I do get the idea of taking control of one's health, but there is more to it than that. One of my good friends is now 1.5 years into it and still unable to run races like she used to. She may never be able to run like that again. My choir suffered losses and when we all were together for the first time singing a song that once was cantored verses by a person who passed away (older but not super old) we all couldn't help but break down and cry. I have a celebration of life to finally go to this summer for another who passed away December 2020. I dislike when people forget we're hurting.

There is a balance to be made for those who under and overreacted to this all. There was a lot of misinformation and a lot still being spread to this date. We are at a point where I do dislike mandates for all. I accept if things get really bad we'll adjust again. I'm just over how nasty people have gotten about it.
There is a balance with everything in life, every part of it whether its in decision making or whatever. The problem is both sides take their places, like the PoC ride in the first scene… fire back and forth across the water at each other never seeing or understanding how the heck the other side can think like they are. If you want to wear masks, go ahead if thats what you need to do for yourself and family.. if you dont want to wear them now that the mandates are gone mostly right now.. dont wear them.

You know what's funny?
No.

That was me, posting that due to the elimination of the inflight mask requirement, my travel options are now limited to road trips.

We've already booked a weekend at WDW next month, since that's a 4 hour drive; and are working on a few other road trips for later in the summer.
Unless someone in your family is immunocompromised (as this point would change things for sure), I am having a hard time understanding how you could reach the conclusion that driving is safer for your family's health than flying even without the mask mandate in place. Statistically, that just isn't accurate with or without COVID. Having people in your family that have taken ill due to COVID but no one has died in a car accident doesn't mean anything. People aren't typically genetically predisposed to car accidents. How much of an increase in risk do you think dropping the mask mandate on a plan really gave us, when masks are still optional? And then to end up in places where there are people anyways? Your choice, your family, but it is not adding up to me...

When you live in Florida, you don't necessarily go on rides - you just go and enjoy them like if they were normal parks. Hell, when I lived in Orlando, I'd go to Epcot for lunch and head back home.

Right now, our plan is to go to Epcot to eat and drink one day, and AK to enjoy the animals and views the next. That's it. I have no desire to wait with my easily ****ed-off baby in a queue and have him go nuclear.

We enjoy Eatcot a whole bunch :)

I’m saying I don’t wear a mask because I don’t leave my house when I’m sick.

Minor misunderstanding.

Unfortunately not everyone operates in good faith, or has the option to stay home when sick.

And no, I don't wear my mask at home ever, unless there's people I don't know/trust doing work in my house.

I'm all for thoroughly cleaning hotel rooms which I had hoped was happening anyway 🤣😬
I support access to sanitizer and automatic sinks are a modern miracle. I love that most Disney bathrooms have open main entrance doors.
I never understood the ride cleaning. Anyone with germ concerns can more easily sanitize their hands after riding. There's only so much that makes sense at a busy theme park. The fact that most people still survive their Disney vacation sans sickness is pretty significant.

When I see back and forth like this I always remember how worried I was going back to work, the idea of being around thousands of people a day was terrifying after a year of sitting at home isolated, now, after a year of being back to “my normal”, I honestly forget Covid exists 99.9% of the time.

Most people didn’t have a choice, we were forced into confronting the reality of Covid when we went back to work, those who still work from home or are retired may never have to face Covid as we did but I think most will get there eventually anyway, in their own time. They are confronting it at a different time than we did but it’s just as terrifying.

If it weren’t for a friend who is still battling long Covid, she’s going on 4 months, and this forum I think I’d forget Covid even exists. Even interacting with people who choose to still wear masks doesn’t really make me think of Covid anymore, it’s just become the new normal.

I don't get all the jubilant (and to my mind premature) "COVID's over, time to move on" from posters who have already made amply clear that they returned to pre-pandemic behaviours months ago.
are you sure you don't get it? because I bet you actually do understand.
public transportation(which many mask opposers use) was more or less the last holdout which adversely affected those of us who found the regulation arbitrary and unneeded.

Automatic sinks actually are not good. I like to wash my hands with soap and warm water to get rid of more bacteria. Good luck trying to find sinks with that.

Or maybe it's you who doesn't understand how this is for many people. We had the extreme anti-maskers who were downright rude about it all the way to the other extreme where we had total fearful people. Most fell between. There is a period of adjustment even if you aren't fond of masks for both. I think you know this though....

Bathroom doors that push out are nice too. People are gross, and I don't want to touch their door handles lol

Most I find have warm water, but warm water isn't what really matters anyway

US covid hospitalizations still hovering just above 10k even with the small bump in cases that we have seen in certain areas spread over the last month or so due to BA.2. So not really declining as it once was...but flat. Good news IMO.

If it weren’t for a friend who is still battling long Covid, she’s going on 4 months, and this forum I think I’d forget Covid even exists.

Has anyone seen any tracking on impacts besides death and hospitalizations?

I mean, it's super great that both of those are down. At least for the people able to vaccinate successfully. But, there's still a huge spectrum between "sick for a few days" and "hospitalization" with "some level of lingering impacts continuing after 4 months" somewhere on that graph. It would be nice to know how vaccination and other treatments are impacting those other impacts.

I feel like we've anecdotally heard that either variation or vaccination reduced the occurrence of loss of smell/taste. It would be nice to know how the other impacts are being impacted too.

It's not like we talk about park crowds with just the measure of either you get into the park or you're turned away. We discuss the impacts along the way to the waits for different rides.
