No it's not a remarkable acceleration. If the country is not fully open by the 4th of July we will be months behind where Operation Warp Speed was designed to take us. We vaccinated well over 1 million people on January 20th. We should be well past 3 million a day now and 4 million a day in April. For Biden to take or even be given credit for this progress is just wrong.

Science gave us the vaccine in January 2020. It is because of Government regulations that we are not fully vaccinated today. We need to speed up the approval process and manufacturing of medicine and vaccines. We need to figure out why the USA ever let out pharmaceutical manufacturing out of the USA. We need to ensure we are never dependent on another country for our health. Forget who is the President today or who was last year. We lost over 500 million US Citizens because Presidents prior to Trump sold us out and made up dependent on China. Neither Trump nor Biden really deserve credit for the end of the pandemic and Trump doesn't deserve the blame for it either. The pandemic was either just a natural disaster or caused by China, in either case the US and the rest of the world were just victims.

My state moved up our timeline by a couple weeks. Moved onto the second to last phase this week. Basically anyone who says they are frontline can get one now. They don’t check either. So basically in NC next Wednesday it’s open to all.

Exactly. Insofar as we can now expect all adults to be eligible for vaccine by May 1, the earliest specific date that has been announced, there are significant implications for the actual topic of these boards—the parks. The CEO himself admitted that vaccines being available to all adults would be a game changer for the company.

Of course, we’ve been saying around these parts that the timetable should be able to accelerate for weeks now. We’ve also been discussing how important optimism and carrots are to promote vaccination. Looks like someone in the administration reads these boards.

The President suggested more carrots for the vaccinated will be announced shortly (I interpret this as “April”). It looks like, “you’re free to travel” will be included.

By May 1, there will be enough doses shipped such that 82% of U.S. adults can be vaccinated.

So... it was a foregone conclusion that by then states will have opened up dosing to everyone.

It was nice to hear that from leadership at the top, tho. And based in reality and not wishful thinking. And it will ease the panic among some trying to get vaccinated.

By the end of May, there will be a surplus of doses compared to all adults in the U.S.

Optimism is obviously huge here to temper growing despondency. A commitment to states and directions on rollout are also helpful.

Further, pharmaceuticals frequently miss targets. So a commitment that what “could” happen “will happen” is significant. I am reminded of certain promises made last year without any actual plan to achieve them.

I want my second shot from a veterinarian (they can now give them) so I can bring my cat and be like “while we’re here...”

Pfizer and Moderna have shown they can meet goals and increase them. The current administration is using the emergency production hijacking act to make sure they get the supplies they need. And they got Merck to help J&J with their roll-out which did indeed hit a snag, but, this should fix them in the end. And then they ordered another 100M of J&J that only needs one shot and doesn't have onerous storage requirements.

There's a reason to be optimistic.

And that's without Novavax coming online, which it may.

Meanwhile, we are apparently sitting on tens of millions of AZ shots that we don’t want or need. They really should be sent to Europe or S. America. I’m sure if we ever approve the AZ shot, they can send our 100m doses then for a potential booster campaign. But we shouldn’t be holding onto doses we have no intention of using in this vaccination campaign when dozens of countries are using that vaccine and need more.

I don't know the hold up there. AZ's review process in the U.S. could be the hold up. The U.S. still has to make a final determination whether to approve AZ. If they don't get the approval, AZ can shop it elsewhere. If they get the approval, then those doses belong to the U.S. and the administration can decide what to do with them.

Can you imagine the flak that Biden would get if he just told AZ to give away all those doses that could have gotten approval that was already paid for by the U.S.? Let the opposition party be the first to encourage setting those doses free so there's no political damage for doing so.

I’m sure you’re correct but it’s messed up when the pandemic has never been worse in Brazil than it is now.

My younger brother made can appt next week for a Moderna shot with CVS pharmacy. He even could make an appt day/time for his second shot. CVS is on the ball!
Getting my second Moderna shot at CVS today, and the first one was a breeze. The weird thing is that I went online on February 11 and found several slots for the next day at a pharmacy nearby. But when I tried to schedule for my husband a few days later when he turned 65, there was nothing. Since then I've been checking every day for other family members and nothing. I thought when I scheduled my appointment that that would be the turning point for availability at pharmacies, but that hasn't happened.

The trick is those who are still fearful not hating or shaming the vaccinated who get back out there. That’s my biggest concern.

I would think those people would also be vaccinated so would not be fearful anymore?
I think once we have herd immunity and once its approved for kids there shouldn't be much to fear.

This is not a politics thread and I don’t want to see it turn into that, but its just crazy to see how politics skews some people’s perception. Having a guarantee that vaccines will be open to the general public by no later than May 1 is absolutely fantastic news. Having a symbolic return to a level of normalcy with the most Americana of celebrations in the backyard BBQ on July 4th is truly inspirational. I find it laughable how some people are so desperate to find a negative spin on something that has no negative to it. We have a light at the end of the tunnel and we have a firm date where everyone will have access to the vaccine. Enjoy it. Embrace the really positive news for all of us. There are 3.75 more years to find fault and spew hate at the current administration. Take a break and enjoy this moment. :)

Good luck with your second Moderna shot. Several hours after my second Moderna shot a few weeks ago and I was out for the count with strong side effects.

4 out of 5 immediate family members got their first Pfizer within the last 3 weeks. My sister-in-law (who is a bit of a hypochondriac anyway) got a horrendous reaction within hours of the shot - very bad headache, vomiting for almost 12 hours. By the next morning she was fine. She says she is terrified of getting the 2nd vaccine. Meanwhile, hubby just got 2nd Pfizer this morning. Said arm ached immediately. Hoping that is the only side effect he gets.

Oh wow that's not a good reaction to the first shot. My 82 mother had a reaction to the first Pfizer shot ( 2 hour arm ache ) , next week fingers crossed hope for no reaction to her second Pfizer shot. A 65 year old guy who works out in the same gym I go to said to me he had no reaction to both Pfizer shots.
