I speak from personal experience and will leave it at that.

Oberlin College, Jussie Smollett

>>The lesson? Making false allegations of racism is egregious and morally bankrupt.

When I was a spokesman for the U.S. Department of Justice, I worked on heinous cases where innocent people were abused because of their skin color. Racism is a sin against God’s own notion that we’re all equal and created in his image. It’s a genuine problem. Only the ignorant or ignoble deny this.

Yet racism does not reside in every heart, it cannot be found around every corner, and it has unquestionably lessened dramatically as America found its footing of fairness following the Civil War of the 1860s and the Civil Rights reforms of the 1960s. Only the ignorant or ignoble will deny that.<<

To all of you asking why stopping a fight can label you a racist you must not have been watching the news lately. Thanks to extensive evidence of police misconduct towards minorities (most of which, I must stress is very real) every time there is an interaction between minorities and the police/security that is alleged to be discrimination will be presented as such in the press. Disney wants no part in that and wants to be viewed as inclusive (see live Ariel casting.) I can see why Disney has severely restricted security engagement rules.

That said, there clearly needs to be some changes. If you are not going to physically intervene you can at least send overwhelming force (5-6 people) to surround the fight and shout orders to stop. That typically will deescalate things and allow said force to then separate the parties involved.

As for the response time, from start of video to first security guard I count only about 2 mins, how much faster do you wish it to be? Also who’s to say the guy who chock holed pink shirt may have been undercover and went back stage to file his incident report once reinforcements arrived. I’m not saying he is undercover, just that he could be. Once punches start flying no way should normal CMs be put in harms way.

I strongly agree with you.

Disneyland security guards, and whomever those manager guys in suits are, look totally out of their league and downright unprepared to deal with this. They also look scared and unwilling to take control. Your use of the word inept is a great way to describe these CM's.

And if Disneyland Security and management can't control this type of situation with people who clearly know how to brawl in public, how would they have reacted if Friday night's 7.1 earthquake was centered in Fullerton instead of 150 miles away in the dessert and caused mass panic and similar mayhem???
Yeah, I find DLR security response here somewhat lacking. I've seen WDW security in MK a few years ago with jump on two brawlers outside of Magic Carpets area and they practically seemed to come out of nowhere and bam there they are. Maybe part of that was they were already in teh general area and utilidoor access to most of MK is easier than getting around the back in DLR, but security was there within 2 minutes flat and grabbing two rather large (compared the the security guys) hot headed men and getting them to the ground quickly and efficiently. And in 4 minutes there was other CM's doing the crowd control for all us lookie loos, and by 5 minutes after everything started, it was done and the two guys were hauled away.

Alas, California is a totally different Legal situation. Between laws made by the State Legislators, along with the court system, including the 9th Circuit, the legal liabilities to take those actions is much higher than Florida.

I personally don't like it, but such is life.

The main (if not sole) instigator of the fight is yelling at the top of his lungs that he's "ready to go to jail!" and cold-cocking women that can't possibly defend themselves.

The only surefire way to stop someone like that of his stature is with a two-person subduing hold and a pair of handcuffs. Obviously that's not something Disneyland security is capable of executing, and I can't say I'm surprised. Too much liability and other potential messiness for corporate security to start acting like the real police.

The only solution to this is more official police in the parks.

On the other hand, upwards of 20 million people go through those turnstiles every year. There will always be a few bad apples in numbers that large. We can hope this is an anamoly that is only a big story because everyone carries HD cameras in their pockets nowadays.

If this same thing happens in 1995, nobody ever knows about it.

Security response time should always be within two minutes. All of Disney Parks are considered high priority targets for sick individuals who would like to cause fear and harm to others... if DLR Security can't handle two wanna-be brawlers beating on women in an area directly located near backstage access, it does not bode well. I would like to say that WDW Security would perform much, much better... but then again, I don't see how it's possible to match the level of incompetence seen in the video, so it's a pointless statement to say anybody would be better. A random mall cop would be better. It looks as if the police didn't even arrest the man who assaulted the women, and instead the family was just escorted out of the parks. Disneyland Security should be ashamed and D'Amaro should be having meetings TODAY to make sure nothing like this can ever happen again. You are running a park that would be a terrorist's dream come true to hit, and you can't break up a fist fight? You have security cast members looking like they're scared to intervene?

Totally and utterly unacceptable in just about every single way. It is a failure from the beginning of the fight all the way until they remove the family from the park. Minus one guest who tries to deescalate the situation, I don't see a single correct decision made.

Disneyland Security Response Grade: F-

I just watched. So many kinds of messed up. It brought tears to my eyes. Those poor babies.

So disappointing on so many levels.

DLR is still making every single guest go through a metal detector, right? Because it's pretty clear that crack team of security everyone talks about at Disney is a myth.

Waiting for the KTLA Channel 5 news report, they have teased it multiple times, and said it had a response from Disneyland officials.....
Anything short of "We're reviewing our disappointing response and will put new policies in place right away" won't be enough.

>>A video posted to YouTube on Sunday captured a violent fight that broke out at Disneyland.

The footage, dated July 6, 2019, shows at least two men and two women involved in the brawl at Mickey's Toontown. Some tried to intervene and stop the altercation as children, along with other parkgoers, watched.

The guests, who are family members, were immediately escorted out of the park, a Disneyland official told KTLA.

"We do not condone this behavior," a statement from Disney said.

The case is now being investigated by Anaheim police, who did not immediately respond to request for more information.<<
