Better now than during vacation. Hopefully y’all are pretty much asymptomatic.

We've all pretty much gotten over it. I still have a little congestion and slight cough, but out of the 3 of us that's it. I hope the immunity from the vaxx + booster + just getting over it gives us enough protection to head down for a week or so and not have to worry so much

I still have a cough six weeks later.

It will. Stop worrying - said in a kind voice. Again 90 days is viewed as minimum for reinfection.

“A vaccine is a biological substance designed to protect humans from infections caused by bacteria and viruses. Vaccines are also called immunizations because they take advantage of our natural immune system’s ability to prevent infectious illness. To understand how vaccines work, we need to consider how our immune system protects us from infections.” Basically a vaccine is suppose to give you immunization to the targeted bacteria or virus. The covid shots are showing that they are really not vaccines in the traditional sense.
Not this crap again...

They ARE vaccines in all senses. They can't completely protect you from infection, however, because all the variants of COVID since delta replicate extremely fast, much faster than the necessary memory T and B cells that are selected by vaccination can activate and mobilize. Plus, the initial infection takes hold in the nasal mucosa, which is a difficult area for blood-borne antibodies to fully penetrate to have their desired effect. These antibodies, though, can easily saturate the lower airways, which is why the vaccinations still work very well against severe infection.

This is like saying that the Ukrainian army is not really an army in the traditional sense because the Russian army was able to breach their initial defenses and occupy part of their country.

I’m showing incredible restraint in not posting a famous speech from Billy Madison here.

Here’s cases of Covid in this country:

Here’s deaths:

I know it’s a little hard because of scales but it should be obvious that something changed in mid 2021 that decoupled deaths (which significantly decreased despite higher case counts) from new cases. I wonder what did that miracle?

And up here in northern Vermont, it will barely hit 50 degrees this Saturday.
That actually sounds wonderful. Im already tired of the heat. Everyone is moving south as they get older.. I may be your new neighbor, I'm going north. Winters not as wintery.. summers getting way to hot.. 50’s in June has my attention.

Mind you, that's quite a bit below the normal. We've been mostly in the 60s and 70s recently. So far this, year, I only had the AC on for a total of 1 day. Not great weather if you like swimming in the lakes, but good weather for everything else.

Winters, on the other hand...

I'm fairly new to this forum. I was pretty bored yesterday and started reading this thread from the beginning and honestly, its kind of fascinating and also, funny to go back and read posts from the start of the pandemic. The absolute positivity that WDW would never close, the "science" from then to now, those who thought the fears about supply chain issues were overblown, etc. This may be the only forum I'm on that allowed a thread like this and didn't lock or delete it, and still has it running from day 1. I'm glad I came across this.

But then there is this!
To think or say the vaccine is the end all be all is not really accurate anymore. I am vaxxed but not boosted. My physician sees it as unnecessary in his words as of right now. Plus I have had covid twice before vaccines and once after and my body reacted the same all 3 times which was zero to no symptoms at all.

Treatment which includes Covid shot. A true vaccine would get us lower cases over time. This is not the case. also deaths are less due to many in the high risk already died unfortunately

That sounds so cold. We had 100 on Tuesday (no power) and 96 yesterday here.

did you actually read your own article? I am zero for zero with covid so far. We'll see if my spouse gives it to me or not. I'd actually thank my shots if they keep me from getting really sick especially since I haven't had a single covid shot in 11 months now.

1. Vaccines do not necessarily mean lower cases, especially when dealing with fast mutating respiratory viruses (see flu)
2. There are plenty of high risk people still alive and there is plenty of studies out there that show a significant decrease in morbidity and mortality when adjusted for age and risk factors. That’s why the vaccines are fully approved. Just google it it’s everywhere. Or just read the approval documents from the CDC.

Or not, what do I know, just have a few degrees in the field and do this everyday*

(MD, internal medicine, however I am not a researcher nor an Infectious Disease specialist)

What exactly is a "true vaccine", then?

As we've said over and over on this website, the COVID "shots" (as you call them) aren't a forcefield. They stimulate and select for a population of B and T cells that can respond to an infection once it arises. Against the original wild strain of COVID-19, they did quite a good job at stopping the replication of the virus before there were enough viral copies circulating to cause symptoms. But then, delta happened, and the viral replication process sped up exponentially. The "shots" still did exactly what they were designed to do, but now the virus was able to multiply and hence cause symptoms much faster. And then came omicron and sped up the process even more.

"also deaths are less due to many in the high risk already died unfortunately"

Absolute and total bunk. There are still 10s of millions of elderly and otherwise high risk people walking around alive and well today in the US alone. We're still presenting the virus with plenty of potentially easy targets, but thanks to vaccination and treatments, most of these people aren't getting severely ill in the first place.

There is not a single vaccine in existence that prevents all infection. The polio vaccine is probably the gold standard—around 99% efficacy. Measles is also great--96%.

I don’t expect everyone to be an expert. But if you aren’t one, trust the actual experts. If I need legal advice, I hire an attorney. I don’t ask friends on Facebook or my Disney bus driver, regardless of what he claims is previous career was.

Also, Fauci is an excellent scientist who sometimes exaggerates the truth on CNN to be more persuasive. I can’t blame him. Our booster uptake is pitiful. Sometimes I tell my kids little white lies to get them to do something that is in their best interest. If a person is as educated as Fauci, I grant them some latitude to be patronizing. After all, people demand to be told the science and then complain that a scientist is talking down to them. It’s almost as though science is complicated and difficult to understand.

Well he is the man who said this for all the world to hear so I can see the confusion many may have. Also many of us had our last high school biology class more than 35 years ago and I will be honest I am not sure we even touched on the topic of vaccines but I could be wrong or forgetful!

I don't recall high school biology nor do I base my view on vaccines off of one quote.

It has been explained many times in the last couple of years what vaccines do, and what they don't do.

I'd be pretty thrilled with a 99% or 96% Covid vaccine.

And an excellent scientist wouldn't exaggerage to manipulate public behavior. That tends to erode public trust, which is critical to have and maintain during a national health emergency.
