal font.

I wonder ...if you can make your own version...a better version of the Disney College Program Ears....hmmm

I'm a big collector of these!
