I agree with you and his closing the beaches is misguided imho, lets make everyone stay inside close quarters great idea

The assumption is that people have enough common sense to realise that they should be staying at home. Sadly one thing this whole thing has highlighted is how utterly stupid large groups of the population are. They're on a par with the "You cant make me wear a mask" bridgade.

The answers on here for so many people are open things up and patrol them. I’ve heard it for bars.. beaches.. etc. We don’t have enough patrols in this country to make sure people are doing the right thing. It won’t work as you can see by the crowds and huge gatherings every week. Why don’t we as adults just do the right thing, then most places can reopen. We are not so things go downhill. Patrols and policing people to make sure they social distance and/ or wear masks where necessary isn’t working. Let’s try and be caring adults and do what’s right and hopefully this thread might be over because there’s nothing left to talk about.

You need to read some of the responses in this thread.

A lot of us Americans act like Veruca Salt (Willy Wonka character) if not allowed to do whatever they want. Then act with "shock/disbelief/scorn" when they see the giant crowds of folks totally ignoring social distancing, face masks, etc., and the inevitably surging infection rates. And immediately proceed to argue that it's still ok and beaches, bars, and hair salons should be open because it otherwise inconveniences them.

Somehow, almost every other Country is managing to contain the outbreak. Not the USA, though.

Have you been to the south beaches on the 4th of July? Parking, stores, food everything is jammed. There is no distancing. I think it is the right move and I hope it spurs more people to realize this is serious and not going to "fade away" without our intervention.

Seems the herd immunity try does not save the economy unless the rest of the world plays along. Imagine the death toll if everyone had decided that is the way to go. The bulldozers would be working around the clock digging graves ala 1918

I’ve been saying this for months on this thread. Every time I even suggested that an economic downturn was inevitable and that government imposed stay at home orders were not the only cause of the economy tanking people got hysterical. The virus caused a worldwide recession. Sweden was held up as the example for how we should have handled the virus. Doesn’t seem like it worked any better.

Yes and Florida will hit 10,000 very soon and like I have been saying, and maybe 20000/30000 in the next week or two. I honestly thought it was going to be over 10k yesterday. Looking at only one metric is pointless. Hospitalization btw are still steady and if anything gone down a bit, if you want to look one metric that is much more important, accurate and a better gauge.

I do think the new cases will begin to level out in 2 weeks or so , testing will catch up with the level of infection.

for those who hate the flu comparison, the good news is all these asymptomatic or mild cases really going to drive down the IFR. Which for under 17 flu is already much worse and for less than 54 it is near if not less than the flu already.

I don’t know that we ever had any hope of saving the economy, but it would have been nice to save the people.

You can't have a properly functioning society with a novel virus running rampant

If we want to get the economy rolling again, case numbers matter a lot, not just death rate. It doesn't matter to a tourist that the person they get the virus from is young and healthy. For better or worse, in this country a lot of the wealth is concentrated in the older population, and many of them are not going to want to travel to a place where they can easily contract the disease from pretty much anywhere. Not to mention that Europeans won't be coming either. Mortality rate is obviously of top concern, but for those who are worried about the economy, get the cases under control.

It’s really hard to get a exact number when the true data is not being presented. Go to one site and hospitalizations are steady or slulight dip. Go to another and they are going up everywhere. Here’s a link of how things are being presented and why you(not yourself,I mean anyone) can not make broad statements. Ok, maybe a little you. :)

There's not much Disney can really do to prepare.
Many more people get the flu each year and go into the parks infected whether they know it or not and in turn infect others and the flu is pretty deadly.
Also the key population of who has passed away from the virus is older men who already had pre existing conditions particularly respiratory conditions usually from smoking.
Did you avoid Disney during SARS or H1N1 or Zika or Ebola....? If so then avoid Disney now. If not then don't avoid Disney.
Use common sense and wash your hands etc.
Florida is having an outbreak because of people who said, "It's just the flu." Nice work.
