One thing to consider when travel does resume. WDW will be missing the 20% of international travel. However millions of Americans who would have been traveling internationally or on cruise ships will be forced to redirect their travel domestically.
We went to visit the shopping outlets malls on International Drive in Orlando. Every major high end brand one can think of is represented. The outlets were packed by a lot of International tourists speaking a number of languages. If this important group does not come back in numbers, Orlando will feel its effect.

So interesting fact about Florida testing backlog has come to light. While the daily report does include positive/negatives tests done in both public and private labs. The "Pending" category is only PUBLIC labs. In FL 10% of tests are run through public labs, the other 90% are done in private labs.

The Miami Herald discovered the discrepancy, asked the Florida Department of Health, who confirmed that the pending was only public labs. Then they asked South FL Hospital groups about their individual backlog. Two of the smaller ones responded, and just those 2 reported about 800 pending tests. The daily report shows about 1400 pending. With just those two groups, that's 57% more pending. So there are likely thousands of pending tests in actuality, across the state.

Makes the ground situation in FL more murky. That bend and peak people are looking for? There are still a bunch of delayed results, including positives, so everyone is going wait a little longer.

Was going to ask the same thing. I have never ever been bored on a cruise. Even with 2 or 3 sea days in a row. Usually don’t have enough time for things.

Most cruises usually have ports of call, with activities. On sea days, there are on board activities, such as wine/whiskey, etc tastings, lectures, classes - cooking, dancing, etc. And some people just enjoy relaxing with a good book, playing cards, working puzzles, etc. Sea days are also very popular spa days.

Even the smallest cruise ships have some sort of activity. if someone is only interested in rides, or being constantly entertained, cruises are probably not the best choice- although the super ships do have some of those things.

I prefer small (under 500 passengers) cruises myself.

I can completely agree. If you’re bored it’s on you. There’s always enough to do. For us we enjoy the quiet time on the verandah and relaxing as well as the activities or shows. Castaway Cay is phenomenal.

True. But those results are from before. I expect the numbers to go up since I’ve been hearing a lot on tv about more testing sites and more tests per day. It’s all relative. It’s going to peak when it peaks. A positive sign is that hospitalizations have declined in Orange County. Very good news.

I hate cruises, but that's because most of what they offer are things that do not interest me. I would rather spend my time elsewhere. That doesn't mean there's anything wrong with cruises though; people like different things.

The only ones that are even remotely interesting to me are the European river cruises, but even then I don't like the schedules. They often spend one day in a city I'd prefer to spend three days in, etc. I'm just not really built for an experience where I'm not in control of what I'm doing at any given time and I don't like just hanging out.

I also don't like going on vacation to the beach for the same reason, unless I'm going to be playing golf every day. Going to sit on the beach for hours at a time does nothing for me.

Travel agents will tell you (I was one once) a cruise is the hardest thing to sell, and the easiest thing to resell. Once people experience it, they generally want to do it again. (It's also cheaper than a normal vacation since meals, entertainment and lodging is all included).

I think the "I hate cruises" versus "Cruises are not boring" topic has been covered. Time to move on other to stuff that isn't political, the same old "we should have done more sooner vs we've done to much already", how difficult it is having to work/learn/teach from home, etc but will keep us entertained by sort of being about WDW and Covid-19.;)

Outlet malls are a scam.

Disney insurance paying for covid testing? The govt picks up the tab on that.

The government only picks up the tab for public lab (health dept). The private lab tests cost money. Some insurance companies have stated they will pay for any type of covid-related testing and care. Not sure where Disney insurance falls on that, other than the tests are guaranteed free.

Plus the usual headline 'RELAX - your on vacation'

The question was a loaded one :)

That's what is not clear. Tests are guaranteed free but Disney states they are covering the cost?. Doesn't make sense.

Interesting. Is there any reason to believe the infection rates are different in the pending tests? If not, then eventhough the raw totals would increase the overall trend wouldn't really change.

Sincere question - how is this post about being “bored” on a cruise ship any different than the posts (different thread) about whether or Orlando is “boring”? Those posts were deleted. Is it because a moderator has joined this conversation?
