That necklace is beautiful!

I forgot, I took up jewelry making a few years ago. Have a whole plastic cart full of supplies and somehow don’t find time to work on it much anymore.
Thanks! I don't work on crafty stuff a lot. Usually when I need a gift for someone, or like the cakes for birthdays. Sometimes I just get the bug, and I'll make several things in a row, then put it all away for months at a time. Now, half the time, I put the stuff away and my daughter gets it back out.

That part of it makes my head explode. The only reason I don't freak about it is because 1) he loves it so much, 2) he pays his tournament fees every week and gets a certain number of card packs and also wins card packs most times, and 3) because he loves it so much.

Me 'Earties

Not all treasure is silver and gold, mate
Don’t know if she’s ever taken pics of her work, but @Sans Souci makes gorgeous soap.

And @Me 'Earties bakes and decorates some incredible cakes.
Cool thread!! Thanks for tagging me 😀

If anyone needs help in the cake department, let me know-I would be happy to help! Here are a couple fun ones I’ve done in the last year or so:

Love that necklace! I got into beadwork when I lived in a teepee (yes, a real one) for 6 months and studied Native American life on the plains...bought tons of supplies and made quite a few things (don't have any of them anymore)...but I do still have the supplies and a beading loom. I tried making earrings a few times over the years, but I could never get them to keep their shape very well.
Very cool!! Where did you live in the teepee? A lot of their beadwork is really intricate...I wouldn't have the patience for that. I go in spurts when I see something I think is cool and want to try a new technique, but it never lasts long. There's a big convention thing here for crafting every year that I always went to with my MIL and they have workshops and vendors in all different types of crafting....card making, jewelry, cake decorating, knitting and crochet, sewing, painting....tons of stuff. It's always fun to go do workshops to learn new things, but I haven't found anything that is like "This is it! This is my craft!"

You have no idea how many times that has run through my head!

He's really very good though...his friends have literally kept themselves poor spending a FORTUNE on cards. He only plays once a week, and the tournament fees are well worth the price. $15 gets him 5 packs, plus he usually wins at least a pack or two, and he has the fun of playing for 4-6 hours. He's a savvy trader, too...rather than keeping the cards he randomly gets that are worth a lot, he trades them for less expensive cards that he'll actually play with (the expensive cards would sit in a binder, unused).

My ex was big into Magic. He tried to teach me, but it's just not my thing. And he was also very cut throat and had strong opinions about certain cards like...there was a guy who had spent THOUSANDS on his cards and he had 3 black lotus cards. My ex HATED that this guy used black lotus because he considered it almost cheating because it was such a rare card that most people couldn't get one let alone three. So he would rant and rant about how he lost because of the black lotus and it wasn't fair and bla bla bla.

We moved around between a few different campgrounds for a month or so, but finally settled on one in Carver in Massachusetts...privately owned, with it's own lake for fishing, and actual bathrooms and showers. We had electricity, and a wood stove inside (instead of just a fire in the middle of the floor), so we weren't freezing (we actually lived in it from May to the end of November). It was REALLY fun and interesting for the first three months...but by the end of November, we were pretty well done living 3 people in one room (I was literally a teenager at the time...this was before I even met hubby). I learned A LOT...made a bow and arrows out of branches from an ash tree, learned to tan a hide with tea, how to make the best beef jerky ever, etc...and I had the pleasure of giving two Girl Scout Troops tours of the teepee and taught them how it worked and why they stay dry inside and why bugs don't like them. It was the experience of a lifetime!

Woodcarving and painting are my jam...but I really do love trying anything with my hands. 😊

I salute you. My grandmother was an Arapaho Indian and everybody in my family is more than happy to do none of that. Lol.

YES! We've only seen 2 black lotuses...hubby actually had one, but sold it years ago. He feels the same way - hates that people just buy the cards to copy decks that are posted online, but gets a kick out of making decks from the cards he gets that beat the expensive ones. He's really quite a good player!

It wasn't actually a choice to do all that, lol...I tried to make the best of a bad situation by learning as much as I could. I wouldn't go back to do it over again and have it any other way, though. The experience was well worth it. One of these days I'll give my boys at least a taste of what it was like.

Yes, my ex was really good. He did really well in tournaments for the most part....only when someone "cheated" by using one of the black lotuses was he out early, and then it was just because that was one of the first cards the guy drew or something, so my ex didn't have time to get to any of his good cards. That only happened once and boy was he angry. But it got to the point that that's all he wanted to do...play magic. We were in college and worked in the residence halls, and he had the shift after me and I'd get a call that he was in the middle of the game, and he'd be late to relieve me. Or he wouldn't show up to class because he was playing a game. One time, he locked himself out of the apartment and decided that rather than come to class without his textbook that was in the apartment, he'd just skip class altogether and I could take notes for him, so he went to the gaming store to play magic. And then he would get upset that while he was playing magic, I went out with my friends or got on the computer, because he couldn't see if some guy was flirting with me. All his money went to magic cards and he'd nickel and dime me with the bills so I was paying all the bills and he was buying magic cards. I ended up just resenting everything to do with Magic. I didn't even realize Magic still existed. I don't know anyone who plays...apparently it never caught on here in the Netherlands.

I have a relative who's into that, almost flunked a year of school because of it:eek:

You definitely need to have a good head on your shoulders to not become obsessed with it.
