Country Bear Jamboree closing for lengthy refurbishment in August

I've heard some rumors about the upcoming CBJ refurb. Since single-day guests spend more on admission than people who buy multi-day tickets, MK management is looking at moves to encourage more locals to come to the park. Now I'm sure you're thinking that guests staying on-property probably bring in more money overall for the resort, and that may be true. However, it's not the primary concern of MK management, who are only responsible for that park. The positive response to the Orange Bird's return has led them to believe that more Florida-oriented samplings will bring in the locals. They're also looking to create some cohesiveness with the other musical animatronic show nearby, the Enchanted Tiki Room. How do they get country music-singing bears to connect to Florida and birds? Birds? Byrds? Florida? Gram Parsons!

Expect a lot of Gram Parsons' music to be in use after the refurb, along with possibly some of Emmylou Harris' work for Trixie, Teddi Barra and the Sun Bonnet Trio. Naturally, as the attraction exits into Pecos Bill's, expect them to begin serving burritos.

What!!! No Dolly Parton? :)

Perhaps the Sun Bonnet Trio could sing To Know Him is to Love Him from the Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris and Dolly Parton album Trio? It's a natural fit, as the song was originally recorded by The Teddy Bears.
I think they would need four singing bears to make it a natural fit.

So there's a rumor going around MiceChat that Country Bear Jamboree will have a few minutes cut during its refurb. Thoughts on that?

Personally I think the show is pretty compactly-written and well-paced already (which couldn't be said about the Enchanted Tiki Room before its trimming, IMO), so I don't really know what they could cut. It seems for the most part that each character gets only one song, so removing a song would therefore mean removing a character, which wouldn't be good.

Word is Mama Don’t Whup Little Buford will be cut.

The segment I've heard possibly being cut is Bubbles, Bunny and Beulah's "All the Guys that Turn Me On Turn Me Down".

Which really never made sense as the sing-a-long-song anyway if you think about it.

With talk of this and "Don't Whup Little Buford" going away, wouldn't be too surprised if this is the "Politically Correct" refurbishment for the bears.

I would consider cutting 5-6 min of a 17 min show more than "a few". Even two would annoy me, personally. I'm also wondering what Next-gen stuff could be installed? The lobby area is quite small as is.

They might need to strike Henry's "Soon as I find a ladder, I'll be right up" line, too. Sounds like he's hot for Teddi Berra. Not really an appropriate sentiment in the kiddified world of the modern-day MK. While we're at it, a few of the songs suggest romance and cheating and -- gonna just have to get rid of all of that.

Probably would be best to shutter the attraction until Toy Story 5: Woody's Revenge comes out and then turn it into a meet-and-greet with the new Sheriff Porky character.

I have to say - (to me) unbelievably, the general public still seems to get a kick out of this attraction. I love it since it's classic Disney Americana with some brilliant writing/audio-animatronics... I don't even like country music! But the crowd I saw it with on Thursday (full house, for the record) was laughing (I'm talking consistent laugh track-like laughs) and applauding and clapping around. Big Al got a big response as soon as he appeared. Clearly, this show still has an audience that appreciates it - I think cutting any of it (especially some of the more... erm... "old-fashioned" lines) would simply be a disgrace. Here's hoping they give the bears a tune-up and leave it at that.

For what it's worth, though, aside from an eye brow here or there, the bears looked and sounded great. I would've believed you if you'd told me they'd just gotten out of refurbishment.

Seriously...we do NOT need a CBJ: Under New Management for goodness sakes Learn your lesson already.

Some things, while not "PeRfEcT" are still far better than what will replace it.. Leave it alone... heck are we not the only CBJ left? I know Disneyland's is gone....

Now they CAN and SHOULD give us a Holiday Overlay....make us a NEW one if you have to....make the queue nextgen or whatever.... but the normal season show should be left alone.... ADD but do not edit/delete anything.
