Could Aladdin the musical be heading for WDW?

I sure hope not. I'd hate for the one thing we DO get is the one thing from Disneyland I can't stand.
:brick::lol:

(Seriously awful show. Finding Nemo tops it a million times over.)

This is my favorite Disney stage show I've ever seen. I plan my days at Disneyland/DCA around the show, and I'm bummed out when it's not running on any given day. I've also heard the rumblings about a Toy Story show replacing it, and I think this would be a huge mistake. However, if the show finds it's way to Disney World, and is fundamentally the same than I'll have no problem with it as I frequent WDW more so than Disneyland.

Some questions on where they would place it:
They recently did some work on the old Hunchback theater - is that a viable option?

Could it be forced into the Morocco pavilion at Epcot? I'm not sure I agree with it, but it might have the space.

Animal Kingdom doesn't make sense.

Adventureland probably makes the most sense, is there enough room on the expansion pads for this?

If they did dump into Morocco somehow, or Adventureland, what happens in 5-10 years when the show is done here? Admittedly several shows at WDW seem to be running past their prime, but building a custom theater in such a heavily themed location doesn't make much sense. I can't see a traditional Moroccan themed show being able to fill the same venue when it leaves. Adventureland, maybe with something from the Jungle book, or recycling Tarzan or some such, but still..... Better fill/replace a venue/show that needs something instead of building another venue.

Well, Aladdin does have a bird, a monkey and a tiger, so I guess it fits AK. :ROFLOL:

Well, just like Theater in the Wild was reconfigured to become an enclosed theater, why couldn't Disney do the same thing with the theater where Mermaid is show in DHS, or Beauty and the Beast as well?

Disney would have to seriously change those stages to make them a "Broadway" style theater. Aladdin incorporates many things that the WDW stages could not have because they are not set up that way. They would be better off to build a brand new broadway style theater.

Many shows these days use automated fly rails. Some theaters still do it by hand. WDW theaters are not built to handle the weight that it would take to keep many of those pieces in the air. Nor do they have the space because of no fly area. Theaters can only take so much weight on any certain point, now that is usually for traveling shows but still the weight has to be spread out correctly. There is no way I could see Aladdin as it is now at DCA coming to WDW without significant changes made to the effects, scenery etc.

That's why Adventureland is probably a better location. A stage that size in Morocco wouldn't get much use after Aladdin's run, and it would be a cheap ploy to throw attractions into World Showcase that don't necessarily fit (that being said, I don't think it's ridiculous to move the Aladdin spinner to Morocco either).

With that said, I say they should clone it, not move it.

The Aladdin show is fantastic. It's Broadway quality, and given the Genie's luxury of improv, it can remain fresh. Festival of the Lion King is still pulling in the crowds at the Animal Kingdom, and people are wondering "where it's going to be relocated to" instead of "when is it going to be removed?" Personally, I think it's a huge mistake for Disney to re-move it from DCA. It's the best thing in that park. Sure, it may fall to #3 or 4 by 2012, but when you're trying to improv a park, you don't take out one of the park's best elements.

Took the words out of my mouth!

I have never seen the show in person but have watched it on Youtube and i REALLLLY want to see it!!! that would be awesome. but i don't want to lose Beauty and the Beast!
Well let me tell you...it's a great show! It's a can't miss for us every trip.

The thing about the show is that Beauty and the Beast was such a success and such a popular Disney movie with one of it's most beloved princesses, yet this show is really the only tribute to it in WDW.
If they replaced it, Beauty and the Beast would be no where!

That's why I hope Aladdin goes somewhere else if they did bring it to WDW.
Gosh, even stick it where Pooh's Playful Spot is at MK!

La Nuba is staying for another 5 years (I was there when they made that announcement on the dress rehearsal this year), The Hunchback theatre has been gone for quite a few years now and the B&TB theatre isn't compatable with the needs for Aladdin. The theatre in CA was built with specific details to house that show. The house it banked very steeply like stadium seating to get the best views. This also helps to view the flying sequences better. There are also many elevators and traps in the stage meaning if the show were to travel to a different theatre the stage at the venue would have to be nearly gutted and built from scratch. If the show were to transfer to WDW I see then building a theatre around it rather than try to retrofit it into another space.

From my understanding La Nouba just recently signed for another 5 years in their theater... The possibility of that show getting a revamp is there.. but its not going anywhere anytime soon

(oops I see I should read every post before I comment!!!)

Just one more reason that DTD needs a Broadway style theater built. Disney has all these great shows on Broadway that also tour the country they need a home, and DTD is perfect for this. If I am going to pay $100 a seat for a show an amped up version of "Aladdin" would be great as would the full productions of "Lion King", Beauty and the Beast", "Little Mermaid", and "Mary Poppins"

I doubt they would replace the Beauty and the Beast show, only because the 3D version of the movie will be coming out next year. I'm sure it will bring some resurgence beck to the title.

There have been rumors for a while now that Aladdin the musical that plays in the Hyperion theater in DCA will be closing in 2010 and replaced by a Toy Story show.

If it closes could we see this show come to WDW?

Three likely places that it could go:
1.Replace Beauty and the Beast show in DHS.
2. Replace La NOba in DTD.
3. Hunchback Theater in DHS.

The actors are contracted through 2010 do we have a chance to get this show in WDW?

1. I say keep this show..
2. La Nouba just renewed the contract. Besides would they need a venue that large. How long is the Aladdin Show?
3. This is where I would like to see it and makes sense.

I've said this for years and I think it would be a great idea to have something like that on property. Even if it's touring Disney productions or concerts the place is sure to sell loads of tickets.

By the way, it't time for Indy to go. That show will be 20 years old on August 25th this year.

Once The Diana Exhibit has gone (why it's in america in the first place is beyond me) they should Gut the Former Virgin Mega Stores and convert it into a Theatre, if that isn't big enough, disney Quest would be a good site to build it on as TDO appears have forgotten it judging by the 9-10yo technology in there.

In the long run a West-End/Broadway style musical would easily bring in more money than DisneyQuest at least.

P.S I don't hate DQ I was just disappointed to discover on my last rip that it hadn't changed since I was 6 years old.

Seeing that it is only 40 minutes in length this would be a great fit for the studios...

So, a park short on entertainment, give it some short entertainment? :ROFLOL:

Actually, the story I was told 2 or 3 years ago, there are plans to bring the Aladdin show to the Magic Kingdom. Apparently they had plans for building a new mega theater in tomorrowland where the old there was, including some space where the Skyway station is.

Could the demolition of the Skyway have a connection now? I have no idea. I really don't even know if they still plan to build that theater. But there apparently were plans at one time, though.

Aladdin in TL I would boycott that would be the end of Disney theming.

I hate to call this a worthless posting, but it is. Rumors about Aladdin's finish were around last year as well, and the show resumed after it's refurb last Sept. While the Toy Story show development is quite real, it's final home is on the cruise ships only. On top of that, Aladdin continues to be one of the top draws of DCA as well, which was their hesistation in replacing it two years ago (when there were talks of such). Shows also aren't "ported" to another park simply because they close down at another (most sets would be rebuilt rather than transported to WDW - esp as these were specifically made for the Hyperion). There's nothing stopping them from opening up an Aladdin show at WDW right now if they truely wanted to. However, a show of this caliber can not be performed in FL for many reasons, one of which is being talent. LA is an oasis of talented performers (for obvious reasons), where as the talent in FL is normally second/third rate, at best. You'll notice that most of the shows at WDW dont have half as many cast members as Aladdin did, nor has any one show ever had that one "stand-out" actor that you wanted to see over and over again (which Aladdin has, with the amazing actor who has played Genie over the years). WDW's entertainment dept has always struggled with viable talent for these shows (they even struggle to find decent singers/dancers for the simplistic 15 minute parade shows like High School musical).

I'd also love to know why you consider La Nouba's theatre a "likely" place. The Aladdin show is a meaely 45 minute stage show that is hardly worth the cost of ticket that would be required to support such a huge theatre, nor would it fill a theatre of that size. Shows that command such an entrance fee normally have to be at least an hour and a half in length.

I think its safe to say, if you ever want to experience the Aladdin show, a ticket to DCA is probably the only way that will happen. And for those of you who havent seen the show - go do so! It's far better than anything on WDW property.
