Could it Be? (EO returning to EPCOT)

I would no mind seeing it return to Epcot for a short time period but I would really like to see something new and original and a general reno of the theater in Epcot. HISTA isnt a bad show but it's dated

I've said it one every Eo thread so far. Disney should be moving forward, not back.

I can see it as a hit at DL where the annual passholders will flock in for their nostalgia fix. But keep it out of FL and definitely out of Future World! We want a full refurb, not a quick fix.

God forbid they actually do something that pleases the FANS. I'm sick and tired of every single thing done at the parks being aimed at the general guest who cares nothing about the parks and only goes once every 5 or 10 years. You take away things like Alien Encounter and The Timekeeper (using examples that hit close to home) and those guests don't care if they're replacements are average (MILF) or just horrible (SGE). They have no vested interest.

Fans care about that 1972-era parade because it is one of the best things Disney has ever done, IMO. They care about retro merchandise because it reminds them of a time when they were either first introduced to the parks or it reminds them of a time when the parks were better than they are today.

The fundamental flaw in the way the business is being run now is that quality isn't as important as it used to be. In the 1990's if an attraction was being replaced, you expected the replacement to be a better attraction. Nowadays it is a success when a replacement isn't horrible. To paraphrase Cranium Command, they've had some successes to go along with those failures, but it is not the same.

I think the parks fanbase (and to a larger extent myself) are also sick and tired of EVERY SINGLE new addition to the parks being something that is pre-existing character based. At least EO was an ORIGINAL story that was park specific. Even as a child I owned Figment, Big Al, and Fuzzball (from EO) plushes more that those of the Fab 5. There is something special to me about characters that only exist in the parks. And that is something that is sadly becoming a thing of the past.

The bottom line, IMO, people weren't craving for retro merchandise in the 1990's because the attractions being built during that era didn't make you starve for a better time. If that were the case now, maybe I won't look forward to walking into MouseGear and buying every "EPCOT Center" shirt I see as being one of the MAJOR highlights of a yearly WDW trip.

I'm going to have to disagree.

Stop with all this ridiculous overly-intense hatred of all of Disney's newer efforts already!

Hopefully the announcement will be George Lucas showing up at the premiere.

I'm indifferent to the movie coming back to EPCOT. It would be nice for nostalgia sake, but I'd rather wait for something new.

If it ran just a few months, even a year, I wouldn't care. But I know if it does come its likely to stay a long time.

I just want an Imagination refurb.

Once again, terrible idea.

Bringing back an extremely corny, dated, mediocre at its time show. Starring a "man" who more likely then not is a child molester. Yeah that sounds wonderful.

I'd love a short-term EO return to Epcot. Indeed, I was actually saying that even before MJ passed away.

Bowing to nostalgia once in a while is a good thing, and in the case, it would, for a short time, put some energy in a part of the park that needs it.

But the time should be limited, and they should actually annouce what will happen when EO ends.

I'd go with a one-year return of Captain EO (with Makin' Memories), followed by, for a bit more nostalgia, Magic Journeys for a few months, leading up to the closing of Imagination in late 2011, so that it can reopen on its 30th birthday with all new attractions.

So? It'd be replacing a movie that fits that same exact description.

Exactly! At least EO would be something different after 15 years of the same thing. Now, if it's brought back, it should be there a year tops, but it would at least be something that serves as a tribute and a transition to the next incarnation of the Imagination pavilion.

I would rather see the theater demolished to make room for more ride space!

Well that's not gonna happen anytime soon.

Besides, I disagree. There's plenty of space in the existing ride space, especially if they use all the space that isn't currently used. I'd rather have a new 3-D show. There's really no need to take away an offering from the park.

True enough. HISTA does fit the first part of my issue with EO returning. Seeing how thats only have my problem with the idea of it returning, I would rather see HISTA stay. Obviously option C which would be a good new show, is the best of the bunch.

wouldn't count on it ... and sure hope not ... bringing it back to DL is a MISTAKE and that doesn't need to be done here ...

I don't think so. HISTA is a ghost town. Putting ANYTHING in that spot, new or old, will finally fill the queue again. It will be VERY strange to actually see people standing over there.

I'd go with a one-year return of Captain EO (with Makin' Memories)

OMG I didn't think about the pre-show! Are they bringing the pre-show back to DL?

Not if you want to do something drastic :D

This was posted on the Disney Parks twitter earlier.

  1. Watch for another special “Captain EO” announcement on Twitter next week. @Disneyland will post the info first. http://bit.ly/aaRbAJ 1:45 PM Feb 19th from CoTweet
Special announcement. huh?:lookaroun

It looks like the Twitter announcement may have something to do with the priority seating for the show, the rumored ShowPass. From MouseInfo.com:

It appears that the Disneyland website will launch a Priority Seating opportunity for viewing of Captain Eo. Currently, if you visit Disneyland.com/CaptainEo it redirects to a URL with the phrase "Priority Seating Opportunity Entry Page" which seems to allude to a drawing of sorts for priority seating for the show.

This may be the first running test of Disney's Showpass which is rumored to make its official in-park debut with Disney's World of Color this spring. A Showpass is expected to be similar to a Fastpass, allowing the holder priority entrance for viewing of a show with little to no wait.

More details will be released on Monday via the official Disneyland Twitter.
