Don't mean to be morbid, but if that many people so far have been infected (world wide?) I wonder how many have died from it then undetected as this virus? Do they do autopsies on everyone who dies?
You’re right. Possibly the deaths were written off to being the seasonal flu. In China many who had this virus also had the seasonal flu. I believe the estimate was just for the US.

Italy and Spain have already said they aren't testing people who died outside of a hospital setting. Too many bodies to deal with. We're going to end up relying on comparing this year's deaths vs. average deaths over the last couple of years for the same time period. So those "official" numbers we're all tracking, are going to be revised upwards at some point when all of this is done.

I don’t really know for sure. Just my guess. I’m assuming work is going on right now at the management level to come up with policies and procedures. I would think a few weeks at least for training. I am also assuming the rides are being maintained during the down time. If everything is left untouched it could take quite a while to ramp up rides and test everything. I assume that a Skelton crew is still working on maintenance and upkeep.
From my understand the rides are not being maintained- maintenance is gone my husband knows this for sure. Security is there but he knows the others are not.

People understand we don't have cures for viruses, right? We might have treatments that reduce symptoms...and we can develop vaccines to help reduce the number of people that get them (provided people will get the vaccines, because they're voluntary and administered when you're healthy - we're likely months away from the development of a vaccine)....but there's no cure out there. As there's no cure for the common cold, which is a virus. We're not waiting on a cure..we're waiting primarily on a vaccine. An antiviral medication is great, and can help a lot in limiting the severity...but it's not a panacea to a viral outbreak.
The way I understand it is that due to the differences between viruses the antivirals have to be designed pretty specifically for each one, or at least each group that are similar to each other. There will never be a broad antiviral like an antibiotic.

Yea apparently in Wuhan an estimated ~45k Urns are now being picked up since the lockdown is ending. Lines around the corner. That is a lot more than reported deaths. At least Italy is honest in their reporting that they don't know the true number.

On the other hand, other types of deaths are probably going to be lower. Car accident deaths, murders, etc. (Crime/fatalities are down in my city so far)

Thanks. I wasn’t sure either way. It will probably take a few weeks then at least to ramp everything up if it’s down a month or 2. It’s also possible that they don’t bring everything online on day 1. If the crowds aren’t there maybe some rides open later. Either way CMs would be in well before the parks open.

We had no new deaths today 🤔

I think it went from 56 to 60. Which is still lower for a daily number than it has been. In tracking the states I follow most, there is some lag between the local news sources reporting deaths vs. the correct number in the "official stats." So I am wondering how much paperwork gets filed on weekends, especially Sundays, and if we will see a bigger jump during the week as people catch up.

Yeah true I forgot it’s the weekend. I thought it was 59 last night and the model I see says 59 but I probably inverted the 6 in 56

I’m thinking CM will get back in toward beginning of May to begin taking deliveries, purchases, testing, etc.

What is the social distancing suggestion? 10 or 15?

I believe Florida updates twice a day. 11 am and 6 pm I think.

The CDC still doesn't update numbers on the weekends. I guess even a pandemic isn't enough to change stereotypes about federal government employees!

Regarding WDW, I think it is safe to assume that with President Trump extending the social distancing guidelines through the end of April that WDW will not possibly reopen before 5/1.

It’s 10, but as long as they can keep 6 feet apart for the most part it should be OK to have more workers. Problem would be areas where multiple workers can’t stay 6 feet apart like a kitchen or food service stand.

UK backed away from "herd immunity" when the PM realized no one had immunity to a new virus.
The Netherlands, meanwhile...

"Dutch GPs are phoning elderly and at-risk patients to check if they are willing to take the risk of dying at home in case they get Covid-19, so that their hospital bed can be taken up by someone with better survival chances, the Volkskrant newspaper reported."

In my UK emergency planning days, during the Avian Flu outbreak, the medical input was suggesting that, unless administered within 48 hours of mild symptoms showing, the antivirals they had at that time were ineffective.

Well they wouldn’t need to have those employees yet before guests except for the purchasers I’d think

True. I’d think they could start ramping up as early as May 1 for a June 1 opening. Really depends on if they are paying CMs anyway and if the state allows it by then. If they extend the date again and continue to pay CMs there’s no reason to not take their time ramping up and get a start early.

All, I really needed a GameStop today.

Never thought I would say that, but I did. Do not trust any and all Target employees on gaming advice for Nintendo Switch. Now I’m the proud owner of 2 gaming headsets as the first one wasn’t compatible, which I should have followed my gut and not trusted the employee. I went back to exchange one for another, but apparently Target is not taking exchanges or returns thru 4/16... so, I had to buy the 2nd one.

Now today my kid now has FB Messenger app for kids, and a mic for Fortnite. 2 things I have never allowed and said I would not allow for at least 2 more years... Coronavirus has made me lax on those rules a bit.

Yeah there will definitely have to be behind the scenes action before they open even if it’s a soft opening. Rehearsals, purchasing, etc.

We are hoping they’d have said ‘We are paying hourly employees until April 18th and after that we will no longer’... if they didn’t intend to for a little while longer. Like hopefully not waiting til the last min!

But I'm sure that you have a happy son, and from your postings, I am convinced that if your son is happy you are too.
