It's not Country genre but I can't help but laugh thinking of Melvin, Buff, and Max singing "Boris the Spider" by The Who. Complete with "Creepy Creepy Crawly Crawly" parts by Sammy much to the chagrin and obvious arachnophobia from Henry.

Thought of another option for Romeo. Love Potion #9 (Clovers version) They already have the heart gobo lighting. Though it might be too on the nose or not "Halloween" enough?

The more I think about your show overlay the more I want to see an animated Country Bears Disney+ series or at least a one-off Halloween special.

It’s crazy how many fitting songs there are- definitely a testament to Marc Davis’s incredible character design skills. Between just a dozen bears you can cover pretty much any theme of song!

On the Romeo note- that’s also a great fit! Love Potion has the advantage of being a well known song already associated with Halloween. I could see Romeo in a Dr. Frankenstein/mad scientist inspired design, with static-y hair and electric accents on his Elvis suit!

I would LOVE a CBJ show- I definitely feel that Disney is sleeping on the IP. The characters are very charming and with the range in personalities you can cover a lot of story ideas. Personally I would die for a CBJ animated movie made by WDAS! The live action movie did the bears dirty, it barely (heh) feels like Marc’s work at all.

Love the addition of "Zip A Dee Doo Dah" and how it's scripted here! The lyric changes to Devil went down to Georgia are fun. I like the idea of it being food that he wants instead of a soul. Leftover vittles lol

I love this! I was throwing around ideas for a new Christmas show myself, with Romeo singing Jingle Bell Rock.

Figured I'd try my hand at my own Christmas Special revamp! I like a lot of the original, so I really just swapped a few songs here and there. Added a Frozen song in there because I figured that's mandatory, lol.

The Country Bear Christmas Jamboree
  • "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas" - Gomer and Henry
  • "Tracks in the Snow" - Henry and the Five Bear Rugs
  • "White Christmas" - Wendell
  • "All I Want for Christmas is You" - Trixie
  • "Deck the Halls" - The Five Bear Rugs
  • "Jingle Bell Rock" - Romeo McGrowl and Gomer
  • "Do You Want to Build a Snowman" - Terrence and the Penguin
  • "Sleigh Ride" - The Sun Bonnet Trio, Melvin, Max, and Buff
  • "Hungry as a Bear" - Ernest and the Five Bear Rugs
  • "The Christmas Song" - Teddi Barra and Henry
  • "Blue Christmas" - Big Al
  • "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!" - Henry, Sammy, and the Sun Bonnet Trio
  • "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" - Melvin, Max, and Buff
  • "Winter Wonderland" - Cast (minus Ernest and Trixie)
  • "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" - Exit music

(Credit for that last one goes to EagleScout, I loved the idea of that song being played as everyone leaves!)

There's probably a million ideas you could do for all the characters- "Last Christmas" would work with Trixie, "Santa Baby" with Teddi, etc. Heck, you could do "I'll Be Home for Christmas" for Wendell and keep him covered in snow, with the joke being he won't make it home.

Here's an idea I've been cooking up for a few days- "The Country Bears Take Hollywood"! This would be a celebration of Hollywood music, moreso on the classic side but with some more well-known/modern songs in there. Haven't decided on a final setlist, but instead tried to plot out song ideas and organize them by bear. I'm sure not all of these songs could be used- I doubt Disney would want to shell out licensing money like they used to with Vacation Hoedown. But this is all for fun anyways! Songs colored blue denote songs that were made by Disney. Songs colored orange denote songs that Disney didn't make, but have used in the parks/their movies before (to my knowledge). Bold denotes the song(s) I'm leaning towards more for the show, though the setlist isn't finalized yet.

Opening Song
  • Hooray for Hollywood
  • Original Song- “Hollywood Hillbillies”?
Henry & Sammy
  • Puttin’ on the Ritz
  • Lavender Blue
  • The First Time It Happens
  • Stepping Out With A Star
  • We Belong Together
Five Bear Rugs
  • Let It Ride
  • Straight To The Heart Of Love - with Trixie or solo
  • In The Cool, Cool, Cool, Of The Evening
Gomer
  • As Time Goes By - with Trixie or solo
  • City of Stars
  • Chim Chim Cheree
  • The First Time It Happens
Wendell
  • Rainbow Connection
  • My Heart Will Go On
  • Make ‘Em Laugh
  • That’s Amore
  • Mammas, Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys
  • Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head
  • Hopelessly Devoted To You
  • When a Cowboy Trades His Spurs for Wings - with Big Al
Romeo McGrowl
  • Moon River
  • Stayin’ Alive
  • Blue Moon
  • Can’t Help Falling In Love - with Trixie
Trixie
  • Jolly Holiday - with Ernest
  • Someday My Prince Will Come
  • Why Don’t You Do Right
  • As Time Goes By - with Gomer
  • Can’t Help Falling In Love - with Romeo
  • 9 to 5 - with the Sun Bonnets
  • Hopelessly Devoted To You
  • Straight To The Heart Of Love - with the Five Bear Rugs
The Sun Bonnets
  • Good Morning
  • My Favorite Things
  • Mrs. Robinson
  • In The Cool, Cool, Cool, Of The Evening
  • 9 to 5 - either with Trixie or solo
Terrence/Shaker
  • Cheek to Cheek
  • My Heart Will Go On
  • Mona Lisa
  • Mammas, Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys
  • Secret Love
  • Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head
  • Hopelessly Devoted To You
  • You’ll Be In My Heart
Ernest
  • Jolly Holiday - with Trixie
  • When You Wish Upon a Star
  • Pennies from Heaven
  • Lavender Blue
  • Chim Chim Cheree
Teddi Barra
  • Over the Rainbow
  • Rainbow Connection
  • When You Wish Upon a Star
  • Singin’ in the Rain
  • Swinging On A Star
  • Baby Mine
  • Secret Love
  • Hopelessly Devoted To You
  • Can You Feel The Love Tonight
Big Al
  • Let It Go
  • Baby Mine
  • The Ballad of Jed Clampett
  • That’s Amore
  • Mammas, Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys
  • Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head
  • When a Cowboy Trades His Spurs for Wings - with Wendell
  • You’ll Be In My Heart
Finale
  • Hollywood Nights
  • Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah (it’ll never happen though)
  • We Belong Together
  • Rainbow Connection
  • When You Wish Upon A Star
  • Heigh-Ho
  • Straight To The Heart Of Love
Exit Song
  • Hooray For Hollywood

I'd love some suggestions if you guys think of any songs that would fit the show!

This is a good setlist though I don't know if "Midnight in Montgomery" (Great song btw!) or Devil Went Down to Georgia (shame) would be featured in an actual Disney overlay because they're either too regionally-specific or reference the word "Devil" which is a Disney S+P no-go. Would Devil Went Down to Georgia be an instrumental? Finding something that fits the same tone as "Midnight in Montgomery" might be challenging.
When I was a kid, I went to a show at Fort Wilderness where they sang Devil Went Down To Georgia unaltered alongside other country songs. I forgot what it was called though.

🐻 Country Bear Jamboree - Seasonal Overlay Ideas🐻

With the resurgence in the Country Bears lately and rumors of a potential return to seasonal overlays, I thought it'd be fun to have a thread where we can come up with our own show ideas, whether it be new holiday shows, new versions of the classic shows, or even shows with entirely new themes to them!

As people come up with setlists/ideas, I'll make a master list in this post. I'm excited to see what you all come up with!

Seasonal Overlay Ideas

Holidays
Old Show Revamps
Misc.
These look pretty cool!

Thanks! I've found it really fun to try to match songs to the bear's personalities with a general cohesive theme. Also been throwing around the idea of a Broadway show (though that would never happen), possibly a Valentine's special? Lots of possibilities, and I'm excited to see what others in the community create!

Well, I'm also excited to see how people interpret the Country Bears! I'm working on something right now.

"The Country Bears Take Hollywood"
  • Henry and The Five Bear Rugs - "Hooray for Hollywood" from Hollywood Hotel
  • The Sun Bonnets - "9 to 5" from 9 to 5
  • Trixie & Gomer - "As Time Goes By" from Casablanca
  • Shaker- "Cheek to Cheek" from Top Hat
  • Romeo McGrowl - "Can't Help Falling in Love" from Blue Hawaii
  • The Five Bear Rugs - "Let It Ride" from The Country Bears
  • Ernest the Dude - "When You Wish Upon a Star" from Pinocchio
  • Wendell & Big Al - "When a Cowboy Trades His Spurs for Wings" from The Ballad of Buster Scruggs
  • Henry & Sammy "Lavender Blue" from So Dear to My Heart - Henry and Sammy
  • Teddi Barra - "Over the Rainbow" from The Wizard of Oz
  • Cast (minus Ernest and Shaker) - "Rainbow Connection" from The Muppet Movie
  • Exit Music - "Hooray For Hollywood" (Instrumental)
Updated 8/10/24: Replaced Romeo's song since it didn't actually originate from a movie, and also reordered the show a bit so it flows better.

Here's a tentative list of songs for my CBJ Halloween in no particular order:
Grim Grinning Ghosts (Buddy Baker and X Atencio) (Finale)
The Devil Went Down To Georgia (Ernest) (See my comment about the Fort Wilderness show)
Blood On The Saddle (Tex Ritter) (Big Al) (Including this piece for its creepy factor and relevance to Big Al's history)
People Are Strange (The Doors) (Trixie and Gomer) (Gomer is there due to a piano solo after the bridge)
Season Of The Witch (Donovan) (Wendell and Henry)
Ghostbusters (Ray Parker Jr) (The Bear Rug Band and Henry)
Thriller (Immortal Version) (Michael Jackson) (Romeo)
Everybody (Backstreet Boys) (The Bear Rug Band)
Superstition (Stevie Wonder) (Shaker)
I Put A Spell On You (Nina Simone/The Hocus Pocus Cast) (Teddi Barra and The Sun Bonnets)

(Yes, I know that the majority of these aren’t country, but these are songs by artists that I am passionate about.)
